Yes my sweet Van does have a true love and alas it is not I. In case you are slow it is Hitomi. But Van and Hitomi do not really realize they truly love each other until the last volume of The Vision of Escaflowne. I am analyzing their relationship through the series but I am not doing it exactly in the order it was presented in the series. I’m just too lazy to do it that way. So you can e-mail me calling me lazy and so on but I say meh. Oh yea THIS CONTAINS SPOILERS!! SO BE WARNED THERE ARE SPOILERS IN HERE…SO DON’T SEND ME EMAILS ABOUT NOT WARNING YOU BECAUSE I AM WARNING YOU NOW!!! At first Van does not really have any sort of romantic feelings towards Hitomi, and Hitomi feels the same way. Van just thinks of her as a problem and promises to bring her back home. But something happens and Hitomi is unable to return home. As the series progresses the two become friends. And Hitomi ends up saving Van a few times, but then Van ends up saving her a couple of times so it evens out. Hitomi soon learns Van’s secret (he’s a draconian, descendant of Atlantis which gives him beautiful wings). Van learns that Hitomi is has some power, she is able to see the unseen. Hitomi helps Van see the invisible melfs. He ends up depending on her power to fight. After he asks her to teach him how to see the unseen he knows how to see the unseen (wow don’t I use a variety of words). They end up getting closer and knowing each other better. Van also gets Hitomi angry and he gets a couple of slaps…hehe. He deserved some of those slaps too. There are people who get in the way of Van and Hitomi getting together, but I’ll go through that in the next paragraph. Much later on in the series she goes with Van back to Fanelia. After they return Hitomi gets frustrated and returns back to the Mystic Moon. On the mystic moon the day she left is repeated. Then she realizes after her best friend Yukari gives her some advice. Hitomi then realizes that she does love Van. Back in Gaea Van is lying on the roof when Merle comes and asks him if he was thinking about Hitomi. He says no but Merle knows the truth. She tells him that he loves Hitomi and Hitomi loves him. Back on earth Van is calling her by his feathers…. she sees them but they disappear when she touches them. Hitomi goes to the track thingee where she first met Van and runs again, but this time Van comes down in his Escaflowne and she hugs him ^_^. Then he tells her I’ll never let you go ^_^. Van blushes of course when she hugs him ^_^. They go back to Gaea and some solider dudes ask Van to fight with them. He says yes and tells them to bring Hitomi back to Asturia. A pillar of light brings Hitomi to Dornkirk's place, and then the fate alteration machine is activated. Hitomi then sees everyone fighting against each other, including Van and Allen (cheers GO VAN GO) she starts saying stop Van. Then there this weird little mind thing where Hitomi tells Van to stop fighting, but he doesn’t listen and Hitomi think why doesn’t he understand me. Then Hitomi realizes that her emotions for Van bind him. They bind him because she really loves Van. Then she tells Van that she was sorry and that she was the one who didn’t understand. Van was about to kick Allen’s ass but he stops and Allen tells him to go to Hitomi. He takes the Escaflowne and heads to Dornkirks place. He breaks through the machine and grabs Hitomi and they fly away happily. Van and Hitomi are out in the forest in Fanelia, and Hitomi tells Van that she wants to stay with him, BUT he says that’s ok since our thoughts can reach each other. Hitomi then gives him her pendant and another pillar of light sends her back to earth. She stays on Earth…OKAY I REALLY WANTED THEM TO BE TOGETHER SO THEY CAN HAVE LITTLE VAN’S AND HITOMI’S!! The ending made me cry :*(…… The Bad People Now for the people who interfered with Van and Hitomi getting together. First off there is Allen. Hitomi thought she loved him…but thankfully she realized that she didn’t love him. Hitomi had a crush on Allen for most of the series, but when he kissed her she realized she didn’t. L VAN SAW THEM KISSING!!!! HE LOOKED SO SAD!!! He ran off. Allen I say was the main factor in Van and Hitomi not getting together. The romantic stuff in Escaflowne doesn’t really happen until the around the middle of the series. Allen also proposed to Hitomi *glares* she accepted but then she left…MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. When she left she realized that Van was the one she really loved. When Van came back with Hitomi, Allen told Hitomi that his love brang her back and she felt the same way. So Allen told her that it was the first time any woman declined his advances. GO HITOMI GO! The other bad people were Folken and Eriya (I think it was her) they altered fate so that Hitomi and Allen would kiss. Well when they kissed they were role-playing, Folken was Allen and Eriya was Hitomi. Well it was actually Dornkirk who made sure they would not get together. DAMN HIM! Well those really are the main people who got in the way of Van and Hitomi getting together. -The Van Obsessed SQUEE Return
