Agumon
Proving that you really are an idiot if you play with fire
Now, we all know that Taichi's an idiot, right? Or perhaps you're a bit more politically correct, and think of him as "intelligence impaired" or having a "constant lack of pertinent information." But either way you say it, it still comes out as "moron," and there's nothing you can do about that. But Taichi has a few things in his favor, at least: He's cute (and by that I mean he's dead sexy sometimes), he likes everybody's REAL favorite character, whether they know it or not (Yamato), and he's so idiotic that he'll run in and keep whoever-you-think-your-fave-character-is from getting killed without even being smug about it. So he's bearable.
But what does this have to do with Agumon? You see, that's the thing: I doubt you were thinking, "like human like Digi" about ANY of those things, except for the first, and really, who likes their characters to be stupid? It's not the kind of person you're going to seek out if he doesn't have any redeeming traits. And, unfortunately, Agumon is very close to having none. But, that doesn't mean that he's wasted space on the drawing board.
Well, there have to be some good things about Agumon... Okay, here's some: He breathes fire. Not very exciting for people like me, who would prefer water or ice, but at least we can always hope that he'll miss sometime and burn Taichi instead. Or, better yet, Yama's clothes (since he failed so miserably when he tried it on Taichi's). Also, he's got a wonderful Mega form -- WarGreymon. I just love that sarcastic little bad boy. The bad side of it is that he usually reverts to Koromon afterwards... damn. He also has a tendency to use slang in his Champion form ("Are you alright, dude?"), which is entertaining to look out for, to say the least. But that's pretty much as far as it goes for the speaker of the Digimon.
So, what we have here is a moron who isn't cute and doesn't have a particularly stellar personality that goes around taking everybody's proverbial chestnuts off the fire. In other words, this guy would be great as long as he stayed in the background and we didn't have to listen to him. And in 02, that's pretty much exactly what he does, so... victory! Yes! He's reached his perfect station in life! He should feel proud at having found his niche so quickly.
I received some rather interesting emails on why Omnimon looked so evil in the movie. Some thought he was angry about Taichi not caring that he was hurt earlier, some said it was that he really didn't want to be fighting. That'll sure be food for thought for me, if I ever get to see the movie on tape...
