   Gundam Evangelion

Disclaimer: Well, once again I find myself with yet another idea for a
non-Ranma fanfic. I REALLY got to stop this! In any case, Heero Yuy
and the characters of Evangelion belong to their respective creators
   so please don't sue!

Note: This story takes place just before the Endless Waltz Movie of
   Gundam Wing.

   Chapter One

   Gundam Angel

   The war was over...

Peace had triumphed, as it always has with any conflict, whether there
was a winner and a loser, or when both sides had been annihilated.
Fortunately for the people of the Earth and the Space Colonies, both
sides had claimed victory and a cessation of hostilities had occurred.
After countless battles and an enormous loss of lives, the two sides
had decided that everyone had suffered enough and that the conflict
should end. All the bloodshed and violence had been halted, thanks to
the courage of five very special young pilots and their incredible
   Mobile Suits, the Gundams.

Each pilot was unique in his own right, and had their own special
histories and personalities, which matched with their extraordinary
mecha. Each one was sent out on a mission, to end the conflict and
bring peace to all. They were the warriors of future.

But now, the fight was over. So where did that leave the warrior with
   no battles to be fought?

   ----------

Deep within a large, yet secluded hanger, the pilot who was answered
to the name of Heero Yuy, nodded as he clicked the final commands on
his computer console and looked up. In front of him stood Wing Zero,
the most powerful and advanced of the Gundams. Ironically, the Mobile
Suit had never been intended to be completed, but its basic design had
served as the blueprint for the construction of all the other Gundams,
including the Mobile Suit that Heero had begun with, Gundam 01. Due to
its unique and potentially dangerous Zero System, Wing Zero had been
abandoned during the planning stage and the five engineers who
designed it went off on their own to create their own Mobile Suits.

However, due to a twist of fate, Wing Zero was completed by one of the
Gundam pilots, Quatre Rababa Winner, during a bout of utter depression
and sorrow. Its overall power was staggering and the tendency of the
Zero System to drive the pilot mad, made the Mobile Suit a danger to
all, including the person who entered its cockpit.

However, when the Mobile Suit fell into the possession of Heero Yuy,
the youth not only resisted the madness of the Zero System, but
mastered the mecha. Having already experienced a similar system with
the Gundam Epyon, the pilot was able to take control of Wing Zero and
use its awesome power to stop the war and save all humankind.

However, such power was not needed in these times of peace. Heero
found himself without purpose or a mission. He had been trained to be
the ultimate soldier and he did his job extremely well. Now, he found
himself... somewhat empty and had no direction. Piloting a Gundam into
battle and fighting the enemy, that had been how he had been raised.
The problem was, there were no enemies. All who had fought against him
were now allied with those whom he had fought to protect. The only
thing he had left... was his Mobile Suit.

And so, Heero had been spending the last few months working on his
Gundam. He had altered its systems, making improvements and increasing
its power. Wing Zero had started out as a transformer, with the
ability to shift into a Neo Bird form. However, learning from prior
experience after piloting Gundam 01, Heero thought that made the
Gundam more vulnerable. With so many moving parts, the Mobile Suit had
more weak points and any number of those systems could fail at any
time. It also required more maintenance and wasted precious power that
   could be used for battle.

The Gundam pilot decided to make Wing Zero into a non-transformer and
totally redesigned the vernier propulsion units. Instead of having the
thrusters hidden within the two nacelles that were mounted on the
back, he had them replaced with new kinds of propulsion units that
resembled angelic wings, which also served as defensive shields during
reentry into Earth's atmosphere and from enemy attacks. This made Wing
Zero more maneuverable and gave the Mobile Suit more thrust. The
Vulcan machine cannons that were mounted on the torso were now armed
with more powerful, armor-piercing ammunition; the same kind that was
used by the Gundam Heavy Arms. The Mobile Suit also had two Beam
Sabers, each mounted in a compartment in the top wing verniers. And
with added Gundanium armor plating, Wing Zero no longer carried a
   shield.

However, the most dramatic change was in Wing Zero's powerful main
weapon, the Twin Buster Rifle. The weapon was longer and more robust.
Its energy output was more than double than what it was, when Heero
destroyed that fragment of the Space Fortress Libra. And it still had
the capability to split into two separate rifles, each with the power
   to atomize an asteroid.

