"Perhaps it is the doing of the Virus."
"Nonsense. There are legends about the Trio being aided by... things such as this."
"Bah. Your talk of legends is ludicrous. Legends are myths, myths are fairy tales told to Hatchlings at bedtime. Some people just have the guts to try to make them happen."
"So you believe Silphymon's claim about it being the product of the Virus?"
Arguing voices were the first things that Yoshimitsu could sense. He forced his oddly heavy eyelids open, and the voices fell momentarily silent.
"It's awake," whispered the second voice.
"I'm not an 'it'," 'Mitsu replied instinctively. "I'm a guy." He turned his head to the side -- and stared.
Three... things stood in a semi-circle. One was humanoid, but its torso appeared to be covered in white feathers and its legs reminded 'Mitsu of a hawk's. Another looked like a tall yellow fox with intelligent blue eyes. The third stood with its back to the door, and looked like a blue-striped white wolf decided that it was going to be human; it stood upright and wore pants torn at the knees and forelegs -- arms? -- crossed.
"It speaks!" remarked the striped wolf.
"He speaks," corrected the yellow fox, smirking.
"Perhaps we can get some answers from it -- him," the humanoid commented, stepping forward with one hand outstretched, palm up. "So your gender is male?"
"Duh." 'Mitsu sat up and swung his legs over the bed he had been laying on.
"What are you? How did you get here? Why are you here?" the humanoid continued, and 'Mitsu suddenly realized what was odd about its voice -- it was both feminine and masculine, like it was combined of both a girl and a guy.
"I'm human." 'Mitsu shrugged. "And I was hoping that you guys knew the answers to the second questions."
The humanoid's hand dropped to its side, and it frowned.
"Do you have a name we can call you by, human?" asked the fox, peering at him calmly.
"Yoshimitsu Abukara. Er -- 'Mitsu."
"He's definately not Digimon," the wolf grunted. "What in Nefertimon's name is going on?"
'Mitsu blinked, and could only come to one conclusion.
It was time to get some answers.
"Okay. Where am I? Who are all you? What's 'Digimon' and 'Nefertimon'? How in the world'm I s'pposed to get home?!"
Hunter woke up in the middle of the forest all grumpy. Oh damn it, he thought. Where the hell am I?
"And what the hell is this?" he asked, picking up the digivice.
"Not very nice aren't we," the voice said.
Hunter rolled his eyes and tried to ignore the voice. He won't admit that it creeped him out.
"That's none of ya business," Hunter said, annoyed. "What do you want with me?"
Riley woke up near the ocean.
"What in the world is going on here?" she asked herself. "This doesn't look like Ireland to me."
She manage to ignore what was going on and dusted herself off before beginning her walk.
Blair looked up into the sky before she noticed that she was on a canyon. Ok this wasn't the type of landscape she wasn't used to be on.
"Mom, Taylor." she said. "Where am I?"
Blair needed to walk and soon.
Hatsue woke up on the beach all upset at what happened. This doesn't look like Osaka to me at all. She decided to ignore it by cleaning herself off including dusting the sand off her plaid skirt and her hair.
"What am I supposed to do with this?" she asked herself.
She sees another girl here with long black hair and blue-gray eyes. Oh joy. she thought sarcastically as she approached the girl as apposed to herself with short blonde hair and dark eyes.
"Hai." she said. "I'm Hiroto Hatsue. I'm known as Sayu."
Riley smiled as she saw the blonde-haired girl face her.
"Hello." she said. "My name is Riley. I'm from Wexford, Ireland. Do you have any Idea what's going on here?"
Hunter continued walking off not wanting to worry about what the heck is going on here. This place sucks. he thought. Why am I even here? This isn't San Francisco or at least California. He continued walking along the way until he stopped at a nearby river to splash water in his face. He was unaware about something that landed on his shoulders.
"Oh Damn it." he said. "My ponytail's is a mess."
