Episode 9

“Death Planet Empower!” Hotaru yelled, and instantly, black and purple ribbons of energy wrapped around her, creating her skirt and top. As the energy faded, it came together, forming bows. Hotaru stretched out her hand, and the Silence Glaive appeared in her hand. Energy glowed around the blade, forming a purple aura around Sailor Pluto. On her forehead, the sign of Pluto glowed brightly. Boots also were created and Hotaru stood in fighting stance, ready to attack. Dena’s legs started to transform, his lower body extending and turning into that of a horse’s. “Death Chain Constrict!” Dena swiftly jumped high in the air, the attack completely missing him. Hotaru glared at him and got ready for another attack. “Silver Crystal Moon Power!” “Love Planet Empower!” Usagi and Minako transformed into Sailor Moon and Sailor Venus. “What?” Dena looked around, confused. He had no idea that the killers were a group, not a single assassin. “Ugh...whatever.” He blasted the ground beneath Sailor Pluto, causing debris and chinks of cement to fly into the air. Hotaru was pelted by cement and pebbles as she coughed and tried to move out of the way. “Love Kiss Whirl!” Minako spun around and blew kisses at Dena, who nimbly dodged. “Crystal Heart Elimination!” Sailor Moon attacked. Dena was hit, but he still remained standing. “What?! He’s barely affected!” Sailor Moon looked stunned. Usually her Crystal Heart Elimination would kill or at least dangerously injure her enemies. Unexpectedly, a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky at Dena. “Why didn’t you tell me there was a battle?” Makoto smiled at Usagi, Minako and Hotaru. Ami followed close behind her. “I was wondering why you guys weren’t coming inside!” She grinned, then turned back to Dena. Ami also faced Dena as well. “Ice Shards Shatter!” Sharp pieces of ice flew towards Dena, and punctured his skin, but he casually plucked out each one. Although a small trickle of blood was visible, Dena did not seem to notice. “Why aren’t our attacks working?” Ami panicked. She put down her visor to scan the enemy, but could not find any great weakness or strength. “Girls!!!” Guardian came running out the front door. “Huh?” Every head turned. “What’s this?” He asked when he saw the large centaur on their front lawn. A wicked smile appeared on Dena’s lips as he saw his small, helpless target. Putting out his hand, he hit Guardian with a blast of energy. Guardian flew, tumbled, and landed beside a bush. “Aaaahh! Guardian!!” Usagi screamed. “No time for that, Usagi.” Hotaru said blankly. “But...” “He’s not dead.” Hotaru did not even look at Usagi as she spoke. Usagi felt her cheeks flush red as she said, “Fine.” She looked beside her at the senshi around her and nodded. “Crystal Heart Elimination!” “Love Kiss Whirl!” “Death Chain Constrict!” “Thunderbolt Electrify!” “Ice Shards Shatter!” From all directions, attacks rushed towards the centaur. Not able to dodge, he stood peacefully in the same position as he was bombarded with different elements. Still, he endured the combined attack. He seemed a bit shaken, but that was the most. “We’re not powerful enough!” Usagi yelled amidst the noise. “Ultimate Moon Diamond Power!” Sailor Moon yelled. She had never used this form before, it was never even introduced to her, but she knew she had to experience it now, or die. In her hand, a long silver staff appeared. From it emitted rays of light that shone white. The light splashed all over Usagi, creating gloves, and a silver dress. The emblem on her chest glowed until everything seemed to be drowned out in its light. Everyone stared in awe as they were graced by the presence of the Moon Princess in her ultimate form. “I call upon the Ice Planet, Mercury, for the power of the Ice Sapphire!” Ami shouted. The gem on her tiara lifted out of place, floating in front of her head. Beams shot out from it, and light engulfed her. Her outfit also turned into a dress, long and billowy, with a large ribbon flowing behind her. Amidst the light, the planet Mercury could be seen in the distance. “I call upon the Love Planet, Venus, for the power of the Love Topaz!” Yellow energy circled around Sailor Venus as her Planetary Gem also floated in the air. The tiara disappeared, and the Topaz fused in between her collarbones. From it radiated light that surrounded her completely. Her skirt elongated, and became tinted orange. She also had snow white gloves that came up to her elbows. Sailor Venus opened her eyes and smiled. “I call upon the Thunder Planet, Jupiter, for the power of the Thunder Emerald!” Green energy flashed and shot out in all directions. It swallowed up Sailor Jupiter until only a mass of light could be seen where she used to stand. Her emerald shined bright green, and in the center of the mass of light, a flash of green could be seen. Her skirt now