kunzite is a very brittle gemstone that is highly prized in many cultures. when struck at a certain point it will splinter
in two. the stone is transparent and light pink in colour. if exposed to the sunlight it will fade (when you think about it, you
never really see him out in the sun, he's either in the shade or it's overcast. This would also explain his white hair)
malachite is soluble in dilute acids and is bright to dark green in colour. malachite is often polished and used as jewelry
and is believed to have magical powers.
powers
aside from floating (which can be very useful when attacking) and other abnormal things the other kings's do, kunzite had
his own style of powers that were centered around raw energy. i also noticed that although he could easily generate a power on
his own, he teneded to steal/absorb energy from others, and then use it against his enemies rather than use his own.
- when he teleports he's surrounded by a blue flame
- voice/image projection
- create a black energy dome (dark energy electrify)
- cause the energy dome to shrink (dark energy shink to bit)
- create small, red, exploding spheres that release gas
- can drain the city of it's power
- can create a spinnig force field that absorbes the energy of an attack
- can throw a miniture version of the force field at an opponent
- can create a transparent force field around himself
- dark energy ring attack that absorbs loose energy
- can create a blast of pure dark energy
- create two pink boomerangs
the tale
kunzite was the last of the four shitennou. he was the most wise and powerful of them all, never allowing his personal feelings
to get in the way of his work. out of all his predecessors, he was the most calm and was incredibly shrewd and cunning, and
unfortunately for the senshi he had the power to to back up his plans. at first, his mission was to assist zoisite in retreving the
remaining nijizuisho. after zoisite perrished he was placed in charge of trainig evil prince endymion and retrieving the
ginzuisho (he usually tried to kill sailor moon instead). kunzite despised prince endyminion because of what he remined
kunzite of, and was very bitter and rude towards him. kunzite threatend endymion numerous time, saying once beryl lost
her favour towards him he would be a dead man. some of kunzite's youma actually found out the identity of the senshi, but
were killed before they could report back to kunzite or queen beryl.
the one weakness
kunzite first appears in the episode where kephrite took upon the task to search for the ginzuisho. he only appears as a
shadowy figure, comforting the torn zoisite and offering him advice. his character isn't developed a whole lot, but from his
actions we can deduce that he is a very powerful king, never allowing his personal feelings to alter his work. until zoisite
was killed, and even afterward he was a very impassive, calm and even cold individual. zoisite was clearly the more
affectionate of the two, which makes you wonder how serious he was in the relationship, that is, he didn't realize how much
zoisite meant to him until he was killed. after which, you could slowly see in his plans, as the season began to wrap up, that
his once devious intelligence was not a large factor anyomre. in other words, he was faultering. he had lost numerous youma
and chances at sailor moon and the ginzuisho due to the interfearence of endymion, which, under normal circumstances he
could have handled. he was also losing the favor of his queen which did not help his fragile mental state. well, i guess what
i'm trying to say, (which i could have summed up in one sentance) is that zoisite was kunzite's one weakness. he probably
never realized it until it was too late - that he was almost as dependant on zoisite as zoisite was on kunzite.
in the end ...
kunzite was killed in an arctic cave, in a face off with the senshi. after he defeated the four inner senshi, only he and sailor
moon were left, and she was using the power of the ginzuisho (i'd like to point out that not even the power of the ginzuisho
could destroy him) kunzite summoned a rather large pink boomerang and sent it at sailor moon, but by pure luck she
deflected it back at him, where it hit him square in the chest. as i mentioned before, not even the power of five senshi and the
ginzuisho could destroy him - only something of his own creation. this also created a rather large debate about wheather it was
suicide when he stood in the path of his own weapon (well, not deliberately at least). he wrapped his cape around himself and
stood his ground when he could have easily teleported away to safety. it would surpirse me very little if it was suicide, the
poor guy had noting to live for. as he died he called out to zoisite teller him that he was going to join him soon (In both versions
i believe).
in my humble opinion
he is easily my favorite character out of the series. he's powerful, well thought out, and executes his plans perfectly. it wasn't
until zoisite died that his plans started falling through on him (that, and endymion kept scrwing him over) though kunzite always
put up the front of being a calm, collected individual, i think he was emotionally weaker than even zoisite. and we learnt that
rather sadly after he was killed. kunzite never had any catch phrases or powers that made him unique like zoisite or nephrite,
but i think the fact that he was the most powerful - even more so than empress metalia has to count for something.
