Game Review: Super Smash Bros. Melee
p align="center">This game screams Detail! When you zoom in, you can see the denim in Mario's overalls, and each stitch on Peaches dress. Textures just pop out at you, and everything, even the smallest items are rendered in...gasp..actual polygons, not just a couple of pixels like the original. The picture at the top shows the difference between the 64 and GCN versions. Contrary to what most people think, the game's fighting system and controls are actually very complex, and in this version, they've added several types of evade/dodge maneuvers and new special moves for each character. There is now a solid single player mode, and with tons of extras (15 characters, hundreds of trophies), the game will make you want to play it over many a time. The controls make good use of the Gamecube's new controller, with each button having a distinct feel. Plus the sound is great, each level having an orchestrated version of Nintendo's classic themes. Nothing can be wrong with this game, unless you don't have a friend to play it with. This is one of the reasons most people bought their GameCube's, and it's worth every penny.