"You are in the Band of Crests Digital Research Institute of File City," the fox explained, facing its body towards Yoshimitsu. "I am female Renamon, Mythical Historian. This one here," she motioned towards the wolf, "is WereGarurumon, male Digital Historian. There," she motioned now towards the humanoid, "is Silphymon, WereGarurumon's apprentice. We are Digimon -- Digital Monsters. Nefertimon is our queen."
"Won't be soon," WereGarurumon grunted. Renamon shot him a warning look.
"Okay. Okay. So..." 'Mitsu frowned. "File City? Digital Monsters? Band of Crests?"
"File City is at the heart of Server, this island," Renamon replied. "And yes, Digital Monsters -- Digimon for short. When we die, we are Deleted, and our data is reformed into Digitama."
"The Band of Crests," Silphymon picked up, "was formed when Nefertimon and Pegasusmon became monarchs of Server. The Band of Crests is a group formed by the Queen and King, and our true purpose is mostly unknown."
"Ooookay..." 'Mitsu crossed his arms. "So, this is the first time y'all have seen summat like me, ne?" When the three Digimon nodded, he continued. "So that means that y'all would just love to, like, chronofreeze me or summat for study. Ne?"
"On the contrary, Yoshimitsu-san," Renamon contradicted, "we would like nothing more than to study you as you interact."
"Interact with who?"
"Whom," Silphymon corrected.
"With Digimon," Renamon answered at the same time, "with others of your kind, if there are any others in the DigiWorld." She uncoiled her right paw, revealing a light green square object. "We found this near you when we found you up near Mount Panorama..."
"That!" 'Mitsu gaped. "That thing! I think it's the thing that brought me here!" Pause. "Though, that's a stupid idea, really..."
"Is it?" Renamon asked, eyes lighting up. "I have gone through ancient legends, and I discovered that this here is in several. It is called a Digivice -- "
"Renamon!" A small, white cat standing on its hind legs skidded into the room.
"Gatomon?" Renamon blinked. "What is it?"
"I can't handle the Hatchlings and the In-Trainings!" Gatomon wailed, pointing a gloved hand down the hall.
Renamon chuckled, WereGarurumon rolled his eyes, and Silphymon didn't respond. Well, at least, 'Mitsu thought it didn't -- it was hard to tell with that visor over Silphymon's eyes.
"Well, come along, human of mine," Renamon teased. "Come along and meet our children."
Hunter was unaware as he splashed some water on his face and his hair. When he was finshed with spashing his face with water, he got up from the ground and continued walking towards where ever he was walking.
Hatsue aka Sayu looked at Riley before holding up a digivice.
"I was transported into this world after throwing a cell phone I stole from a guy." she said. "I was put on probation after battering a student for making fun of my outfit. How about you?"
Blair looked down from the canyons before deciding to head up north into the forest. I hope I can find someone I can talk to instead of being alone. she thought. She began walking throughout the time even into the forests.
Riley raised an eyebrow at Hatsue(Sayu).
"You stole a cell phone." she said. "I was sucked in by my cell phone after finishing up my project. At least I'm glad that i'm not the only one here."
Hunter kept walking on unaware about anything and including being disorientated completely way before he noticed a fairy like digimon on his left shoulder. Since there were no one around to disturb him, he gently slid her onto his right hand and sat down on the tree.
'Mitsu could hardly believe his eyes.
There were about a dozen or so fuzzy, bouncy spherical things that could only be infant Digimon. Renamon studied him, an odd smile on her face.
"This is the Nursery," Renamon said unnecessarily, motioning towards the young Digimon. "Here, we study the Digivolution from the beginning. These Hatchlings and In-Training Digimon were abandoned at Digitama, and we took them in. We do not perform experiments on them; we just watch them as they interact and grow, as they Digivolve."
"Digivolve?" 'Mitsu blinked.
"When a Digimon is first born," Renamon explained, "they are what we call Hatchling, or Fresh, Digimon. That is their stage in Digivolution. When they grow enough, they go to their In-Training stage. In order for an In-Training Digimon to Digivolve into the Rookie stage, they must either gain quite a bit of energy over a period of time -- or something needs to... inspire them to Digivolve." Renamon paused bitterly, but continued lightly. "We have not yet discovered a way for Rookies to grow into Champions -- and it doesn't help that those who are all ready Champions, like Gatomon, can't remember how they Digivolved. After Champions, there is the Ultimate stage -- like WereGarurumon -- and it is rumored that there is a Mega stage."
