The Kagetai Home

Name: Kadokura Hiro
Birthdate: April 4, 1850
Height: 5'11
Weight: 160 lbs.

Appearance:

Hiro possesses a certain ageless beauty and grace. He would be quite feminine, if it wasn't for his broad shoulders and slender, muscular frame. He has long, black, almost blue hair that flows past his shoulder blades, and the indescribable eyes of a hitokiri. He dresses in a black police uniform, not the usual blue.

Background:

Born on the 5th day of April in the year 1850, Hiro grew up in a rich household, a well off samurai, famous for his swordsmanship. He taught Hiro all the techniques of his school, and Hiro showed incredible skill, surpassing even his best students when he was 12. This mastery of combat and conflict brought little inner peace to the boy, however. He dreamt of a great duty and purpose. The boy wanted desperately to live a life with purpose, meaning. Hiro respected and loved his father very much, but he fell ill and died very suddenly. Instead of inheriting the school and living his life in luxury and comfort, he left, and went to Kyoto, changing his name, to fight in the wars breaking out there. His father's loyalty to the Bakufu had rubbed off on Hiro, and he applied for a position in the Shinsengumi. Saito tested him, and the two met for the first time in a flurry of strikes and thrusts, but the match was a draw. Everyone was shocked that a boy could fight so fiercely and skillfully. Thus began the rivalry between two that became the stuff of legends among the upper ranks of the Shinsengumi. Of course, while fate chose to thrust Saito into the eyes of history, it chose to erase Hiro from them. It turned out that Hiro would become a member of the Kagetai, and fight for the peace of Kyoto from the shadows. In the years that followed, Hiro would be tested time and time again, but he had unwavering loyalty to Bushido, and "Aku Soku Zan." To the other members of the Kagetai, he was an enigma, a young boy who fought with passion and fury. Nothing like the always calm, smiling Okita Souji. He appeared old far beyond his years. One night, however, proved to be most significant, when he met another boy, barely older than he, who wielded a sword with the same terrifying fury. The battle lasted only a few minutes, but left the legendary Hitokiri battousai wounded in several places and Hiro with a long, ugly wound on his back. Traumatized, Hiro refused to take orders, and even leave his room. After a few months, he disappeared; not even Saito was able to track him down. The fight had changed something in him, and he knew he couldn't go back to the life of a hitokiri. Lost and bewildered, Hiro wandered for years, being everything from a bum on the street, to a mercenary, hired out to businessmen. It was a difficult time, and he faced many hardships, and much pain. He wandered from place to place, his sanity never staying for very long.

Hiro's wanderings did not come to and end dramatically, but very gradually. He found his way into the employ of Kawaji, and back into a partnership with Saito.

Personality:

Hiro has a complex and layered personality. He often acts quiet and polite, keeping to himself and speaking only when spoken to. However, he hides a sharp tongue and fiendish wit that he doesn't hesitate to use. Inside, as is expected, he contains a storm of rage and pain. He is aware of the power he possesses inside, and is slightly frightened of it. The great irony of Hiro is that he hates fighting and killing, but it is the only thing that sustains his spirit, and gives him a driving force. He and Saito get along well, though it would be presumptuous to call them friends. They are, however, the closest things either of them has to one. He has been contacted by the living Kagetai members, but resists any contact. Some of the members may dislike him, as well, since he is a deserter. He owes them a dept of honor, however, and will come to their aid if it is required.

Likes/Dislikes:

This is a bit of a moot point. Hiro never really gets excited about anything. He takes a certain guilty pleasure in sake and poetry. He's a horrible poet, though. Just terrible.

Rivals:

None, currently.

Current sketch:

Hiro works in the police force, as a spy for Commissioner Kawaji. He has done very little to reconcile his past, and it will inevitably come back to haunt him.
