Movie Reviews for November 2001

Here I post Reviews of Anime films and short series that I have seen. Be patient, That's a lot of typing. :)


I Review Three Films per Month and give you a generally good idea of whether or not it's worth your time to drive to Hastings, or Blockbuster or Best Buy at 11pm in the rain. The summary is self-explanatory, unless you can't read, but then I guess you wouldn't be surfing the net then. The Good explains all the main highlights or "reasons to watch" and the bad, not. The Ugly is a gore factor, or messiness of the film, a kind of rating of whether or not you shoud have that pizza and beer with the film. My rating system is based on the oh so familiar drama masks. There are 5 per each film. The more happy, the better the movie. All sad, don't waste your time.

Summary: This film is about a girl who is, i guess, the last vampire and she's working with somebody to kill these things tha are trying to kill people. yeah, thats' all i know. read on.
Good: The animation, superb computer and hand painted graphics blended together, is the ONLY thing i saw cool with this film. The main character was kinda kick ass but she lacked in personality. I'll get to that in a sec. Also the setting was original, an american air force base in Japan. This lent to the bilingual movie setting that was pretty interesting (once i realized my PS2 wasn't broken).
Bad: Okay, with all of that, they could have spent a little, no ALOT, more time on the plot. this movie desn't even have an ending. I'm not talking a Kite or lain ending here, it' doesn't really end. It's abrubpt and with no conclusion of any kind. Just someone mumbling that they don't know what just haopened. NEITHER DO I!!! They never introduce the characters, they're just vague impressions of people with even more vacant personalities. Why should i care if someone dies or gets injured when i don't even know who the hell they are?
Ugly: Lots of blood and killing. it's a killing spree with gory, violent deaths. woo hoo! now if only i knew WHY they were dying...

Rating:

Summary: Okay, there's this guy, Amon, and he lives in a place that appears to be overrun w/ death and destruction caused by some freak w/ a giant pet turtle. Amon's mother was murdered and now he seeks to get revenge from "freaky turtle guy". Seriously.
Good: The art is great but that's of course due to Amano (the animator and character designer for the Final Fantasy game series. Also, the story is kinda cute and sad.
Bad: The plot is lacking. It's a really generic fantasy plot. like the people who destroyed the Dragon Lance series, it relies too heavily on cheesy cliches and bad dialogue.
Ugly: Some cool fight sequences at the beginning of the movie and a pretty cool ending leave lots of bloodstains and bodies in their wake.

Summary: Okay, if you have seen the series Neon Genesis Evangelion, you must buy this. Do not stop at episode 26 or you will never know what really happened. Trust me. If you never see End of Eva, Death and Rebirth... your head is likely to explode. -_^ This is the ending. The true ending. You MUST see it. I won't give away anymore.
Good: IT'S THE END OF EVA!!! No really, it's mindblowing. I can't believe how many sites i found online that show the series ending w/ 26 episodes. This is not some fan fic, some made up alter ego movie. It's what really happens in the manga. Consider this a public service announcement. ^_^
Bad: Some scenes are not ummmm... good. *mumble mumble* I don't want to ruin it for you. Okay, some things are repeated (in Death and Rebirth)to drive them into yor skull so i guess that can get annoying.
Ugly: Lots of blood, violence, sex and tortured dementia. But that's Eva. -_^