"What are you and Silphymon?"
"I am a Rookie. Silphymon... We don't entirely know yet. It seems like he has DNA from both Gatomon and Aquilamon, but there isn't any possible way for Digimon to merge... So we don't know what she is."
"..." 'Mitsu blinked. "Wait. You just called Silphymon both a he... and a she.. What's up with that?"
Renamon smiled coyly. "We're not entirely sure on her gender, either."
"Renamon!" Gatomon wailed suddenly, making the Rookie in question and the human to jump; they had forgotten that the Cat Digimon had followed them. "Help me out here a bit, wouldja please?!"
'Mitsu turned his attention to Gatomon, and chuckled. She was buried underneath a dogpile of infant Digimon.
Renamon chuckled as well, then waved. "Hello, everyone!"
A small, yellow Digimon with a short, thick tail squirmed up to the top of the pile. "It's Rennie!" it squeaked, and bounced its way towards them, followed by all the rest.
"Rennie, Rennie!" the infant Digimon squealed, bouncing high in place.
"Hello, everyone," Renamon repeated, leaning over with her paws on her knees to look at the first yellow Digimon. "How are you doing?"
"It's me, it's me, Rennie!" it chirped. "It's Junimon! I just Digivolved TODAY, and now I'm Ritamon!"
"Good for you, Ritamon." It sounded like Renamon meant it. Were the two close? "I've got someone for you to meet!"
"Oooouu!" Ritamon squealed, bouncing high. "Show, show! Meet, meet!"
"Come on out, now," Renamon teased, looking behind her, where 'Mitsu had hid when the group of infant Digimon bounced their way towards them. "It's not like they can hurt you."
"Ehehe... Y-yeah..." 'Mitsu stepped out from behind the tall Fox Digimon, thinking that though one infant couldn't hurt him, the whole lot of them could smother him. "Er... Hi!"
"Ooooouuu!" the infants squeaked. "Who's that, who's that?"
"I'm... uh..."
Renamon began to snigger. She placed a hand on 'Mitsu's shoulder, saying, "This is Mitsumon. He's going to be staying with us for a while."
"Mizzie! Mizzie!" Ritamon chirped brightly, rocking back and forth.
This guy's smile is as big as half his face, 'Mitsu thought, sweatdropping and smiling sheepishly, raising one hand in greeting.
"Konnichiwa," he said weakly.
And then he was knocked to the ground.
Hunter looked on as he faced the fairy digimon before he continued on his way towards File City.
"What is going on here?" he said, seeing some digimon scurry about.
"You didn't know." she said. "I'm Kazemon and you're in the digital world."
Now Hunter was confused at what she said.
Riley looked at Hatsue (Sayu). "Don't you think we should find the others soon?" she asked.
Blair continued walking towards the forest as she gripped her digivice. She then noticed a boy with his hair tied in a ponytail. She brushed off any dirt off of her red hair before walking along. At least I'll be glad to talk to someone else here. She thought.
Hatsue(Sayu) nodded her head and walked with Riley. As much as she hated to admit it, she wasn't doing that badly in making a new friend. As long as she doesn't get on my bad side, I'll be fine. she thought.
"We should be fine." she said, unaware that the beach was nearby a city. "I'm going to get some food once we get inside."
Riley nodded her head as she followed Hatsue(Sayu). I don't even want to know what kind of outfits she wears. she thought, noticing the blonde girl's outfit. My outfit is me. and that is her.
Blair continued following the boy not aware about what's going on here. I hope he stops soon because I'd like to talk to him. she thought.
All he could hear was squealing.
"MizzieMizzieMizzieMizzie!"
All he could see was multicolored fur.
"MizzieMizzieMizzieMizzie!"
All he could feel was fur and heat.