The other Gundam pilots had questioned their comrade on upgrading Wing
Zero when there was no need for the special Mobile Suits in this time
of peace. Heero's response was simply, "I had an idea and I wanted to
   see if it would work."

Duo Maxwell, the pilot of the Gundum Death Scythe had been struck dumb
by Heero's reply. Did he think that he was customizing a sports car,
just for fun?! The other pilots were also confused by Heero's answer.
However, the methodical and almost always serious Heero did not
explain his answer, nor deemed it necessary to reply to any more of
their questions as he continued to upgrade his Mobile Suit. He had not
even spoken to Relena all this time as he felt that he would only get
in the way of her diplomatic relations with the nations of the world
and the space colonies. To the perfect soldier that he was, his
upgrade of Wing Zero was a mission and he would see it to completion.

   ----------

   Several months later...

Heero nodded as he put his newly retrofitted Gundam through its paces.
He was currently flying the upgraded Wing Zero through an asteroid
field, testing its redesigned vernier systems and maneuverability. The
Mobile Suit darted easily around ice and rock fragments like an agile
dragonfly. Its pilot was pleased at its performance as he pushed it
   towards its utmost limits.

However, it was not just the propulsions systems that he was testing
today, but also the weapons. As several large chunks of space debris
came at him, he first opted for the Vulcan cannons. The two,
multi-barreled weapons popped out of the chest area near the head and
began letting loose with thousands of rounds per seconds. The new,
armor-piercing ammunition shredded the rocks into Swiss cheese and
Heero had plenty of rounds to spare. He had recently added several
belts of reloads in a spare compartment in the back.

Another large chunk of debris came at him and Heero decided a more
direct approach. Wing Zero whipped out one of its Beam Sabers and dove
toward the meteoroid. With several quick swipes and thrusts, the mass
   was cut apart.

It was at that moment that the collision sensors and threat scanners
picked up an especially large object heading toward him. Heero looked
at his monitors and saw that a massive asteroid was drifting toward
him. The sensors picked up some strange energy readings from it as the
pilot of the Mobile Suit prepared himself. The readouts began
downloading information about the huge chunk of minerals, metals and
ice. Several unidentifiable elements were detected within its core and
energy readings were off the scale. The entire thing was like some
gigantic comet and Heero didn't need to be a rocket scientist to
figure out what it would do to him if it collided with Wing Zero. Even
near-indestructible Gundanium alloys had their limits.

However, Heero Yuy looked at this situation as any other he had
   encountered.

   "Mission... accepted."

That was when Wing Zero took out the Twin Buster Rifle and aimed the
two muzzles at the approaching mass. With both hands of the Gundam
holding it steady, he engaged the targeting computer. At the front of
the mighty weapon, energy began to coalesce as it prepared to release
   its awesome payload.

   Then Heero fired.

The Twin Buster Rifle released a massive beam of energy which tore
through the center of the asteroid and obliterated its core. However,
there was an unforeseen side-effect as that energy came into contact
with the rare metals and other radioactive materials within that
enormous chunk of space debris. This caused a chain reaction which
resulted in a huge detonation of quantum energies that ripped a hole
   in the space-time configuration.

Though Wing Zero was more than a hundred kilometers away when it
happened, it was still caught in the shockwaves. Heero engaged the
wing verniers to wrap themselves in front of his Mobile Suit for
protection, but it wasn't enough. His brain felt as if it was on fire
as the Zero System was bathed in unknown energies.

Heero fought to keep conscious, but he knew that it was a losing
battle. Then, as he felt himself being overwhelmed by darkness, he
   whispered out one name.

   "Relena..."

Then, after what seemed to be an eternity for him, the Gundam pilot
blacked out and his Mobile Suit went limp as it drifted toward the
tear in the fabric of time and space. Just as it was swallowed up, the
rift sealed itself. At that moment, the most powerful Gundam and its
pilot were gone from this plane of reality.

   ----------

   In another time, another place...

"Shinji! Look out!" Rei said as she watched her comrade take a very
   bad hit.

Inside EVA-1, the pilot shook his head after being knocked back from
the latest invader that threatened to wipe out all mankind with the
Third Impact. The so-called Angel that he was battling was an
especially tough one, despite the fact that he had both Rei and Asuka
   fighting it as well.

EVA-1 lurched to its feet as its pilot tried to get in closer to the
enemy. However, the massive machine had sustained considerable damage
and was reacting sluggishly. Asuka and Rei were currently engaging the
monstrosity, but the Angel was a lot tougher than anything they had
   previously battled.

