Chapter 2: Memories
Princess Serenity sat by the fountain, watching the water gracefully move in the pattern it was made to do, thinking about her wedding, which was going to held in a week. She was nervous, but happy at the same time. Soon she would be married to her one true love. Duo. Prince of the Earth.
"Serenity." Said a voice she knew all to well. She turned around, to see Duo standing a few feet from her, a hand behind his back.
"Duo." She smiled, getting up, and flinging herself into his arms. "I was wondering when you would come."
"Looks like I came early." He joked.
She giggled, her eyes filled with joy at seeing him.
"I brought you something." He said, taking out a peach colored rose from his hidden hand.
"How lovely." She said in awe, looking at the rose. He handed it to her, she took it and gently inhaled it’s fragrance. It smelled so sweet. "Thank you Duo." Serenity smiled, looking at him.
"Anything for you." Duo returned the smile, taking hold of her hand, leading her back to the palace.
The phone rang, waking Serena up from her dream. Slowly she sat up and rubbed her eyes. "Another dream." She thought, getting up to go answer the phone.
"Why does the phone always have to ring when I’m taking a nap." She wondered as she walked down the stairs, into the living room. The phone continued to ring, until she finally picked it up.
"Hello." She said.
"Hey Serena. Are we still on for a movie tonight?" Said a male voice.
Serena raised her eyebrows at hearing his voice. Somehow it wasn’t the same as it used to be. "Um...... sure Darien. What time?"
"How about seven." He asked.
"Alright. Seven it is." She agreed.
"See you then." Darien responded, then hung up.
"I guess." She said to herself, then placed the phone back on the receiver. Somehow, she wasn’t to thrilled about going out on a date with him at the moment. Usually she would have been jumping up and down right about now, but she wasn’t and she had no idea why.
"So what is the plan?" Luna asked Artemis as they headed for the hotel where Duo was staying at.
"The plan is that one of us has to stay with him at all times." Artemis answered.
"But what about Mina and Serena? We’re supposed to watch over them too you know."
"Yes I know. But this is very important, and we can’t have him going around just yet. And it is not yet time for him to meet Serena or any of the Scouts. We just have to make up and excuse for each other." The white cat pointed out.
"Very well." Luna nodded. "This is indeed a very delicate situation. We have to guild him along to his destiny."
"Not only that, but we have to help him adjust to this time and place." Artemis added, as they continued on their way.
Duo had just awoke from a nap, along with another dream about that girl. He could understand it, all of a sudden he was having weird flash backs, with images of him and that girl. Especially when it came to the dreams, she was the only thing that existed to him, and he would wake up feeling unnerved and shaken. At least now he had an idea of why. Ever since Sailor Pluto and those cats told about who he really was, he clamed down instantly, still he couldn’t believe this was happening. At that moment he heard a scratching at the door, so he got up and answered the door, knowing who it was, he looked down to find both Luna and Artemis standing there.
"Well I was wondering when you would show up." He said, letting them in and closing the door once they entered.
"So what do I owe to this visit?" He asked, sitting on a chair near the window.
"We’ve come to check on you like we said we would." Luna answered.
"So that means I’m being babysited huh?" He joked.
Both cat’s sighed and shook their heads.
"I’m just kidding." Duo shrugged. "Man you can’t even take a joke."
"Are you hungry or anything?" Luna asked, changing the subject.
Duo looked at them thoughtfully. "Come to think of it I am, I haven’t eaten anything since I came here."
"Artemis call room service. " She instructed.
"Sure." What would you like?" He asked Duo.
"Um, anything I guess. You order."
Artemis nodded and jumped up on the bed, moving the phone with his pawn and dialed the hotel’s restaurant number.
Duo watched him, amazed at seeing a cat do stuff like that. He chuckled and looked out the window, seeing a night time Tokyo, with all it’s bright lights. Thinking about his recent dream, Serenity had been a part of it of course. And he couldn’t believe that she was real. Maybe he should try to find her.
"Duo." Luna said, bringing him out of his thoughts.
"Huh." He answered. "What er......."
"Luna, and that is Artemis." She pointed at the white cat with her pawn. "We must have forgotten to introduce ourselves last night." She chuckled.
"Well, I guess you do have a sense of humor." Duo raised an eyebrow, a side grin on his face.
Luna stopped laughing, looking serious again.
"I spoke to soon." Duo chuckled, leaning back into the chair.
"You are the perfect match for her." Luna smiled.
"The perfect what?" Duo arched his eyebrow.
Luna laughed lightly. "Be patient young Prince. You will know everything soon enough."
"If you say so." He sighed, getting up from the chair, continuing to look out the window, thinking about Serenity.
Serena and Darien had just walked out of the theater, both were disappointed with the movie. This time she let him pick it, usually she would have dragged him into another one, and he would have been board with it, but watched it anyway. Tonight she hadn’t really been all that into it, during the movie, she had been thinking about her dream, thinking about Duo. "Is he real?" She wondered, as her and Darien walked down the street.
"So what would you like to do now?" Darien asked her.
"Huh....." She muttered, still in thought.