"MizzieMizzieMizzieMizzie!"
He screamed.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!"
The mass of infant Digimon that had tackled him all at the same time scattered in every which direction, but he barely noticed. He was too busy screaming and flailing around.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!! AAH! AAAH! AAAAAAAAAAHHH!"
"Yoshimitsu!" Renamon cried in alarm, kneeling down. "Calm down!" She placed a paw over his eyes, which oddly calmed him down. "It is all right."
"Cutting off my air," he chanted wildly. "Cutting off my air, suffocating me, blue, purple, pink, green, yellow, white, silver, puple, silver, gold, urple..."
The Digimon looked at him oddly.
"...I suppose he is claustrophobic."
Hunter looked at the fairy digimon before putting her on his shoulder and faced the redhead girl.
"How long have you been following me?" he demanded.
Riley looked at Hatsue.
"Do you even know where your going?" she asked. "No offense Sayu."
Hatsue looked at her.
"How should I know?" she asked. "I go where I want to. It's like I don't have a home since what happened but I don't care. I survived on the streets alone by stealing money and fighting others to survive. Until my aunt and uncle took me in after being arrested."
Blair noticed the boy was somewhat angry at her for following him. "Well excuse me." she said. "I'm Blair and I don't know what or how I got here."
Hunter calmed down.
"I'm Hunter." he said, gripping his digivice. "Do ya have anything like this?" He holds up the digivice.
After 'Mitsu's little... claustrophobic outbreak, Renamon had Gatomon lead him to another room deep within the facility. (Renamon stayed behind to take care of the infants.)
"So... Where are we going again?" 'Mitsu asked for the umpteenth time.
Gatomon sighed audibly and rolled her eyes. "We're going to the Digital Data Center. Renamon-sensei wants me to show you the legends and what we know."
"What you know about what?"
"About the reasons why you could be here."
"Oh."
They traveled in silence for a short while.
"...Are we there yet?"
"No."
"Are we there yet?"
"No."
"Are we there yet?"
"No."
"Are we there yet?"
"..."
"Shutting up."
Riley continued following Hatsue in wherever it is that they're going, not noticing that a digimon was following them.
Inside the city, Hatsue(Sayu) and Riley headed inside hoping to find something to eat while they were here.
"I hope the food is good here." she said, pushing aside a piece of blonde hair off her eyes.
Blair nodded her head and showed Hunter her blue digivice. She finally saw him calming down.
"What do you do?" she asked. "I'm a singer in my friend's rock band 'Winds of Earth'."
Hunter looked at her.
"That's neat." he said, impressed. "I play in my friends band to as a bassist/singer. "He looked around the city for other people.
Riley and Hatsue sat down on the corner after they saw a resturant. It didn't matter where they ate as long as they can get food soon.
"Kuso na." Hatsue said. "I am hungry."
She turned to see Riley having the same feeling and they both walked inside the resturant. A floramon saw the two.
"Konichiwa." she said. "Follow me."
"Hunter, wait up." a frog said.
Hunter turned around to see a frog digimon looking uup at him. From the look that he got from Hunter, he didn't look like he was impressed.
"I'm Karumon." he said. "You digimon, friend, confidant..."
"My what?" Hunter yelled.
The Digital Data Center was a large, circular room lined with computer panels. A number of Digimon bustled about, many of which looked at Yoshimitsu oddly as they passed. None of the Digimon seemed remotely familiar.
"Um... Where's WereGarurumon and Silphymon?" 'Mitsu blinked.
Gatomon rolled her eyes. "They're in a different division than this. We need to see someone you haven't met yet." She raised her voice as she stepped forward into the room. "Is Stingmon in?"
"I'm right here, Gatomon," answered a deep, buzzy voice. "Is this the human Silphymon spoke of?"
'Mitsu and Gatomon turned. A tall, dark-green bug-like humanoid Digimon stood behind them.
"Hai, Sempai," Gatomon simpered. Under her breath, she muttered just so 'Mitsu could hear, "Silphymon and Stingmon're sweet on each other. It's sickening." She raised her voice to normal level. "Renamon-sensei wished me to bring the human to you so you can inform him about the Virus, and why he might be here."
