Vegeta is the prince of the Saiyajins and is one of the last two full blooded Saiyajins known to have survived the destruction of Vegetasei. He was raised in Frieza's captivity most of his life as a slave.
Vegeta is introduced into the series early in the Saiyajin/Vegeta saga of DragonballZ. At the time of his introduction, he is a planet purger, carelessly destroying civilizations upon planets for profit.
Vegeta learns of the dragonballs and its power and aspires to collect them to make the wish of immortality. He encounters several snags along the way, and never manages to make his wish. Although starting as an enemy to the Z fighters, he slowly but eventually joins their side. He settles down on earth and hooks up with Bulma and they have two children together.
Although Vegeta never surpasses Goku in power any long period of time, he does achieve the power of the Super Saiyajin and ascends that level during his life, becoming the second most powerful being in the universe.