"I asked you what you would like to do." He repeated, looking at her.
"Oh, I don’t know, you decide." Serena shrugged, clasping her hands infront of her.
"Well, how about we go get some ice cream." Darien smiled.
"Sure." She agreed.
Darien glanced at her, wondering what was on her mind, she wasn’t acting like herself at all. The entire evening, she seemed to be in outer space or something. He couldn’t understand why, usually she would be talking away, and here she was, not saying anything. Somehow this unnerved him.
Quatre and Wufei were sitting in the living room of their base, talking about Duo.
"So where do you think he is?" Quatre asked.
"I don’t know." Wufei answered. "He could be anywhere."
"I wonder what that women meant when she said Prince. Did she mean him?
"It seems that way. After all, she said she came her to retrieve the Prince, and she took him with her. So that must mean him." Wufei shrugged, folding his arms.
"Yes, but Prince of what. Duo never said anything about being royalty." Quatre said, shaking his head.
"There is much we don’t know about him. Especially about his past." Said Wufei.
"Well I just hope he’s alright." Quatre leaned back into the couch, thinking about his teammate.
Duo was trying to figure out to use chopsticks, seated at the table in his room, he looked at the sticks, fiddling around with them. "I never really knew how to use these things." He said, frustrated.
Both cats watched him amused. They watched as he tried to pick up some rice, which ended up falling back into the bowl before he could get it into his mouth. Without thinking, they both started laughing.
Duo looked at them, finding it funny also. "Ha ha, very funny, you should try using these things." He said, grinning.
"We’re cat’s we don’t need them." Luna said, in between laughs.
"Oh yeah." Duo chuckled, trying again to pick up some rice.
"Maybe you should read the instructions." Artemis suggested once he stopped laughing.
Duo shook his head in embarrassment. "Now why didn’t I think of that."
Artemis jumped on the bed, laying down on his stomach, watching Duo read the side of the chopsticks package.
"Oh I see. So you hold it like this, then move it like that." He said, following the instructions, holding the chopsticks the way it was shown. He tried once again, managing to pick up a little bit of rice and finally got it into his mouth.
"Very good." Luna smiled.
"Well, it’s a start, and I might as well learn how to use them if I’m going to be here for a while." Duo replied, picking up some noodles.
Luna nodded, and hopped on to the bed, sitting by Artemis. Allowing Duo to eat privately. She looked at him, glad that he was enjoying his meal, then she turned her attention back to Artemis.
"So which one of us is going to stay here tonight." She whispered.
"I will." Artemis nodded.
"Alright, I will be here in the morning to take the day shift."
"Fine by me." The white cat yawned.
"Hey what are you two cats whispering about over there?" Duo asked, looking at them suspiciously.
"We were just......Uh....." Artemis stammered, trying to think about something to say.
"We were just trying to decide which one of us would take you shopping tomorrow." Luna covered for him.
"Yeah." Artemis grinned.
"Oh." Duo smiled. "Shopping huh? Didn’t know you guys carried money around."
"Actually, Trista has a credit card ready for you, all you have to do is pick it up at the front desk, and sign your name when you purchase something." Luna explained.
"What’s a credit card?" He asked, confused.
"Well, it’s a uh.... you’ll find out tomorrow." Luna answered.
Duo arched his eyebrow, and continued eating.
Heero walked into the living room, where Quatre and Wufei were sitting. He listened as the two talked about Duo’s disappearance. He also wondered what happened to their comrade. But since he had no idea, he didn’t want to make any assumptions. If he could just find out where they went to, he could search for him, but he didn’t even know that. He was just as confused as Quatre and Wufei when it came to thinking about what that women said. Something about a Prince. She must have been talking about him, since she took him with her. Sailor Pluto she called herself.
"Could she work for Oz?" He wondered. She didn’t seem to act like an enemy and what would a women dressed in that kind of get up be doing with a staff. This was very strange. He learned against the wall and crossed his arms, listening to his teammates talk about their missing comrade.
Serena and Darien left the ice cream shop and walked down the street. She had bearly touched her banana split, and he only had a vanilla cone. She also hadn’t said much either. This was starting to really bother him. Serena had been acting very distant tonight. And he wondered why.
"Serena." Darien said, stopping and taking her hand. "Is there anything wrong, you’ve been quite most of the night."
She looked up at him, managing a faint smile. "I just have a lot on my mind, that’s all."
Darien smiled. "Well maybe you should try not thinking about it and enjoy yourself."
"I guess, but I just can’t get it off my mind." Serena looked down.
"Well tell me about." He said, taking both her hands.
"I...well, I can’t really talk about it, it’s these dreams I’ve been having." She sighed.
Darien nodded, not asking any more questions. Instead he titled her chin up and gently kissed her.
She relaxed at first, then all of a suddenly she smelled a sweet fragrance that caused her to pull away. "The peach rose." She thought.
Darien looked at her confused. "What is it?"
She looked at him, tears forming in her eyes, letting go of his hands and turned away. "I’m sorry. I have to go." She said, and ran as fast as her legs would carry her. Feeling sad and confused.