"Ah, yes," Stingmon said darkly. "The Virus." He walked past them and to the control panel across from the doorway. "Its true name is the Devil's Assassin, but we just call it the Virus -- for that is what it is. It infects the -- "
A loud, wailing siren interrupted him. Red lights flashed all around the room. All Digimon in the room dropped what they were doing and ran to the nearest control panel, leaving 'Mitsu standing confused in the center of the room.
"Warning! Warning!" blared a computerized voice. "Infection detected. Warning! Infection detected."
"Computer!" Stingmon ordered, "Locate the infected data!"
The screen in front of Stingmon blipped in response, and flashed a picture of the Nursery. Stingmon blinked, taken aback.
"Locate the infected data," Stingmon repeated, less authority and more confusion in his voice.
The screen flashed green as it scanned. After the scan, the entire screen was gray -- except for one, red-outlined figure.
Only the sirens pierced the shocked silence as everyone in the room watched black demonic wings unfolded from the figure's back.
"Renamon," Gatomon breathed.
Hatsue looked inside to hear the alarm.
"Kuso, Sempai" she said, unimpressed. "What do they think they're doing? I want my food now."
"What is going on here?" Blair asked. "I mean why every digimon hiding?"
Riley followed Hatsue suit.
"What is going on here?" she asked.
"We got an emergency." Floramon said. "I need to get you inside and hiding from the Virus soon."
"The wings are a trademark sign of the Virus," Gatomon explained hurriedly as she and Yoshimitsu, along with many others, rushed down to the Nursery, where the infants could be heard squealing with terror. "It has many other side effects, so many that it's impossible to keep count, but if data sprouts the wings, then you know they're infected."
"What's so bad about this Virus if it just makes the data grow wings?"
"The wings keep growing bigger and bigger," Stingmon continued, "as they draw energy from the data. Once the wings reach a certain size, the data is essentially destroyed and sometimes replaced by a darker version of the data."
"Whoa!" 'Mitsu stopped dead. "You mean Renamon's...?!"
"Not yet. She has a few days," Stingmon called over his shoulder.
Hunter glared at Karumon as he and Blair heard the alarm.
"You don't mean..." he said.
Karumon nodded his head.
"I have to get you and your friend to shelter." he said. "There's a Virus out there waiting to attack us."
Blair nodded her head at what Karumon had said about the Virus.
"One problem though." she said. "Where are we going to hide?"
By the time 'Mitsu reached the Nursery, Stingmon, Gatomon, and the other Digimon had seperated the infant Digimon from Renamon, who was laying on the ground, eyes listless and body twitching madly as if she was having some odd seizure.
"Mizzie," whimpered a small voice by 'Mitsu's foot.
He looked down. Ritamon trembled fearfully, looking up at him with wide, hopeful blue eyes.
"Will Rennie be okay?"
'Mitsu knelt down and patted Ritamon on the head between the ears. The poor kid looked terrified!
"...Yeah. She'll be okay," he lied.
The sirens had long since died away, but the infant Digimon were still startled and worried -- all of them held concerned looks on their faces.
Viruses were created by hackers. Someone had to have created the virus and stuck it in the Digital World just for kicks... 'Mitsu's eyes stiffened. Whoever created that virus and was spreading it around was not going to get away with it. Whoever it was, 'Mitsu was going to take down.
Whoever it was, he'd better start running.
Riley looked outside to see something wrong.
"Someone needs to check it out." she said.
"Where exactly are you taking us too?" Blair asked Karumon. "I mean I don't trust a talking frog."
Hatsue aka (Sayu) looked outside the window.
"It's gone for now." she said. "Now can we eat? I'm hungry."
Hunter nodded his head in agreement. Karumon glared at the both of them.
"I'm more than just a talking frog." he said. "I'm here to protect Hunter and your girlfriend complains."
That got Hunter's attention.
"Blair is not my girlfriend." he said. "I just met her. Two, I don't believe a talking frog who tells me I have to meet someone else and save this....."