Inside her own mecha, Asuka gritted her teeth as she directed her
machine to swing a mean roundhouse right at the Angel's head. However,
the enemy had anticipated her move and ducked, then landed a hard blow
to her robot's midsection. Asuka was sent crashing onto her back as
she was caught off-balance. The Angel then swung around and caught
Rei's machine in the head just as she tried to blindside it.

"Rei! Asuka!" Shinji cried out as he struggled to get his robot to
move faster and engage the enemy. It was at that time that his warning
sensors went off and his threat monitors came to life. Something else
   was coming down from above.

   ----------

   NERV headquarters...

"We've got another contact!" The officer cried out as his monitors
indicated that something was diving down through the Earth's
   atmosphere.

"Oh my God! It's another Angel!" Another technician said as he began
tracking the object as it made planet fall. "Though it's... smaller
   than the first one..."

"Point of impact?" Misato asked as she watched the screens with
apprehension. The battle had been going badly for all three EVA units
and now more trouble was on the way.

There was long pause as the man calculated the landing point.

   "The battle zone..."

   ----------

High up in the ionosphere, Heero Yuy slowly regained consciousness.
His vision cleared as he looked at his Gundum's monitors. It seemed to
him that the explosion from that huge chunk of space rock had blown
him clear from the asteroid field and his Gundam was now making
   reentry into Earth's atmosphere.

He then made a check on all his systems. Other than a few burned out
circuits, Wing Zero was functioning properly. The automatic systems
were already engaged, and the mecha was protected from the intense
heat of reentry by wrapping the wing-like verniers in front of it.
Heero figured that he'd be on the surface of the planet in about five
   minutes.

Everything seemed to be all right, but the Gundam pilot felt that
something was... off. It had happened just after that asteroid had
exploded. The energies it had emitted was unlike any he had ever
encountered before and it had seeped into the Gundam's inner
mechanisms, reacting with the Zero System. Despite the protection
provided by the verniers and the Gundanium alloys, the strange
radiation still penetrated the mecha and affect both it and the pilot
through its unique cockpit system. Wing Zero glowed with a strange new
light as it passed through the outer atmosphere and headed down...
   toward another war.

Heero Yuy was about to do what he does best... on a new battlefield.

   ----------

Shinji winced as EVA-1 was knocked back, yet again. The Angel was a
formidable opponent and was giving Asuka and Rei a hard time. Its
Absolute Terror Field (AT field), was making things even harder to
hurt it. The EVAs were designed to emit their own AT Fields, thereby
canceling out the Angel's so that they could engage in hand-to-hand
combat. This Angel was faster than usual and seemed able to anticipate
their moves. Their machines were heavily damaged and power reserves
were failing. They needed a miracle.

They got it, in the form of Wing Zero.

When his threat monitors went off, Shinji began to lose hope. This one
Angel alone was hard to beat, but they now had to contend with
   another.

When the object landed, it caused a huge cloud of dust to be kicked up
and the ground rumbled with the aftershocks. The three EVA pilots all
directed their gazes to the center of the crater that had just been
formed. Even the Angel paused in its attack and looked toward the
point of impact. Then... it came out.

Shinji could only stare. This was the first time that an Angel looked
   like... well, an angel. The thing was small, around sixty feet tall;
barely more than a third of the height as their EVAs. It was humanoid
in shape, but was more robust and resembled some space-age armored
gladiator. It had four, feathery wings mounted on its back and was
colored a deep blue with white. Its eyes glowed emerald green as it
   surveyed the area.

   ----------

Inside the cockpit of Wing Zero, Heero Yuy scanned the area where he
had landed. It was a devastated urban landscape and there were three
damaged units that looked like Mobile Suits, only taller. He estimated
their heights to be around a hundred and fifty feet. However, they
were slimmer and didn't seem to be carrying much in terms of
firepower. They seemed to be built more for power and hand-to-hand
combat. Then, he saw the Angel.

The term Angel was generic and applied to anything that wished to
bring about the Third Impact, thereby ending the human race. This
particular Angel had a top-heavy torso and pincers on the ends of its
arms. It decided then and there that this newcomer was the enemy and
   charged at Wing Zero.

   Big mistake.

