Julietta

Julietta was the fifth of the Seven Sisters of Hitao. As a young child, she and her two younger sisters were best friends. They had fun together and were almost never apart.

Around the age of eight, Julietta discovered that she had psychic powers. She started going to see Sabrina, her father's astrologer for guidance, because Sabrina also had psychic powers.

Julietta's were very strong. With Sabrina, she began to develop and focis her powers. She also learned the deicate art of spirit preservation (where spirits are put into gems and made to serve humans, kind of as community service, like if they were bad).

By the age of eleven, Julietta didn't need Sabrina anymore. She set up a table in her room with a candle and a crystal balland developed her powers by herself. She enjoyed learning about what she could do, but at this point she still liked to spend time with her sisters.

However, one day, she was particularly involved in her psychic training. Her sisters said they were going sailing on the sea. Would she like to come?

Julietta shook her head. She was too busy.

As they left without her, Julietta had a sharp feeling in her gut. Julietta dismissed it quickly. Whatever it was, her psychic training was more important.

Two hours later, she took a break. The pang of fear she had felt as her sisters left troubled her. What was it?

And almost immediatly, she knew. "Oh, no!" she gasped.

Julietta rushed down the castle steps. The maid was waiting at the door fretfully.

"Am I...too late?" Julietta asked.

Just then, the door burst open. Rain and wind fought to get in as the king and the doctor carried two soaked little girls to the sofa.

Julietta couldn't breathe. Both of her sisters came down with pneumonia. Ariana made a full recovery a week later, but Alana was a lot worse off. She was sick for a very long time and remained weak for the rest of her life.

Julietta blamed herself. After that, she became very withdrawn, focusing most of her time on strengthening her psychic powers. It was the only thing that could make her forget her guilt.

And so it was for the next five years. When Julietta was sixteen, the twins were twenty-one, and the king had decided it was time to give his children their part of the inheritance. So, he had a celebration and invited all the nobles of the land.

Ariana, of course, got the largest continent. Weak little Alana got a very small continent, the Outback. One by one, her sisters chose a continent. Julietta was no where to be found.

Finally, just as the guests were leaving, Julietta appeared. The only continent left was the southern polar ice cap. At that time, it had a climate about like the Yukon on Earth.

Julietta ruled her country like she had done everything else since she was eleven ~ very passively. She seldom left her castle, and hardly anyone ever saw her. For a time, a young man came to see her, but one day he left for good, and Julietta disappeared completely inside one room of the castle.

This is where Julietta's history gets fuzzy. One day, about a year later, Julietta started coming out at night. Then, a week after that, Julietta was seen on her balcony one last time with her hair down. She was up there for about ten minutes. The wind started to blow, and seconds later, a swift but devastating ice storm swept across the continent. Julietta and all of her subjects were trapped forever under a hundred feet of ice.

They say there were no survivors.

Nobody goes down there anymore. The whole continent is a tomb. The monument to Julietta's guilt-ridden life.
