Stuff you'll need to know
1. Where/When: This takes place in 02, but features the characters from 01 mainly. It's also a crossover with my original "novel" of sorts, the Neo Gemstone Guardians. There are 8 guardians, each having their own element: Holy, Darkness, Light, Fire, Wind, Thunder, Earth and Water. They're 17, thrust into a surreal cause to stop a Sorcerer from taking form and blanketing the world in darkness. Still with me?
2. Plot: There is no plot! XD Just kidding. The Sorcerer's spirit is trapped within a dark crystal that an unknowing boy, Dustin Unger wears around his neck, and Jigokise is planning to use his sudden outlet into the Digital world to fuel his power. Dustin convinces the Digimon Kaiser to join him in this cause. The rest...well...you'll see for yourself.
3. Who: The Gemstone Guardians and their elements. They have gemstone necklaces in the shape of a particular animal.
Holy (Ruby Cobra): Ruby Morgan, with platinum blonde hair with red highlights. Headstrong and the leader of this group, Ruby always takes charge.
Darkness (onyx panther): Sasha Janre, black hair, mocha skin and blonde, face-framing bangs. Voice of reason and sarcasm, but a violent temper when provoked.
Light (diamond wolf): Rick Janre, Sasha's twin, looks exactly like her but shorter, spikier hair and a doofy, yet lovable personality.
Fire (jade horse): Skye Hatheway, 18, long blonde hair to her knees, a personality like ice and a model's body.
Wind (sapphire dragon): Phoenix Lavender, a mysterious youth from LA with pale blonde hair to his waist, a section covering his amethyst eyes dyed silver, and a tortured soul.
Earth (emerald tiger): Leo Hilcrest, heir to the Hilcrest's vast fortune, and Leo DiCaprio twin (think Titanic). DiCaprio is actually his cousin, but Leo does not wish to discuss that.
Thunder (fire opal eagle): Alec Thatcher, renowned smart-ass and pretty-boy, Alec enjoys staying in the background, despite everyone's love of his Swedish accent.
Water (opal leopard): Reime Olsen, the undisputed bringer of perpetual happiness. Always the one to cheer up a sad soul, she has a love of the colour yellow.
That's about as basic as my information will get. Their personalities will become more apparent as the story progresses. Ready? Here we go! ^_~
Chapter 1
He didn't like having so much time to himself. It gave him too much time to think...to let his mind wander. Made him ponder those unanswerable questions--where am I going? What am I doing? Am I doing the right thing? Why aren't I doing anything? He hated when he got like that. He hated not having an answer to those questions. In a way, he wished it were a few years ago, when they were all questing to save the world. When things were unexpected, grand and dangerous.
...When he had a purpose.
They were thrown together in such a weird cause, a surreal one, in a world that was no where near their own with strange creatures, Digimon, that became their closest friends. They defined who they were and fought destiny in that world. All of them, they showed they had more than one side to them, that they weren't stereotypical pawns. It was a great achievement for being so young.
But what now? He found himself pondering that a lot. The world was safe, or at least, there were new chosen to save the world. It was time for them to go through what they had, to find themselves in that world. Yet...he couldn't help but wish he were there with them, fighting that fight. Helping a cause that was greater than himself. Doing those things that songwriters and novelists always wrote about.
...And this would be why he hated having so much spare time, and nothing to do it in. He got so...philosophical, so...pathetic. There was no way he'd be able to go back to that life, he passed on the torch...with a lingering feeling to snatch it back. Pushing himself off of the bed, he felt around his neck for the tag, and its blue crest. He was caught in a flashback now, remembering when he found the crest, in a well. Koushiro had been with him, finding his crest of Knowledge.
Those, were the days, he decided, fingering the Crest of Friendship. If only this crest could warp him back. He'd be the happiest teenager alive. "But I can't go back," he muttered, looking out the window where night coveted the city's landscape.
His phone rang, and he pushed himself fully off the bed, and grabbed the cordless. "Hello?" he asked, his voice sounding gravely, tired.
"Yamato?" It was Taichi.
"What the hell do you want? Do you know how late it is?" Yamato demanded. Taichi offered something vaguely related to an apology. "...What do you want?"
"I wanted to ask you something...would you consider coming back to the digital world with the old crew?" Taichi questioned.
Yamato had to pause, before blurting out the obvious 'Hell yes!' Of course he wanted to go, then again, he wondered if Taichi was just pulling his leg. "You know the answer to that. Why are you asking this?"
There was a pause on the other end, and Yamato could just see Taichi's grin. "Hikari wanted to take us in there, since it's been a long time and they've liberated quite a few areas from the Kaiser's Dark Spires. I thought it'd be good for some nostalgia."
The blond chuckled, Taichi's enthusiasm was contagious. "Alright, count me in. Where does this little shindig go down?"
