why?

i saw pictures of rei on the web for many years, and even before i knew anything about her, she had this elusive "aura" about her that really intrigued me. after i became a big fan of evangelion, i only liked rei all the more. so when my boss informed me that i needed to dress up for work on halloween i decided on rei almost instantly.
how?

i had a night to throw this costume together. since my horrible sailor uranus costume from last halloween was still hanging in the back of my closet, i opted to make some good memories out of some bad ones. i had a navy blue, pleated, school uniform skirt which my mother ordered from j.c. penny's catalogue. i also had a bunch of matching material which i had used to make the back bow. from the old bow material, i fashioned two straps and attached them to the skirt. i got really frustrated when i was trying to sew them to the back of the skirt (it was elastic-ized) so my dad did that part for me. i already owned the white shirt and i borrowed the ribbon from my sister. i wore my converse and a pair of knee-high black ski-socks, which stay up really well. the wig i got at a place called spencer's boutique. for work, i wore bandages and an arm sling, but they were so cumbersome that i didn't bother for ndk or at school.
thoughts

in my arm sling, i carried a picture of rei because i guessed that few of our customers would know who i was. (most of them attended the near-by catholic church... anime and catholics? yeah, right.) but i got attention which i liked, considering it was my first real cosplay experience. i got a lot of good reception at NDK (especially from tristen mcavery! ^.^) and i was really surprised at how well-received i was when i wore it to school. (my school is very anti-weirdness. >.<) however, i wasn't impressed with my total lack of accuracy, so i disassembled this costume (got my skirt back!) and i plan to make a new, much more accurate one sometime in the future.
