**NOTE** The following character descriptions may contain spoilers that will tell the outcome of the story.

Hikaru Shidou ~ Hikaru is the oldest out
of the magic knights, but as all fans should know, the shortest one. ( Is'nt
that ironic?) She uses fire based magic. Hikaru awakens Rayearth, the red
mashin. Later on, after Princess Emeurade dies, Hikaru becomes the new
pillar of Cephiro.
Umi Ryuzaki ~ Umi is a somewhat weathy girl
that appears to be spoiled, but actually is very caring. She also tends to be
disagreeable at times and argues a lot. Umi's "mortal enemy" is Mokona. Umi uses
water based magic. Umi awakens Celes, the blue Mashin.
Fuu Houoji ~ Fuu is a kind-hearted,
ever-cheerful person. She can detect what other people are thinking with
some skill. She also has a crush on Ferio. Fuu uses wind based magic.Fuu awakens
Winddom, the green mashin.
Mokona ~ Mokona is a
marshmellow thingy (?) as you can see... Some powers that it posseses include
storing things inside the red gem on its forehead. It also helps the magic
knights in time of need.As the story progresses, Mokona is revealed as the
creator of Cephiro as well as Earth. And decides who is going to be the next
pillar of Cephiro.
Rayearth ~ The picture above is Rayearth taking on its red (wolf?) form. Some people say that Rayearth is supposed to be a lion, but I seriously don't think that that is a lion...Rayearth controls the power of fire. Oh well, I could be wrong... It is awakened at the temple of fire by Hikaru and changes into mashin form (below) to help Hikaru fight.
Celes ~ The picture above is Celes taking on its water dragon form. Celes controls the power of water. Celes was first awakened by Umi in the temple of the sea and transformes into mashin form to help Umi fight.
Winddom ~ The picture above is Winddom taking on its green pheonix form. Winddom controls the power of the Wind. Winddom was first awakened by Fuu in the temple of the wind and transformes into mashin form (below) to help Fuu fight.
Rayearth Combined Mashin Form ~
Appears in the final episodes of the thrid season. Combined Rayearth is
basically Winddom, Celes, and Rayearth combined into one "super
mashin."
Clef ~ Clef is a guru that is responsible for
teaching magic to those that are qualified as well as teaching them how to use
it. He promised Princess Emeraude that he would guild the legendary magic
knights. Although Clef looks like a little kid, he is actually 745. (Talk about
old...)
