The Kagetai HomeName: Kisei ( Hake Takehashi )Date of Birth: Year of Our Lord 1861 Height: 6' 3" Weight: 189 Appearance: A tall individual garbed in loose fitting black garb, a heavy hood and attached scarf hiding all but emerald eyes. Kusari-gama rest strapped to either side of him with their chain tethers tucked neatly away in pouches well hidden. A single kodachi ( Kitsune-Gari ) is waiting in it's sheathed position on his back. Also, it can be noted that he is missing the pinky on his left hand, thanks to his training to learn his style of fighting. Background Info: Hake Takehashi was born in the small town of Kirin. His parents were loyalists of the Tokugawa era and as such were subsequently ousted from the political position his father held within the town itself as the area was loyal to the Ishin Shishi. Seeing such disgrace, his father subsequently went mad, slaughtering his wife and seriously wounding his son with the set of kusari-gama handed through the Takehashi Family before turning the blades upon himself. Hake was found the following morning by house servants who were themselves just waking up to start the new day of duties for their master Seijiro Takehashi. Hake was barely alive, suffering from massive bloodloss and several broken bones inflicted by the devastating blows his father set upon both he and his mother, who's headless body lay only a few feet from him, still ever reaching to protect her son, even in death. Hake spent two years after that recovering. His body healed over time, but the damage done to his throat was so severe that Hake's vocal cords would not mend, leaving Hake mute for the rest of his life. Having no real way to interact with the outside world, Hake turned deeply introversive, and began studying the ways of the mind and body themselves, perfecting his art little by little to pass the time. Hake went through his adolescence as a time of intense training and learning simply to exist, to in short be the loudest voice in his own soundless world. Hake's technique is called SHIZUKA-NA OOMIZU, which literally means "silent flood". The technique is so named because of Hikame's particular method of using both kodachi and kusari-gama effectively in battle simultaneously, whereas the more proficient fighter would have great difficulty, seeing as the kusari-gama themselves require two hands to use, let alone using a sword with them. Hake's training and utter concentration of his mind allowed him to use his weight and dexterity to accurately place his hands where they needed to be at what time, thus putting him in the proper positions to balance the kodachi in one hand, while throwing and retrieving the kusari gama and their chain tethers with the other, always having a blade in each hand while one was in flight , throwing the enemy on the defensive for a good portion of the battle while Hake would move in with his kodachi and un-paried kusari-gama in hand. The attack technique is called " oomizu no ha" or blade-flood. The kusari-gama he carries are in fact the very same that took his voice and his parent’s life, giving them special symbolism, and in most peoples eyes making Hake out to be a psychopath, when this could be no further from the truth. Hake's mind is sharp, a life in silence proved useful, and Hake's mind is one of the most severe in concentration, making him a tough advisory to intimidate, confuse, or trick. The Kodachi he carries is called "Kitsune-Gari" which means "fox hunt", and was fashioned by his own hands, another talent he picked up in the quest to keep his mind and body occupied. The people who encountered Hake were so off-put by his silence and utter refusal to show his entire face that they gave him the surname of "Kisei" another word for Death, though no one had actually seen him fight save for his opponents, those of which who lived normally were so wounded that they lost their voices, or were so muddled in their injuries that no one could make out what they were saying. Kisei has been beaten numerous times, especially by brigands of the Oniwa-Banshu, but for reasons unknown he is still alive to this very day, and can usually be seen in areas of populace being watched by one of the Oniwa-Banshu's scouts. He came into service of the Kagetai after hearing of the swordsmanship of Saitoh Hajime, and seeing this as a new challenge to occupy his ever eager mind. From here only time will tell what path Kisei chooses. Personality: Having no voice leaves persons who meet Kisei unable to gauge what personality he may or may not have. This is further complicated by the fact he keeps his face covered save for his eyes, which seem to display nothing but a great sadness. He replies to any questions as simply yes, no, or pointing in general if he has to. Otherwise, he makes no movement when addressed, no comment afterwards. Orders given to him are merely carried out rather than agreed upon before execution. Likes, Dislikes: Kisei is known to have an utter loathing of child abuse, and men who boast. He also has an deep hatred for politicians, though he never makes moves against them...unless asked to. Kisei is also know in times of recreation to be seen near lakes or rivers, either meditating or training, it seems that his budo is his favorite pastime. Rivals: As yet unnamed members of the Oniwa Banshu, but this is yet to be verified. Current Info: Kisei is currently in Tokyo, but as for his place of residence and aforementioned info, nothing can be ascertained. He is called upon by leaving a note for him near the outskirts of the city, in the location of the Kosurugi House for Orphans. |
