Now we take a look at yet another of my fave. anime dudes. In the Frieza saga of Dragonball Z, we get a smidget of information on Frieza's past. He makes the statement that Goku was the first person to ever hurt him, besides his parents. Now, if you're like me, that got your attention. And later on, we get an opportunity to actually meet one of Frieza's parents-------his father, King Cold.![]()
King Cold makes his appearance in the beginning of the Trunks saga. He travelled to the remains of the planet Namek in search of his son. He found him gravely wounded, and immediately had Frieza reconstructed. Frieza was now half cyborgish. And since he still dwelled on the fact that a Saiyan defeated him, he had King Cold change the course of his starcruiser to planet Earth so that Frieza could have his revenge.
King Cold's curiosity was aroused by this "Super Saiyan" who defeated his son. However, in the Japanese version, he vowed to squeeze the life from Goku. ^_^
King Cold's ship landed on Earth with little problem. But they didn't know that the Earth's special forces were there waiting for them. (Not that this made any difference.) Anyway, Frieza's men were lined up, ready to shed blood. But they were interrupted by a mysterious young man who defeated the entire army in a second. This was Trunks, a fighter from the future, who was the son of Vegeta. He challanged Frieza and King Cold and defeated Frieza with no trouble at all. This made King Cold pretty mad.
Now it was down to Trunks and King Cold. But King Cold, being the type not to waste an opportunity, proposed that Trunks join him and replace Frieza. (And I bet he would have ended up stabbing him in the back later on...literally) Trunks promptly refused. Getting a little devious, King Cold asked to see Trunks' sword, which he had used to slay Frieza. Trunks handed it to him, and King Cold attempted to use the sword against him, believing that the sword was Trunks' only means of power. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't. Trunks blew a hole right through the giant. King Cold was down, but he wasn't going to give up. He tried to plead with Trunks to spare his life, saying that he wanted peace. (In the Japanese version, he tried to bribe Trunks by offering him his own star system.) Trunks knew that the king was spouting a ton of bull, so he promptly blew him to smithereens. King Cold never stood a chance. In fact, he was defeated faster than Frieza was. (And he's supposed to be stronger than Frieza!!)
King Cold only appears in a total of 6 episodes in all of Dragonball Z. He appears in the first four episodes of the Trunks saga, one episode after the defeat of Cell (the episode right after Trunks destroys the androids in his future), and supposedly one more during the Buu saga.
Now, you're probably wondering why I like this guy, right? He sounds like a total dork. Well, I guess that's why I like him. I find him really funny. His aristocratic attitude and constant complaining makes him the perfect target for ridicule. In fact, whenever he starts laughing, I laugh too, because his laugh is so hilarious! And he's so...ya know...dumb. That's the best part. You can't help but laugh at a huge purple guy who's totally clueless. Lost in his own power, I guess. ^_^ But he's still a cutie in my eyes. ^_~
