Hotaru is the daughter of Dr. Souichi (sp?) Tomoe. Her mom is dead. She and her dad "miraculously" survived a fire. Actually, her dad made a deal almost literally with the devil. So, her dad's possesed completely, and poor Hotaru-chan is too, but she doesn't know it.
So, the *cough*evil*cough* outer scouts are against her, because the Soverign (Messiah in Japan, but I don't like that) of Silence is in her. They also dislike Saturn. *********.
(Clarification: Why do I seem to hate Uranus and Neptune? 'Cause I do. They refuse to believe that Hotaru isn't evil, that the girl can be seperated from the demon. They are of the assumption that darkness and death are inexorably evil. Also, they're both da*ned annoying. And jerks. I'll probably go into all this and more in their profile.)
Hotaru turns out to be Sailor Saturn, scout of death and rebirth--and light and darkness, in my opinion. She dies to save the world at the end of Sailormoon S, and is reborn.
In the manga, Hotaru always wore long black stuff because she was burned in the fire. Also, her dad gave her a talisman to help her when she had an "attack". She's also attracted to Rini's Silver Crystal.
Rini is Hotaru's best friend. Hotaru finds friends hard to come by because of her mysterious power to heal, a shyness, and her "attacks", which make her lash out at people, hurting things and not remembering it, though she knows she must have.
Hotaru is one of the best characters ever, according to me. She's both light and dark, struggling with both. She has this shadowy innocence and darkened maturity, and an unstated dignity...I just love Hotaru-hime, and no one will ever convince me she's evil.
