She turned as the dark eyes pinned her to her chair.
He looked at her with such an intensity that he appeared to
be glaring, but there was the tiniest of smirks on his lips.
"You wanted to see me, Miss Po?" his eyes held a tint of
amusement.
"Yes, " she managed to pry her eyes from his face,
the youthful, bronzed skin and soft, supple looking lips.
"It's a new mission, " she handed him the file that had been
sitting uselessly in her hands. "It's-it's a base. It has
been showing irregular activity recently, and it need to be
checked out. You will be go-going undercover, as a client.
All of the information you will need is in the folder I just
gave you."
"Thank you, Miss Po, " his smirk grew as he caught
each of her stutters. She almost blushed and turned back to
her computer. His warm hand gently covered her shoulder and
her eyes widened. "Thank you."
His sultry voice stayed in her ears as she pryed his
hand away. "I'm too old for you. I just had my twenty-first
birthday, " she murmured to him.
"But you admire me? And just how young do you think
I am, Miss Po? I just had my eightteenth birthday, " he
stroked her hand in his own. "Legally a man."
"What about all of the others?" she pulled away.
"The others that love you so dearly?"
"What others?" his voice was sarcastic now. "The ones
who stalk me? The ones who obsess about me from dawn 'till
dusk? I'm not gay, Miss Po. I just haven't met the right
girl--woman. Miss Po, " he purred in her ear. "They mean
nothing to me."
"Go ON, Hiiro! Get to your mission; the transport
leaves in thirty minutes and you haven't packed!" Sally
shoved his hand away and forced herself to concentrate on the
spreadsheets before her.
"Fine, Miss Po. Fine, " he left. When the door
closed with a defined click, she allowed herself to look back.
Sally sighed in defeat.
"Why do you always do that? Don't you realize what
torture you put me through?" she hung her head and rested her
elbows on the terminal. She raised her head and looked up to
a picture from the first days of Preventer forces. The entire
first string of Preventers had been Gundam pilots. From Hiiro
to Zechs, everyone on squad had piloted something. Sally heself
had been founder, Lady Une the space branch leader, Lucrezia
Noin the Earth branch leader. Quatre and Trowa were the two
alternates, taking part time jobs and performing certain missions.
Duo, Hiiro, and Wufei took up full time jobs, but Duo soon backed
out to work in a scrap yard with Hilde. Zechs, or Milliardo, as
he now prefered to be called, helped Lucrezia with her part, and
all of the Preventers were invited to the wedding.
Sally felt like an old maid sometimes. She was twenty-one
and still had no husband, where as all of her old friends were
happily married with children, no less! She and Wufei had struck
out on a relationship at first, but it was soon revealed to be
nothing more than mutual respect. He was like a baby brother to
her, and she told him most of her secrets.
But she couldn't tell him about her crush on Hiiro Yui.
It was unthinkable; she wouldn't, couldn't do it. He would be
crushed if he found out. She would feel so guilty, as if she had
led him on. In all respects, Wufei would have been the perfect
traditional husband, but she still felt more attracted to Hiiro.
It had all started as a vague sense of admiration. How
could someone so young be so responsible and so intelligent?
How could Hiiro Yui be that much better of a pilot than people
twice his age? How could he be so determined, so powerful, to
be a major influence in World Peace?
All of these questions confused her, made her ponder
more about him. And yet, the more she thought, the more she
admired him. The more she admired him, the more he appealed
to her. He couldn't appeal to her! He was a solid three years
younger than she, and that was enormous gap!
She sighed again and her breath hitched in her throat as
she felt a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Wufei?"
"Hn. Onna, " he replied, laughter in his voice. "What's
wrong? Something is bothering you."
"It's nothing, Wufei. It doesn't matter, " she answered.
Suddenly, her chair spun around and she found herself face to face
with Wufei. An angry Wufei.
"Sally, I KNOW something's wrong with you! Tell me. I
always thought you could confide anything in me. Do you worry
that I will gossip?" he asked, his onyx eyes glittering in anger.
"No, Wufei, I know you will not gossip. I just don't want
to hurt you, and I think this might upset you. Besides, nothing
will come of it, so I know I should not trouble you, " she
slumped down into her chair.
Wufei knelt next to her. "Onna, that is the silliest
thing I've ever heard. Even if it upsets me, you MUST tell me;
you will no doubt feel better for doing it, " he gently took
her hand in his own.
"I-I fell in love with someone. One of your friends, "
she whispered.