He stopped at mid sentence as he saw a demonic digimon flying about.
After Renamon was taken to the Infirmary, Gatomon, Stingmon, and Yoshimitsu returned to the Digital Data Center, still shaken up.
"So... this virus, the Devil's Assassin..." 'Mitsu murmured. "...It causes a Digimon to grow wings that get bigger and bigger until they die, right?"
Stingmon nodded sullenly. "There are also side effects involved," he added. "For instance, it is often found that infected Vaccine Digimon have fits of seizures and goofy stupors. However, infected Data Digimon have absolutely no 'universal' signs of the Virus. This is what makes it the most dangerous -- the side effects differ from Digimon to Digimon. You never know how it will strike next, nor when."
If 'Mitsu hadn't seen Renamon's seizure, then he would've asked "What does that have to do with me?" Instead, he asked, "So, Silphymon thinks that I came from the Virus?"
"Does she?" Stingmon chuckled amusedly. "Her hypothesis is quite wrong. The Virus could not create anything but suffering."
"What was Renamon's idea, then...?"
"Renamon and I," Gatomon explained, "believe that you are fulfilling the Prophecy, as fortold by the Great Angel." She raised her voice. "Open up the Prophecy Files."
With a small blip!, words appeared on the screen, as long as five symbols -- one bright green, one red, one pink, one bronze, and one blue.
"Five Chosen Ones will arrive when the DigiWorld is in great need, and they shan't be Digimon. Each one will be powered by the Crest, by their strongest trait -- Altruism, Patience, Destiny, Luck, and Happiness. Aided by their Digimon partners and Digital devices, they will save the DigiWorld from certain destruction." Gatomon glanced sideways at Yoshimitsu. "That's the gist of the Prophecy."
She motioned towards the small square object, which Yoshimitsu had clamped onto his jeans. "That," she said, "is most likely a .Digital device', as foretold in the Prophecy. Judging by its color, the bright green, you have the Crest of Altruism, which is also depicted as bright green." She motioned towards the screen.
Yoshimitsu's head was spinning. "So... So I'm one of the Chosen Ones?"
Gatomon smiled shrewdly. "That's what Renamon and I believe."
"So... There must be others, then, right? Four others."
"Yes. Each one bearing a Digital device and a Crest. Patience is red, Destiny is pink, Luck is bronze, and Happiness is blue. If they haven't all ready arrived, the other DigiDestined will be coming soon."
Karumon was relieved when he saw Hunter stopped ranting about his responsibilities and his refusal to take them. He let him see for himself how serious it was.
"Now you believe me." he said.
"Not really." Hunter said arrogantly.
Blair didn't want believe what she was seeing but she didn't have a choice. She also didn't want to deal with the ongoing arguments with Hunter and Karumon.
"Can we not fight?" she said. "I'd like to find some others who are as confused as we are."
"Renamon is ready to see visitors now," reported a large, round Digimon in a nurse's outfit.
"Thank you, Infirmymon," Stingmon accepted, bowing his head slightly with respect as the squat Digimon scuttled off.
"So... The Virus isn't contagious?" 'Mitsu blinked.
Stingmon shook his head. "Thankfully, no. We don't know how it picks data to infect, nor how it travels."
"...In my world..." 'Mitsu mused, "viruses are transferred through emails and pop-up ads. Sickness-viruses spread in different ways, though it usually has to do with some kind of contact with a sick person..."
Gatomon and Stingmon looked at each other, then shrugged.
"I'm ganna go visit Sensei," Gatomon declared.
"I'll come with you!" 'Mitsu chirped, suddenly bright and optimistic.
"Very well. Take care," Stingmon called after the duo.
Riley looked up at Floramon before facing Hatsue.
"I understand why you need to eat." she said, hearing her stomach grumble. "I guess I do need to eat as well."
"Then we better eat soon." Hatsue said. "Before I find the closest waiter to cream first."
"Wait" Blair said. "I have two dots. One red and one pink that are on the other side. And then a green dot inside the castle"
