why?

c'mon! just LOOK at her! gorgeous... graceful.. artistic... hangs around with a cutie like haruka... how could i resist? ^^;; everything about michiru i absolutely love. she's one of my all-time favorite sailor moon characters (right after mnemosyne, naturally ^.~) and i really like the design of her seifuku. i've also seen the design of her seifuku slightly "misinterperted" a lot, and i wanted to set the record straight. ^^;; so when i had a bunch of extra material laying around that just so happened to match her jacket, along with a couple of spare hours, i started up on this project.
how?

i was too impatient to wait for the chance to get a jacket pattern and too lazy to totally alter it, so i grabbed a bunch of tissue paper, taped it to my body, and made appropriate cuts on it. ^^;; i then enlarged the pattern pieces because tissue paper falls differently than fabric and it's a lot easier to cut off fabric than add on. ^^;; for the sleeves however, i altered an exsisting pattern i had. the collar was accomplished by measuring how far down my back i wanted it to go along with how wide and then i traced the edges of the jacket on to it. the facing was made by once again tracing edges of the jacket and the strip of plaid was sewn on to the bottom. for the cuffs i measured how wide they needed to be to fit my hand through and then simply sewed them on the ends of the sleeves, making a few tucks to fit. the skirt was made from simplicity pattern 7524 and shortened slightly to match michiru's. the undershirt was a short of "dickie" upon which i drew a star with a black sharpie.
thoughts

my biggest disappointment in this costume is the fact that i settled for wal-mart's red, green, and blue plaid fabric when down the street at hobby lobby they had green and blue plaid fabric. >.< grr. that, and i don't like how the skirt has no swish. ~.~ but i am proud of the jacket. for having no pattern i think i did pretty well, and it was a good learning process as well. i still need to find a decent wig for it though. if anyone knows of some good onling wig shops tell me! i wore this school one day 1. because i felt bad that it had done nothing but sit in my closet for months and 2. i had nothing else to wear! ^^; a lot of friends thought i looked pretty cute and most caught on to the whole "schoolgirl" look. i think it weirded out some people in my classes, as the previous day i had come to school in full goth ensemble and then i showed up in *this*. *l* but it was by wearing this costume that i realized that cosplay has been permenently imbedded into my dna. everytime someone complimented me, i would thank them and strike a pose. O.o