"Is that all? Woman, if that is all, you ought to be
tied and tortured with a wet noodle, " he teased. "That is
nothing to worry about!"
Sally took a deep breath. "It's not just that. I've
had a crush on him for a long time, and I don't know what to do!"
"Well, I want to know who, Sally! Don't think you can
get away with it by just saying 'one of your friends'!" Wufei
laughed.
"It's Hiiro, " she told him, blushing. He smiled.
"Well, I KNEW that. I wouldn't have asked if I didn't, "
Wufei smirked and Sally grinned at him. "Now we worry about
something happening. You don't think anything's going to happen?"
"Nothing should happen! He's too young!" Sally replied.
"I'm just as young as he is!"
"But . . . "
"You're just nervous."
"Even so . . . "
"If you don't go tell him, I'm going to tell him for you!"
"WuFEI!" Sally gasped.
"I'm not kidding, " he gave her a fatherly stare.
"I- . . . fine, " she resignedly answered, standing up and
heading to the door. She grabbed her coat and turned back to him.
"You'll be there to pick up my pieces, Wufei?" she tentatively asked.
"If he hurts you, someone will have to pick up HIS pieces, "
Wufei answered.
Sally gratefully smiled and left. She grabbed a set of keys
and headed out the door. "Miss Sally, where are you going?" Lucrezia
asked, glancing up from a mountain of paperwork on her desk.
"I'm going out for a little while. I'll be back soon, "
Sally waved to her and Zechs as she left.
It was a short ride; it only took five minutes. The shuttle
was boarding as she arrived. The car only took a few seconds to
park, and she headed into the station. It was bustling with activity
and Sally could barely get in. People crowded all around her. She
checked her watch. The shuttle Hiiro was supposed to get on was
supposed to leave in one minute.
Sally fiercely pushed her way into the station. People
crushed everywhere, and Hiiro was nowhere to be found. She slumped,
defeated, into a chair as the stewardess called over the intercom,
"Last boarding call for shuttle flight 935 from Earth to Space
Colony L3-75885X. Last boarding call!"
The Preventer Chief sighed to herself, sinking into her
chair and searching her pockets for a handkerchief. Someone moved
in closer to her and handed her one. "Thank you, " she murmured
to them, dabbing her eyes with the cloth.
"You're welcome, " they replied, laughter in his voice.
She looked up and Hiiro looked back down at her. "Now what were
you doing here, Miss Po?" he asked, tracing her jaw with a strong
hand. She blushed and held his hand close.
"Hiiro, I needed to talk to you, " she told him, kissing
the palm of his hand.
"What about, Miss Po?" he lifted her tear-streaked face
to meet his gaze.
"I needed to tell you about how I feel for you, " she
blinked, his dark eyes capturing her own. "I needed to tell
you that I-I love you, " she whispered, lowering her eyes.
"I know that, Miss Po, " he replied, bringing his face
closer to her own. "I know that and I wouldn't have flirted with
you if I didn't."
"Flirted . . . ?" she looked at him imploringly. "Hiiro,
don't joke . . . "
"What makes you think I was joking? Ask Duo. The Perfect
Soldier does not joke, " Hiiro cupped her face in his hand. She
blushed deeply and he lowered his lips to hers. Hiiro's lips were
so soft and warm, she felt as if she were melting into him. His
hand gently stroked over her cheek as he kissed her.
They eventually broke apart, staring deeply into one
another's eyes. Sally's pulse was racing like a rabbit's and
Hiiro's eyes were slightly glazed. He placed a finger on her lips
and smiled softly. "I've wanted to do that for a long time, Miss
Po, " he kissed her sweetly.
"Just Sally, Hiiro, " she reached up around his neck.
"Just Sally." Their lips met again in a heated kiss.
--
When they got back to headquarters, Lucrezia and Zechs were
necking behind her desk. Sally raised an eyebrow at them and they
flushed. Then Sally and Hiiro continued on to her office, where
Wufei was waiting.
"Onna, what took you so long?" he playfully demanded,
taking in Sally's mussed hair and slightly bruised and swollen lips.
"None of your business, Wuffie-kins, " she teased. He
smirked back and looked at Hiiro.
"I thought you had a mission?" he winked at the Japanese
man.
"Hmph. When I got to the station, Winner called and told
me that it was a faux mission. Then he commanded me wait at the
station, " Hiiro eyed Wufei suspiciously.
"Aa, well, " Wufei smirked and left the office. "I'll
leave you two lovebirds alone now . . . " he called over his
shoulder.
