"The Unkown Soldiers"

PROLOGUE
Have you ever wondered...
Who were the guardians of love and justice before Sailor Moon discovered her identity?
Did the forces of evil simply decide to take a break while the earth was at its most vulnerable and Sailor Moon wasn't even born yet?
What about that gap, between the destruction of the moon kingdom and now? When earth moved on and forgot about its devestated neighboring world.
Was the earth, the only surviving planet and jewel of the Sol system, simply left to fend for itself?
Or were there others?...

CHAPTER ONE
Kira stood atop some nameless building. It was tall as far as the buildings in this city went, but she didn't care about that. All that she cared about was the spectacular view of the moon. It had risen early that evening and shone a deep red until clibming highter into the blue velvet sky. Now it eminated a soft silver glow.

She shivered, whether it was from the cool autumn air or the memories that looking at the moon evoked, she wasn't sure. It seemed to her like only yesterday the moon kingdom had been destroyed... yes, she had been there, and witnessed all of the horror from afar.

Queen Serenity had known what was to come. She had also known that it could not be stopped. Thats why she had summoned the four most elusive scouts. The members of her court who she only called upon when no alternative could be found.

These scouts represented the planet Pluto, the North Star, the comet known today as Hailey's, and the scout representing our very own sun.

They all had been given a duty. Pluto was to guard the gate of time, to ensure there would be no threat from the past or future. The other three; North Star, Comet and Sun; were to protect the earth and its inhabitants. Protect it until the princess and her court took their places as its protectors. Then they would fade into the background, hopefully, never to be needed again.

Kira sighed. She knew that time was soon approaching. The princess had been born tonight. She could just feel it. Now their duty was not only to protect the earth, but to protect her as well. Yet, she was to have no knowledge of their existance. She was to have a normal, happy, childhood until the guardian came for her.

Her thoughts were abruptly interrupted by the soft flapping of wings. Kira moved her eyes from their gaze on the moon to peer at the ledge of the building. There, a white owl was perched, its green eyes staring at her questioningly.

"Oh, it's only you, Polaris." She spoke softly.

The owl 'whood' quietly then flew from its perch to land on the shoulder of a girl with light blue hair and eyes much resembling the owls.

"North Star... I'm not suprised to see you here. You must know as well then."

The girl nodded, some of her short hair falling over her eyes.

"Yes, I have felt it also... I expect Comet to join us shortly."

"And Pluto?" Kira asked.

North Star shook her head. "No, she cannot leave the gate. The risk is far too great, especially now."

Kira sighed and brushed a lock of orangish-gold hair from her shoulder. "Yes, I suppose you're right."

"She's right about everything!" Came a snicker from the shadows.

Kira's golden eyes peered into the darkness and slowly a figure emerged.

"Ah, Comet, late as usual I see." North Star commented.

"Oh hush, we can't all be as perfect as you." She retaliated mockingly.

Kira rolled her eyes "You'd never guess that you two had helped to save the world a time or two."

North Star smiled. "Aww, but you love us anyway, Kira."

"And I must be completely insane for doing so." Kira replied before her expression turned to one of seriousness.

"You know why we are here?"

Comet nodded. "Yes, the princess."

"Very well then. Transform and we can be off."

North Star and Comet nodded together. "Right."

North Star was first. She raised her hand high into the air and called, "Noth Star Planetary Power!" Her eyes closed and the pale green star symbol on her forehead began to glow. Green and blue mist swirled about her. When it cleared, only a moment later, there stood Sailor North Star, owl staff in hand.

Comet was next, throwing her right hand out to the side and calling, "Comet Orbital Power!" The flaming circle symbol on her forehead also began to glow brightly a silverish-white color. Droplets of water and ice formed about her. Then, just as quickly as they came, they were gone, leaving only Sailor Comet with her staff of ice.

Last was Kira, the Solar Sailor. She raised both hands toward the night sky, crossing her arms at the wrists. "Solar Star Power!" The mark on her forehead, a heart within a heart, glowed with a golden light. Then there was a flash of white light, like that from an explosion, making the night seem like mid-day. Then there was only the Solar Sailor holding the gold and jeweled sun staff firmly in hand.

Comet blinked a few times. "I always forget to bring my sunglasses when you do that."

Kira shook her head. "Let's get going..."
