Knights of Hellsing

(Prologue)

Smoking is bad for you

By Nicholaus Kendall

The moon was high in the sky as the stars were shinning high above the Umbrella Corporation’s Europe headquarters. The security around the facility was tight as the grounds were crawling with guards and cameras along with a different array of traps were planted throughout the facility to prevent any unwelcome guests from entering. At first sight the facility would seem like an impenetrable fortress, but there was no such thing as a real impenetrable fortress. There were those who were capable of breaking into the facility, but all they really needed was the proper equipment and a death wish.

For example there was one man who was going to make that attempt for he had what some would simply say that he had the right equipment or…he was completely out of his mind. Near the facility in the sky was a hang guilder that was flying a little too close to the facility. The security teams were beginning to notice it, but before they could shoot it down; a man clad in black riding it jumped away from and he used cloth that was attached to his sides and to his wrists to slow his descent as he landed on the roof of one of the buildings within the facility.

He drew a weapon from a holster that was attached to his leg and he ducked behind a large ventilator as he poked his head out from behind to search area for any guards. The weapon he held in his hand was a M16, but that wasn’t the only weapon this crazy daredevil was armed with. On his back was a home made flame thrower that was made from parts of a small pump, water tank backpacks used for those old super soaker water guns that was filled with gas that was attached to a home made gun created from various metal parts through a hose. Lastly he was also armed with a berretta that was in a holster attached to his side.

The man was dressed in black wearing a black sweat shirt and sweat paints while wearing some light body armor under his clothing and he had some small packs strapped to some areas of his body containing different items and tools for him to use. The man pulled a black head shroud to reveal his face. The intruder had messy brown hair and a familiar British accent.

“Bloody hell there has to be better way to do a break in.” Former police officer Nick Kendall said as he opened up a pack that was strapped to his leg and he pulled out a small computer and a pair of wire cutters. He stealthily crawled along the ground while he carefully did his best to avoid drawing any attention over to a bundle of wires he saw that was attached to a small keypad near a door that led into the building.

He crouched up a little as he used the wire cutters to cut the sheet of the wires without cutting the wires themselves. Once his job was done he opened up a small compartment of his small handheld computer to pull out some wires with attachment clips at their ends. He hooked up his computer to the wires while mumbling “Ok…Chris said that this wire should go here and that one should…got it! Ahhhh! Yeah I got it alright…ow.” Nick said as he shocked himself by accident.

“Ok just like in the movies.” Nick said to himself as he finally succeeded in attaching the wires appropriately he began typing in some commands he learned that from a friend of his. His whole plan for breaking into the Umbrella Corporation’s Europe headquarters was to find some proof of the virus that he learned about at one of Umbrella’s facilities. There was an incident at one such facility which caused death of most of his former late  teammates, as well disappearance of one of his friend. A fact that Nick found out when he woken in a hospital; where he spent two months recovering from the incident.

According to his superiors he was transferred to a new precinct, but after checking around Nick didn’t find his friend Leo anywhere. After getting into a fight with his superior over the matter he was fired from the force. Since then Nick had been looking for any leads that could reveal the full story about what happened at the facility that caused his friend Leo’s disappearance and the death of most of his team. He spent a month searching

A month ago he ran into a friend by the name of Chris who informed him of some of Umbrella’s cover-ups. The two planned along with the aid of another they were break into Umbrella’s Europe Headquarters to find proof that would expose Umbrella for what kind of company they really were. He, Chris and his friend spent a month preparing to break in. Nick would enter through the roof while Chris and his friend used another way.

Nick having successfully opened the door made way down the stairs while he was pressing his back against the way Solid Snake style. When he reached the bottom of the stairs he poked his head from behind corner to look for any sign of guards. Upon seeing that the hallway was completely empty of guards Nick crept across the ground as he moved into an office on his left hand side of the hall. But due to Nick’s his tempering of the wires he shut down all of the security cameras throughout the facility.

He slowly opened the door as he quietly entered the office. Once inside he locked the door as he walked over to a table. There was a small lamp left turned on in the room, so Nick used it to look at a map of the facility as he pulled it out from his pocket. He unrolled it on the table under the light as began looking at it to check where he was at.