extended down to her ankles, covering her feet. Her arms were covered with white gloves and her tiara was no longer there. The light faded and revealed Sailor Jupiter. An image of the planet Jupiter lingered behind her. “I call upon my home planet’s ultimate power, the Fate of Hades!” The sign of Pluto glowed on Hotaru, and she was submerged in black light. Her Glaive twirled in the air and landed in Hotaru’s hand as she transformed. Her skirt stayed short, and her sleeves were stained a dark purple. She had gloves that were purple also, and her hair shimmered in the reflection of the Silence Glaive. “Mercury Lyre Ice Symphony!” A harp made of ice appeared in Sailor Mercury’s hands, and as she plucked the strings melodiously, liquid ice streamed from the strings. The ice twisted and turned until it reached its destination. Dena flew backwards and hit the side of Usagi’s house. “Io Tree Disintegration!” Sailor Jupiter looked up towards the sky, and thunderbolts came up from the ground and down from the sky, meeting where Dena stood. He became weak and fell. “Underworld...” Hotaru put her Glaive in from of her, vertically and called for the power of the dead. Spirits came out from the ground all over the world, and came to Hotaru’s calling. “Destruction!” She pointed her Glaive at Dena, and the ghosts and spirits charged at Dena. “Oh no you don’t!” Dena gathered a massive ball of energy and blasted away at the spirits coming at him. They did not falter, and kept going at him. He directed an attack at Hotaru, and she put her face to the ground before the attack could reach her. The huge ball of energy hit Makoto instead, and she gasped for air as she was engulfed in the dark energy. She suddenly became limp and breathless. The ball disintegrated and Sailor Jupiter lay on the lawn, motionless. “Damn it!!” Minako yelled. “Emotion Beam!” Fluid yellow energy came at Dena in the form of a large beam of yellow light from the sun. The centaur writhed and choked as he fell to the ground in a huge lump. Another battle and another senshi gone. Sliding a peaceful glance at Makoto, Usagi dismissed the death from her mind. She then picked up her cat who lay in a slump by her feet. “Guardian, are you alright??” Usagi petted his head and carried him indoors. Detransforming, the senshi solemnly walked inside. They looked at each other helplessly. Usagi sat on the kitchen floor, tending to her cat while Minako stared out the window. Ami and Hotaru seemed blank and speechless. The sight was pathetic compared to the grand Sailor Senshi of just a few weeks ago. The senshi had always used friendship and teamwork as their greatest strength and best asset. But what happens when more than half of them are gone? Where was the friendship and teamwork when there were only four out of the nine senshi left? The tasks ahead seemed impossible. They had defeated Dena with their ultimate powers, and when they thought of the upcoming enemies, they could feel their hearts sinking into their stomachs. Obviously the next Solitaire would be stronger and more powerful than the previous one. It had been like that all along. “What about the next brother? Can I defeat him? What if I have to be all alone when I do fight him?” Usagi thought as she continued to pet her cat. “Am I the next one? What if I am? Am I ready to die? I’m only eighteen...People aren’t meant to die at eighteen...” Minako rested her chin on her hand. “Why are we so helpless? No, Ami! Don’t think like that. We aren’t helpless, it’s our destiny! But why are we so helpless to our destiny? I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything in this world. But if my job was to protect Earth, I guess I did accomplish my task. But that was only my task as a sailor senshi. What about my task as a human? As a person?” Ami’s blue eyes almost teared. Hotaru sat on the couch, staring in front of her, beyond the couch that stood before her. “Destiny is destiny. Accept it Hotaru...accept it. But...WHY? What if...this is NOT our destiny? Maybe we were really meant to live...or maybe...when we are destroyed, something else becomes of us... Who knows?” “You’re alive!!!!” Usagi broke the silence with a mind shattering announcement. “Guardian! You’re OK!” Ami ran towards the dark blue cat. “Sorry to worry you, girls. Just a minor injury, nothing big.” Guardian smiled. “Are you sure? That looks like a pretty big cut to me...” Minako looked at the back of Guardian’s neck, where a long gash was present. “Oh, I’m fine. This cat’s been through a lot more than just a few scratches from a branch.” He laughed roughly. “Oh, really?” Minako rose an eyebrow. The dreary atmosphere was lifted, and the senshi were joking around in no time. “So nice to see everyone happy...I don’t think I’ve seen that for a while...” Usagi thought before she engaged in the conversation with a hearty laugh.