"Tomorrow afternoon, at my house. We're having a huge party ... that's what I told my parents since they're going out for a few days...and away we go!" Taichi explained.
"Alright, I'll see you then. And if you ever call my house this late again, you're going to be eating your phone the next time I see you," Yamato said, promptly hanging up. He couldn't help but feel excited, though. Running a hand through his grown out hair, Yamato trudged back to his bed. "And now...to sleep."
[Next Day]
It was a strong feeling of nostalgia as Yamato walked into Taichi's house, seeing the multitude of shoes there, and he could easily pick out Sora's, Mimi's, Jyou's, Koushiro's, Taichi's, Hikari's, Takeru's and now his own. "Wow, this is like a reunion," Yamato commented, and the other 7 turned around, big grins on their faces.
"Ah, so the loner returns," Jyou joked, walking over and giving Yamato a hug. "So, are you excited?"
Yamato smirked, and waved a hand. "Let's just get this party started." Jyou laughed, and the crew of the original 8 Digi-Destined meandered into Taichi's room. "Jeez, do you ever clean this pig's sty?"
Hikari giggled. "I've been trying to get him to do that for ages now." Taichi swatted at her and Takeru opened the portal to the Digital World with his Digivice. "Alright, we're ready to go."
[Digital World]
"Ooh, this is like a blast of nostalgia," Mimi gushed, looking around, as the wind played with her pink/red streaked hair. "I wonder where Palmon is?" She smiled wistfully, a look Yamato knew well, he had done that a lot, remembering their past battles. "Ooh, you guys, this is too perfect, do you remember this place?"
Taichi looked around, and gasped in realization. "This is where we first fought as a group! What are the odds of that happening?" He pointed. "That's where we fought Seadramon! And that's where Yamato played his stupid harmonica!"
"My harmonica was not stupid," Yamato defended his old instrument.
"It was just lame," Takeru snickered, dodging a swipe from his other brother. He looked at Hikari. "Do you have the camping stuff?"
"No, I do," Koushiro spoke up, holding up the rather large duffel bag. "Jyou has the other one. It seems to be getting dark here earlier than I would have thought." Sora offered to help them set up the 'beds' as it were, while Takeru, Hikari, Mimi, Taichi and Yamato were remembering with enthusiasm what transpired here.
A dark fog seemed to slither its way around the lake area, confusing the temporary inhabitants. "This isn't natural," Koushiro commented, looking around. "Fog isn't black!" It seemed to chill them, give them that familiar sense of doom...
They were all on the defensive, even if they didn't have their Digimon partners, they would still fight as a group to whatever was surrounding them. Yamato tensed as he heard rustling coming from the forest in front of him. It seemed to be coming from all around them, as if enclosing the group. "What the hell is going on?" Yamato hissed.
Eight figures encompassed them, a year or so older than 6 of the original Digi-destined, wearing strange clothes. One of them, the one that Hikari's crest of light reacted violently with, spoke; her voice firm: "There is great evil upon us. We need your help."
[Kaiser's hideout]
Dustin Unger groaned as he rubbed the back of his neck. That was one hell of a landing. He looked around, seeing the dark hallways. The spirit from the dark crystal that was around his neck spoke to him. He told Dustin to go through the portal opened from his computer. "Where the hell am I...?" He muttered, pushing himself to his feet. He adjusted his oval-shaped glasses and ran a hand through his hair.
"What are you doing here?" An annoyed, very pissed off, sounding voice demanded, and Dustin turned around to see a boy a few years younger than him wearing a very whacked out outfit and who obviously had a losing fight with a bottle of gel. "Well? I demand an answer."
(First, I think I need to teach you how to use hair gel) Dustin thought dryly. "I came to give you a proposition...you are...?"
"I am the Digimon Kaiser," he supplied, seeming bored already. "What could you possible offer me?"
Dustin cleared his throat. He cupped his hands around the dark crystal, which began to emit a dark blue glow. A blast of wind blew past the Kaiser, and swirled around Dustin, who began to grow taller, leaner, his hair turned black and long, his eyes red. He wore the clothes of a feared Sorcerer. "It is not the boy that wishes to give you an offer, it is I," Jigokise answered, looking down at the Kaiser.
The Kaiser gulped, sensing the dark power that flowed through this man's veins. This was no joke. The Kaiser realized that he would have to answer correctly if he valued his life. "What...what...do you wish to talk about sir?"
Jigokise smiled, it wasn't a genuine smile, one of bemusement rather. "My name is Jigokise. Remember it well, Kaiser."
(Hellish Miracle...) The Kaiser thought, biting his lip.
"Please, let us find somewhere to sit, Kaiser. We have much to discuss." Jigokise gestured to the hallways of the Kaiser's palace. He began walking down the hallways, and the Kaiser followed, intrigued and ... scared.