“Ok…according to this thing I should be in one of the offices which should mean that a floor below me is where the mainframe for the place should be.” Nick reasoned as he exclaimed the map carefully. He knew if he made a mistake he was as good as screwed. Once he was done viewing the map he rolled it up and put it away. He searched the office for any kind of card keys or anything that would be useful.

He opened the door slowly by a crack so he could look out into the hallway. He noticed one security guard who had his back towards him. He quietly closed the door as he listened for the guard. He heard the sound of keys clanging together as the guard began walking away from him.

“Whew” Nick said with a sound of relief in his voice.

He slowly opened the door again and once he saw that there were no guards he stepped out of the office while hugging the walls. When he reached some stairs he cartwheels down the side obviously copying from metal gear solid video games. He poked his head out from behind the stairwell and he noticed two guards talking to one another as both of them stood outside of a door.

The guards didn’t seem to going anywhere any time soon. Nick needed to get rid of them. He thought about it for a few moments until finally he came up with idea. He pulled a quarter out of his pocket as he threw towards the guards. The guards look down at the quarter and both of them rushed down to pick it up. Nick seized the opportunity to attack them as he pulled out his gun and he hit both guards on the head knocking out both guards in two blows.

Once the guards were down Nick picked up his quarter and he placed it back in his pocket as he looked down on the guards and mocked them by saying “Damn lamely underpaid guards.” He took the card key the guard had as he used it to open the door. Nick stepped into a large room with rows of computer servers all around him. At the heart of the room he found a computer terminal in the corner of the room. He sat down in front of it and he began searching through the database.

Minutes later he found what he is looking for…he found a complete record of the virus they created and it was the same one he and Leo encountered at Umbrella’s lab they visited. “Bloody Hell I got the data. This was easier than I thought.” Nick said proudly to himself, but as if jinxing his situation the alarms started going.

“Oh Bloody damn it!” Nick shouted as he drew his gun and he ran out the door.

Upon entering the hallway he started making his way down the hall back towards the roof, but he saw a group of guards coming down from the stairs. He tried to find a place to hide, but it was too late because they saw him.

“Look an intruder! Lets get him!” a guard shouted.

“Me and my big figgin mouth.” Nick thought as he turn and started running the other way as the guard took up pursuit.

Nick quickly ran down the nearest flight of stairs he could find hoping he could lose them. He dashed into an open room. He closed the door as he checked his gun to make sure that he had a full clip. He laid against the wall as he waited for the guards to come if they could find him, but lucky the guards ran by him missing him completely.

Just as Nick thought it was safe he took a deep breath in relief when suddenly a mouse knocked over a cup that was sitting on a table near by breaking. Nick’s eyes went wide in shock as he heard the guards outside not too far away saying “Hey did you guys hear that?”

“It was probably nothing come on.” A guard said as he and the others ran back down the hall.

“Thank goodness.” Nick said as he walked back a few steps and leaned back again a flat surface of some kind. Suddenly a beeping sound was heard that was soon followed by something opening up. Nick slowly turned around and the next thing he saw looming over him was a Tyrant. Nick went pale as the eyes of the creature were on him.

“Oh…uh…hello. Good bye!” Nick said as he ran out the door screaming with the monster taking up pursuit.

As Nick ran down the hall as he bolted pass the guards and ran like a rabbit down the stairs as the soldiers themselves turned around and saw the Tyrant. The last thing they saw were the claws of the monster coming down on them. As Nick continued rushing down the stairs for dear life it didn’t take the Tyrant long to finish the guards off before continuing its pursuit as he charged down the stairs. Nick ran out into the hall of another floor as he closed the door to the stairwell behind before he continued his mad dash for survival.

A closed door might have slowed down a few guards by a few seconds, but a Tyrant was just one of those monsters that doesn’t use doors. Like an unstoppable locomotive the monster smashed through the door as it continued running after its prey unwilling to give up chase. The monster was closing in on him and Nick thought he was as good as screwed when suddenly he saw a guard thrown into his path. The guard had blood pouring out from its neck as a trio of vampires appeared in the hall.

Nick didn’t stop running out fear of the rampaging monster behind him so he dash past them. The vampires were about to chase after Nick, but the Tyrant had turned its attention on them as it began attacking the vampires, and the vampires began fighting back. Taking advantage of this opportunity Nick escaped by running across a bridge into one of the other buildings. He closed every door he passed behind him then he ran down a flight of stairs and finally into a room where he stopped to catch his breath.

