The Ghost of You and Me
"I didn't mean to fall in love with you,
And baby there's a name for what you put me through."
"Zechs I miss you, why did you have to leave me?" cried Lucrezia Noin into the dusk filled air. The war was over and Zechs still hadn't returned like he said he would. It was a year later. Noin finally let her tears come.
"I'm sleeping with the ghost of you and me."
Noin fell to her pillow sobbing for she now understood that she would never see Zechs again. "Surely if he was alive, he would have come back by now."
"The ghost of you and me,
When will it set me free?
I hear the voices call, following footsteps down the hall.
Trying to say what's left in my heart and soul."
At times though, Noin could almost picture him standing there. His long hair billowing around him. She could sometimes feel his touch. So soft and gentle, it was hardly there. "It never is there," she sobbed quietly. She missed his touch more than she thought she ever would of.
She slowly cried herself to sleep. When she awoke the sun was in the sky and people were doing their everyday chores. She walked to the sink and wiped the salty remains of her tears off her face. She looked at the time on her alarm clock. It was 8:00 a.m.
She felt like she hadn't slept in days and the emptiness that had been there since Zechs had disappeared still weighed heavily on her.
"Zechs why do you insist upon haunting me so," she sighed to herself.
"I guess since I couldn't bear having you forget me," said a voice from behind her. She turned around, prepared to defend herself. But the action was unneeded.
There stood Zechs, his silver hair shining in the early morning sun. The sun was making radiance around him and with sudden fear Noin whispered, "are you an angel?" The shimmering apparition laughed a big throaty laugh and walked towards her.
"No, I have finally come back to you," said Zechs.
"How do I know you haven't just grown tired of some other woman and figured Noin has always been faithful to me, lets go take advantage of her?" asked Noin suspiciously. Zechs looked hurt and stepped back.
"Lucrezia, believe me, I never wanted to be away from you so long." He looked so sincere that she almost forgave him.
"Why didn't you come back sooner, I missed you Zechs, I thought you were dead and it hurt me real bad."
"I had to make sure peace was attained before I would show that I was alive still."
"But you could have let me know you were alive!" She was angry with him for keeping her in suspense and denial.
"I'm sorry, I just thought it was better that way." He desperately wanted her forgiveness but was actually afraid to face her after the battle in space.
"I don't know if I can accept that."
"I am not asking you to, I just want you to take me back. I love you more than life itself!"
"I love you to but I don't know if I can trust you now." Tears formed into her eyes as she said this. It was hard to take the fact that the man she loved had lied to her.
"I will kill myself if I ever betray your trust again. Please don't make me be alone anymore."
"I don't want to be alone either." With those words out of her lips Zechs reached over and replaced them with a gentle kiss.
"I love you, don't ever leave me." Tears rolled down his cheek and mixed with hers.
"I love you too, never let go."
The ghosts disappeared and they were left with each other, betrayal and mistrust leaving with them into the morning rays.
