Hanging By A Moment - *Andie*
Breathe
A songfic to the song 'Breathe' By Nickelback
By: Andie

Two men
They started walking
Started talking bout better days
One says to the other
We do it all again
Seems I knew I would

"Man its been awhile hasn’t it?” Yamato asked as he and Jyou walked down the street. “Yeah...” Jyou agreed. “If you could would you do it all again?” Yamato inquired. “Do what again?” Jyou asked. “Going to the Digital World,” Yamato replied. “Yeah I would do it all over again,” Jyou said. “Me too. We had the greatest times there eh Jyou? Even though you were a little geeky then,” Yamato joked. “Yeah I guess...” Jyou said. Yeah I just loved you competing to be leader with Tai, and picking on me all the time. It was just great. Jyou thought sarcastically. “We did have some good times though,” Jyou said sincerely as they stopped and sat down on a park bench.

And now I found it
Found I got it
I didn't want this
Somebody help me see
Now I feel it
Feel like I've been there
I didn't need this
Somebody help me breathe
Here we are again
Just face to facing
Each other another day
Who wins
Well who cares
It always ends up the same
Seems I knew I would

"So how’s the doctor thing working out?” Yamato asked. “Alright I guess. Its not what I expected. How’s the band thing going?” Jyou asked stretching his legs out. “Not bad. We’ve gotten some pretty good gigs, but no contract yet,” Yamato said putting his hands behind his head. “So not liking the doctor biz eh?” he asked turning his head to look at his tall, blue-haired friend. His friend who was no longer the scrawny little geek he teased and ordered around most of the time in the Digi-world. Now he was a tall good looking doctor, who he admired. I wish I hadn’t lost touch with Jyou. I miss the talks we have. Even if sometimes I did tease you. I’ve always liked you. “Yamato are you even listening to me?” Jyou asked when he noticed the distant look in Yamato’s eyes. “Oh I’m sorry Jyou. I was just thinking,” Yamato apologized. “Please go on,” Yamato urged. “I was saying how the doctor thing wasn’t really working out for me. I’m thinking of ending it,” Jyou summarized.

And now I found it
Found I got it
I didn't want this
Somebody help me see
And now I feel it
Feel that I've been there
I didn't need this
Would Somebody help me stand
And now I've told them
Already warned them
I didn't want this
Somebody help me breathe

If I was them
Then I wanna be
What I see
If I could drag my life in a moment
Wanna know do you want me to go
Gonna keep it all from ending
Never stop myself from pretending
That you always knew that I never could

"Oh really? That’s too bad,” Yamato said sympathetically. “Oh well. No biggie,” Jyou said stuffing his hands in his jacket. Why can’t you stop pretending. I know you always thought I never could do it. “Well I better go. I’ve got to get some rest. I’m working the late shift tonight in the ER,” Jyou said standing up. “Oh okay. Well I’ll talk to you later then,” Yamato said hiding his disappointment. “Yeah, bye Yamato,” Jyou said as he turned in the opposite direction and walked away. “Bye Jyou,” Yamato shouted. Good old reliable Jyou. Always thinking ahead. What a great guy. I wish I could bring myself to tell him how sorry I am, and how much he means to me. You know something I’m going to do just that. I’m going to tell Jyou everything! Yamato, full of determination, got up and headed straight for Jyou’s apartment.

All I ever really wanted was to be the same
Equal treatment never ever comes
and there they go again
All I ever really wanted was to be like you
So perfect
So worthless
If i could take it all back think again
I would

And now I found it
Found I got it
I didn't want this
Somebody help me see

Jyou held his coat tight around him as he walked across the street, and towards his home. I didn’t want to go Yamato, but you just make me so frustrated sometimes. All I really wanted from you was to be treated as your equal, but then again sometimes I just wanted to be like you. Tai always saw you as so perfect, and yet so worthless all at the same time. Well I’ve got the worthless part down. Jyou sighed deeply as he threw his keys on the counter, and hung up his jacket. “Well no more,” Jyou said bitterly to himself. Jyou walked into the bathroom, and opened his medicine cabinet. From there he pulled several bottles of his many medicines for his many health problems, and from each bottle he poured three or four pills. Jyou took the pills in his hand, and walked into his bedroom. There he sat on his bed beside his night stand, and popped the pills two at a time into his mouth. After swallowing all the pills Jyou lay down on his bed quietly, waiting for the mixed toxins to kick in. Soon enough Jyou started coughing, and aching with pain as he lay in bed dying. I didn’t want this. Couldn’t somebody help me see?

Now I feel it
Feel that I've been there
I didn't need this
Somebody help me stand
And now I've told them
I didn't want this
I didn't need this
Would somebody help me breathe
Would somebody help me breathe
Would somebody help me?

Yamato reached the top of the stairs, and stopping in front of Jyou’s apartment he knocked. No answer came, and after trying a few times Yamato gave up and walked back down the stairs. Wait I know. I’ll call him. Maybe he just didn’t hear me. Yamato thought as he got out his cell phone and dialled Jyou’s phone number. ‘Ring, Ring’ Who’d be calling me now? Weakly, Jyou reached for the phone with hope in his eyes. He didn’t really want to die, he knew that. He just didn’t want to live the way he was anymore. “Jyou? Hello?” Yamato asked into the phone when it stopped ringing. There was no answer, only shallow, struggling breaths. “Jyou?” Yamato asked confused. “Yama. Help,” Jyou whispered before he passed out and dropped the phone. Not getting any answer from Jyou anymore Yamato ran up to Jyou’s apartment. Painfully, Yamato broke down Jyou’s locked door, and ran inside his apartment. Frantically, Yamato searched Jyou’s apartment. Then finding him sprawled on his bed barely breathing, Yamato rushed to him and dropped to his knees beside him as tears ran down his face. “Jyou wake up. Please wake up,” Yamato cried desperately. Reaching out Yamato held Jyou’s cold, lifeless hand. “ Why didn’t you say something? We’ve all been there before. Jyou please wake up,” Yamato pleaded shaking him slightly. Suddenly Yamato felt his hand being squeezed gently. Yamato looked up to see Jyou’s eyes looking back at him. Yamato tried to stand, but was unable to so he just knelt there staring deep into Jyou’s eyes. “I didn’t want this. I didn’t need this,” Jyou whispered as he struggled to breathe. “Jyou I’m going to get you help. Please just throw up the pills for me,” Yamato pleaded. Jyou just lay there, coughing, and straining to breathe. “Jyou please. I don’t want to lose you. I love you,” Yamato said looking deeply in Jyou’s eyes. “You love me? But?” Jyou started. “I know. I’m sorry about all that. But I love you Jyou. I always have,” Yamato said squeezing Jyou’s hand. “I love you too,” Jyou said as tears streamed down his face to match Yamato’s tear streaked face. Smiling Yamato leaned over and gently kissed Jyou lovingly. As Yamato broke the kiss Jyou whispered into his ear. “I’m sorry. I’ll always love you.” Then Jyou closed his eyes, and fell cold. “Jyou no. Please I love you. Don’t leave me! Jyou!” Yamato cried holding Jyou’s hand still as Jyou lay there lifeless. “Somebody help me. Please somebody help me,” Yamato screamed hysterically. Gasping for air as more tears flooded his eyes Yamato weakly got to his feet, and stumbled his way into the bathroom. There he found the bottles of pills Jyou had took. He grabbed the bottles one by one and swallowed as many of the pills as he could. Then, faltering, he made his way back to Jyou’s bedroom where he lay down on the bed beside him, and wrapped his arm around his beloved. “I love you Jyou,” Yamato whispered before closing his eyes forever.
