In a small cafe hidden of the beaten track sat a young woman, she was waiting for someone, waiting for something. She had been sitting in the same spot all day ordering a cappuccino whenever hers happened to run out. It would take more than an hour for her to need the next cup, her total being six, the caffeine seemingly not affecting her. She was in the uniform of a Preventer, wrinkled and tired, her eyes sporting a whole set of luggage beneath them. She had been this way since the world trade center had been bombed by terrorists now three days later she was waiting for something. Many people had been killed in the blast, and many injured, among the dead were the last remaining members of the Peacecraft family if you didn’t count the children they left behind.
The young Relena Peacecraft had left behind her husband and newborn child when the blast struck she had been at the heart, clearly the target of the terrorists. Heero was taking the whole affair rather well with all things considered; he was completely devoted to his son now, never straying far from the infant’s side. The entire world mourned the younger Peacecrafts passing, but the elder Peacecraft, Milliardo Peacecraft his demise was being met with mixed reactions. The people were still wary of him after the whole ordeal with White Fang, others still believed in him; the world was split between indifference and grief about his passing. The young woman was inconsolable, her comrades had tried to console her, help her through the grief but they were unable to do a thing, at the moment, they watched over her son and daughter, Milliardo’s children though they did not bear his name. She had been his lover and his love; they had planned to get married once they had a spare moment, wanting their children to grow up with married parents.
Now she didn’t know what to do with her life, she knew she couldn’t end it because of her children but how could she find the strength to continue. Things had changed in that instant when the bomb had gone off, the Preventers had immediately moved into action, the terrorists had been rounded up within 28 hours of the blast. Instead of feeling comforted by the fact that the bastards who had ruined her life where now behind bars she had gone to pieces with nothing for her to do other than care for her children which she had left in the care of Sally Po.
She had run out of the building that morning with tears streaming down her face, she knew crying didn’t help but everything had gone wrong. Her worst nightmares had come true. She remembered the first time Zechs was believed to be dead, she hadn’t cried once, she had known that he would find a way back to her but now she had seen his mangled body, she had seen his lifeless corpse covering his sisters equally lifeless body. Just seeing that he had gone down a hero, true to his nature had not only warmed her heart but it had broken it as well. If he had tried to save his own skin then maybe he would still be here today, but no, he had to try to save Relena. She had survived the blast, her brother’s body successfully shielding her from the worst of the blast but she hadn’t gotten to the hospital in time she had died in transit the shock of the whole ordeal being too much for her.
The funerals were to be held in a few days how she would survive until then and then afterwards she didn’t know. She was still sitting in the same café hours later when her closest friend Sally Po came to find her, taking in the grieved form hunching over her cup of cappuccino. Noin’s eyes were vacant, her skin pale, the uniform she wore wrinkled from overuse. The children, Damien and Thalia were with the Gundam pilots, under Heero’s capable care. Sally was there to offer her support to the broken hearted Preventer, and her closest friend. If this continued then Noin would destroy herself, and her children would be left as orphans to the world. The Chinese woman went over to the hunched figure laying a hand on her shoulder, silently giving her support.
"Why did he have to be in that blast?"
"I don’t know."
"…I miss him…"
"I know you do but Noin think of your children, think of him, would he want you to be so sad."
"No, but I can’t help it. HE’S DEAD, HE LEFT ME WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO!" Noin screamed at her dear friend, finally letting the grief, which had overwhelmed her out, tears running rapidly down her face.
"He left you yes, but it wasn’t his choice, now you are meant to look after those children, they need a mother right now," Sally replied calmly her tone never wavering, her eyes showing their grief at the loss which had occurred bear days before.
"I know I know, but I just miss him so much," Noin managed to choke out as she took solace in her best friends presence.
"Time eases all wounds Noin, but you know better than I do you will never forget him, the best you can do is try to live your life the best you can." She said again while taking Noin into a reassuring hug, her voice cracking with each word. The two remained there taking comfort from each other under the watchful eyes of two loving souls, Milliardo and Relena Peacecraft.
"Brother do you think she will be alright?"
"Yes, Relena I do, she is strong she will survive she had Sally there for her and the children, it’ll only take time. What do you think about Heero?"
"He’ll live, he will devote his life to Odin though, but he will survive, he will show him love. He has the pilots like Noin has her friends, I only wish that I hadn’t been forced to leave him, he gets lonely."
"As does Noin, but other things where planned for us, Relena, other things. In time we will see them again, but for now we have to be content with these snatches of their lives we can watch."
"I know," said the ghostly figure of Relena Peacecraft, her heart going out to those she had left behind as she and her brother slowly disappeared from the living world, ready to take on their new tasks in death. Before Milliardo completely vanished from the world, he placed a phantom kiss on his loves cheek and wiped away her tears with his thumb, whispering his eternal love in her ear.
Relena and Milliardo were to be peacekeepers once again, but in a different time and place their duty forever remaining the same only the people they owed their loyalty changing. Years passed and time flew Heero and Noin continued with their lives raising their children. The children grew; they graduated from school, acquired successful jobs and mourned for their parents when the time came for Heero to pass on and then Noin. Heero and Noin were met at the pearly gates by two angels both sporting the white wings and golden halos, one angel was Relena who carried Heero off to her home the other was Milliardo who carried Noin off to his home. They caught up on what had passed and they waited for their children to join them forever happy, and residing in eternal paradise.
