:: Find me here ::
A dark living room, lit only by the flickering from a the dying fireplace. The coals cast indefinate shadows over the furniture and shag rugs, like ships on a misty bay.
:: Speak to me ::
One shadow stirs uncomfortably on the rug in
front of the fireplace.
:: I want to feel you ::
The distraught Zechs pulls himself off the rug and surveys the darkened room with acute emerald eyes.
:: I need to hear you ::
He weaves his familiar way past silhouettes of furniture.
:: You are the light that is leading me ::
He stops and sits, wets his paw, and runs in through his bright white mane.
:: To the place where I find peace again ::
He hops up on the piano bench and from there, onto the windowsill. Gazing up at the full moon, he takes a lucrative sigh out of the air, his breath fogging the tiniest part of the glass.
:: You are the hope that keeps me trusting ::
Betrayed by that moon’s feral light, Noin prowls through the dark house, her head down and her whiskers twitching.
:: You are the life to my soul ::
She suffers from the same malaise Zechs has, dropping herself forlornly onto a cushion sticking with ashen-violet fur.
:: You are my purpose you are my everything ::
Still scared and fragile, she eyes the slinking shadows with darting distaste.
:: And how could I stand here with you ::
The shadows melt together again, and Zechs hops down from the windowsill, his paws hitting the floor with such light precision that they barely cause a gasp of startled wind.
:: And not be moved by you ::
He is glad to leave the living room, going instead to the cold linoleum of the home’s kitchen.
:: Would you tell me it could be ::
Beside the towering refrigerator, a few plastic dishes sat safe from the pearl door’s arc.
:: Any better than this ::
The one marked Zechs in big block letters is full, as he never touched his food.
:: You calm the storm you give me rest ::
The second, empty one is marked Noin. She forgot to take it with her when she left.
:: You hold me in your hands ::
Zechs walks to the communal water bowl and looks at his reflection.
:: You won’t let me fall ::
Noin sees Zechs’ reflection in her replacement, ceramic water dish, and backs away in surprise.
:: You still my heart ::
She looks at the glistening pool again, disappointed to see her own face looking back at her.
:: You take my breath away ::
Not bothering to drink, she jumps up on the kitchen counter.
:: Would you take me in ::
She sits between the sink and the dirty blender jar, looking out at the moon through a child’s dreamcatcher.
:: Would you take me deeper now ::
The moonlight’s silken streaming beams make her deep eyes shine, but they soon take on a glitter from within.
:: ‘Cause you’re all I want ::
Blessed by the moon goddess, the two were freed outside, charging for one another across an endless field.
:: You are all I need ::
They met and clashed, laughing as only cats can as they tumbled in an ecstatic ball of fur, paws and rolling grass.
:: You are everything ::
Together again, they grin as they pause from their wrestling to catch their breath.
:: Everything ::
On the grass, panting, they lock their eyes and just look into one another, silent under the moon.
:: How am I to stand here with you ::
The mutual dream ends, and Noin jumps down from the counter. She takes an indulgent drink of her chilly water and leaves the kitchen satisfied.
:: And not be moved by you ::
She lies down on her cushion, smiling underneath her bangs as she lets herself slip off into bliss.
:: Would you tell me how it could be ::
Zechs breaks his gaze from the blue-white disk past the glass, retreating back to his shaggy mat.
:: Any better than this ::
He plops down in front of the last moments of the coals, smirking as his consciousness faded along with the light.
:: ‘Cause you’ re all I want ::
:: You are all I need ::
:: You are everything ::
:: Everything ::
