Everything is gonna be
Everything is alright
Zechs sighed once more, this one, of grief. It hurts him to know that he had destroyed his family’s trust. He was not worthy anymore of the throne. He wasn’t fit to be a Peacecraft anymore. He was...
Zechs gritted his teeth and clenched his fist.
He was no more than Zechs Merquise, the man behind the silver mask.
A soldier.
A murderer.
Zechs closed his eyes. He does not want to see more of what he was. It hurts him much to know that he had failed him, but it hurts much more to see what he had become.
He hated himself.
Yes he hated himself. And they think he’s enjoying his high ranks, his scores? Those were just numbers. Just reminders that he was superior. Did he ever think so highly of himself like the others had? No. He hated it.
He hated his damn life.
Everything is gonna be
Everything is alright
Noin clicked her tongue against the back of teeth, making a ‘tsk’ sound, in annoyance. Why had she ever bothered thinking about her past in the first place? She never really made it a point to forget...but she just wanted to think of other things...she had been too hurt.
As she brought the mug to her lips and sipped her tea, she began thinking, ‘Will father still be proud of me? The little Lucrezia he used to teach how to fence, and accompany in riding her white horse in their ranch? The little girl he used to tell stories of wars and peace to?’
She sighed as she put down her mug. She needed someone to talk to. And she was glad Zechs was back at the Academy, so at least she has someone to talk her grief over with. She was never close to anyone in Victoria, even her colleagues. She never felt comfortable around them. They were too intimidating to be with, not that she couldn’t top all of them with her superb intelligence and skills...It’s just that...
She couldn’t relate to them. And nobody understood her well. They saw her as this wonderful, young cadet instructor, and an official of Oz...A proud and arrogant young woman whose scores rank second to Zechs’ in the history of Lake Victoria Academy.
“They are all fools,” she muttered out loud. ‘Can’t they see that I have my own flaws too?’ She admits it she’s not perfect. ‘Nobody’s perfect, dammit!’ she reminded herself.
She had her own insecurities. Fears.
But she couldn’t let them see that side of her because she doesn’t want to appear weak. She does not want to lose. And because they expect so much from her, she couldn’t fail.
Noin looked down at her mug. She really needed someone to talk to.
Is alright
Is alright
Noin pulled on a simple white blouse and a pair of cargo jeans and headed towards Zechs’ quarters. She bet he was feeling lonely like she was. She always seemed to know what is going on in his mind.
Somehow, she and Zechs had always understood each other. They can relate. And the time that they are together is the only moment they could really be themselves. Pour out all the hurting feelings with them.
She stopped when she was at his door, sighing, she knocked on his door once, and said, “Zechs, its me, Noin.”
No response.
Noin twisted the knob and realized it was unlocked so he couldn’t be sleeping or anything. She opened the door and peeped in. The only thing that lit the room was the lamp on the side table of the small living room. She saw him, even through his shadow, seated near the window.
“Zechs?” she called again. Maybe he fell asleep already.
She was about to close the door and leave when she heard him mutter something, “Noin?” he asked, feeling her presence in his room.
The little things we hide
The little inside
I don’t want to show them that we’ll be alright
“Yeah, it’s me.” She answered, closing the door behind her. “I’m sorry. Were you resting or anything? I could come back ---”
Zechs sighed. “No, Noin. It’s okay. I can’t sleep, anyway.”
Noin proceeded to sit beside him and raise her legs up on the sofa, holding them close to her chest. Zechs noted the expression on her face, saying, “What seems to be bothering you, Captain?”
Noin frowned, looked at him and shrugged, “Nothing...Uh,” she paused then looked away. Now, how the hell was she supposed to tell him? This was the most difficult part. She does not know what words to use and how to act so as not to appear inferior infront of him. And damn! Why did he have to call her that?
‘But, heck! He’s your best friend!’ she reminded herself.
“It’s just that...”
The little things we hide
The little things inside
I don’t want to show them that I’ll be alright
Oh, oh...
She looked up again at Zechs, softly saying, “I miss my life...”
Zechs smiled softly and peered into her eyes, “I miss mine, too.” He said, leaning close so his forehead is pressed against hers.
“Were you thinking about that, too?”
Zechs pulled away from her and stared up at the stars. He nodded.
“It’s your father again, isn’t it?”
“Yes.”
Noin took a deep breath. That had always seemed to be Zechs’ problem. Living everyday, knowing what he had done is against everything his family had lived and died for...
There was silence between them.
They were so alike.
“Zechs?”
“Hmm?”
Noin shifted to face him better, took his face in her hand and said, “If there was one thing that Life and the war had taught me, it was to believe and never give up no matter how hard living everyday of your life is.” She paused, then rested her head against his shoulder, “We could surpass these things if only we have faith, and the will to do so.”
“Noin...”
Noin smiled faintly as she felt Zechs’ arms draw her closer to him, holding her captive in his arms, murmuring, “I know what you mean, Noin. These are just little things.”
Noin nodded.
“Everything is gonna be alright in the end.”
“That’s the spirit, Lieutenant.” Noin replied softly with a grin.
Zechs chuckled softly, raising his hand to her head and ruffling her hair. “Damn,” he mumbled, “What did you really come here for?” he asked, teasing her.
Noin laughed softly, pushing him playfully and then resting her head once more on his shoulder. “I just want someone to talk to, Zechs. To be with you.”
Zechs nodded as he watched her sigh and close her eyes, cuddle against him... “Zechs,” she murmured.
“You can spend the night here with me if you want to. I could use some company.” He said.
Zechs looked down and saw her smiling back at him.
“Thank you,” she murmured.
He smiled softly, and gave her a feather-light kiss on her forehead. He shifted on the couch and scooped her in his arms, making her giggle, and carried her towards his room.
“Let’s have a good night sleep, shall we, Lucrezia?”
“No doubt we’d have, sir.”