The pilot of the Gundam had not been sure what had been going on, but
once that Angel attacked him, his military training took over and he
answered the Angel's challenge with one phrase.

   "Mission... accepted."

The Angel took a swing at the Gundam, but unlike its previous
opponents, Heero was far more seasoned in the ways of combat. Plus was
the fact that Wing Zero's response time and cockpit system made it
extremely agile. Being smaller, the Gundam easily dodged the blow,
then leapt up to counter with its right fist. The Angel brought up its
AT field, but to everyone's surprise, Heero's machine suddenly glowed
with the same light and canceled out the Angel's aura. And with its
main protection gone, the Angel was nothing more than a big target.
The Gundam's fist slammed hard and knocked the Angel back. Then the
two Wing Vulcan cannons opened up, spraying the Angel with thousands
of rounds of armor-piercing, explosive ammunition. The front of the
monstrosity was holed like Swiss cheese as it was driven further back.

The Angel wasn't going to go down without a fight as it swerved to the
left and then charged again at Wing Zero. Hero anticipated the move
and evaded the attack. With its verniers propelling the Mobile Suit at
unprecedented speeds, the Gundam pilot easily outmaneuvered its
opponent and ended up behind it. That was when Heero decided to use
   the Beam Saber.

All three EVA pilots watched in amazement as a glowing shaft of light
appeared at the end of the cylinder that the strange Angel had in its
hand. The blade flashed and sparked as Wing Zero began carving up its
opponent like a Thanksgiving turkey. Limbs were quartered and gaping
tears were formed across the body of the Angel as Heero picked his
   enemy apart.

After hacking off its arms and tearing open the torso areas, Heero
thought that his foe was done. However, the Angel wouldn't stop and
made a last-ditch attempt to take its enemy with it. However, dying
was not on Heero's agenda as he met the Angel's charge with his own.
With Wing Zero's verniers going at full throttle, the Mobile Suit
slammed head-on with it, and rocketed upward, carrying the Angel up
into the sky. When they reached an altitude of two miles, the monster
slipped off and fell back toward the ground.

However, it would never crash as Heero decided to finish it off for
good. Since he didn't have any room on the ground to bring out his
most powerful weapon, the pilot had been limited to close-quarters
combat. However, high up in the sky, he had plenty of elbow room as he
brought out the Twin Buster Rifle, aimed... and fired.

A huge beam of energy lanced down toward the falling Angel. Though
heavily damaged, it still managed to raise its AT Field. However,
whatever had given Wing Zero the ability to generate its own AT Field,
also boosted the power of its Twin Buster Rifle to unprecedented
levels. The beam tore through the Angel's protective aura and the
monster was vaporized in a huge explosion that lit up the sky. What
was left of the Angel were just charred fragments as they drifted down
   toward the ground.

Hovering above the devastated battlefield, Heero nodded and took a
   deep breath.

   "Mission... accomplished."

He then decided to leave the area and directed his Gundam to fly away
   into the wild blue yonder.

   ----------

As the three EVA pilots watched Wing Zero streak away into the sky,
Asuka called on her communicator to her comrades.

"Did... you guys just see what I just saw?"

Rei nodded as she replied. "Yes, but... I do not think that was an
   Angel."

"Maybe not an enemy Angel, but... it certainly was our 'guardian'
   angel." Shinji said with awe.

   ----------

   A few days later...

Shinji, Asuka and Rei were all sitting in class at their school as the
teacher introduced the newest arrival to the student population.

"Class, we have a new student that will be joining us as of this day."
He gestured to the young man who was dressed in the school uniform for
boys and had his hands clasped behind his back. "Why don't you
   introduce yourself, son?"

The student with the tousled brown hair and intense look in his eyes
nodded. "Hello. My name is Heero Yuy. Pleased to meet you."

   To be continued...?

Well, with writer's block and a computer crash that wiped out the
rough copy of the next episode of Fist of the Pikachu, I decided to
take another shot at a non-Ranma crossover fic. I haven't seen much of
the other Gundam series and writing this story has given me some new
ideas for when I write the next chapter of Gundam Warblade. Currently,
I'm also working on finishing Tattoon Ranma ch.7 and the Crossover
Crisis. So what do you think? I already have an idea for a six-part
series for Gundam Evangelion on paper. Give me some comments.

In any case, this will be the final revision to ch.1. Thanks to all my
readers for pointing out the mistakes.