“What the bloody hell is the matter with these limeys for leaving a monster in an unguarded area of all the idiotic things that could happen.” Nick said as he kicked a locker that was next to him. Soon afterwards he heard someone shouting “what was that?”

“It came from the locker room. Lets check it out.” Another voice said.

“You have got to be bloody kidding me!” Nick said with a look of utter surprise on his face.

Nick pulled out his M16 as he aimed it at the door. At the moment the first guard walked in he gunned him down with two shots. Soon two more guards tried to force their way in as Nick also dealt with them as easily as the first one. He gunned down two more as they entered the room, but soon no more guards were walking in so the former cop assumed the worst was over for now.

“At this rate I’ll need more bullets and weapons. If only I can find some.” Nick said as he left the room, but he didn’t bother to search the room which was filled with weapons stored on their racks. Nick walked pass a corner as he ran into a woman with long black hair. The woman had pale skin and two fangs sticking out of her mouth.

“Shit another vampire!” Nick thought as he was about to pull his gun out from his side, but suddenly the lights went off for a few seconds then came back on, but only the vampire was gone. As Nick walked down the hall looking for a way to escape, but as he turned the corner he ran into a group of vampires who had just finished feeding on some guards.

“Not again.” Nick thought as he turned around with a smile and ran like a bat out of hell.

The vampires took up chase as they chased the next item on their menu into the cafeteria. He remembered the flamethrower he had as he grabbed the gun and he aimed it into the hall. He opened fired on the vampires setting them aflame. “Tonight’s special is roast vampire over done.” Nick cracked. Although the flamethrower didn’t kill the vampires, but it gave Nick some time to run behind the cafeteria into the kitchen.

Upon entering the kitchen Nick realized that he had ran into a room with no way out, but through those vampires. Speaking of whom the vampires had entered the cafeteria looking for Nick as one of them said “Come here human. We won’t bite. Not too hard anyways.” Nick knew he was dead if he couldn’t escape. He had to think fast. Then he noticed the shove and near it was a garbage chute. He took off the flamethrower tank from his back and he removed the gun from it as he placed the tank itself near the shove. He turned on the overhead shove as he opened up a gas pipe. Once his bomb was set he saw the vampires about to enter the kitchen so Nick quickly dove into the garbage chute while saying.

“Have a blast fellas.”

The vampires entered the kitchen clueless to what Nick meant, but a second later they saw the tank of gas and the lit shove. Within seconds the kitchen and cafeteria was blown apart along with most of the floor Nick was on. As Nick went down the chute he realized that he had no idea where this was going, but he had other concerns as a large fireball was coming down right behind him.

“Great balls of fire!” Nick screamed, but soon his situation grew worst as he was heading for the incinerator.

Lucky for him a fight between the guards and the vampires was happening and one of the guards fired a small cannon which went into a wall and blew open the chute and caused Nick to fall out into the hall thus avoiding the incinerator, but some flames from above fried some areas of his body.  He sat up after putting himself out as he happily said “I am alive.” Nick started laughing happily, but he stopped and began to cry when he saw a few vampires in the hall in front of him. “I am going to die!” Nick said with a panicked expression.

Nick got up and ran like hell, but before the vampires could chase him parts of the third floor fell down on them burying them alive. The messy brown haired man ran like hell. Whenever if the vampires were still following him or not he didn’t stop to look behind him until he ran out of breath. When he exited the building and took cover behind a large dumpster. Nick had tried himself out so he lay back against a wall to rest for a few moments.

However the wall he was leaning against felt…odd. When the wall began moving he immediately moved away from it and he turned around to see he was leaning on the back of a zombie. Behind that Zombie was a dozen more zombies. “Now this is something I can handle.” Nick thought as he pulled out his M16 and he mowed the lot of them down. Once the last zombie fell to the ground dead…well…dead again anyways Nick moved across the facility while trying to stay behind objects like cars, boxes and etc.

“Oh Bloody Hell!” Nick thought as he saw a large group of vampires across the facility grounds on the far side of the place were attacking attack squad of guards. Lucky for Nick he was too far away from the battle to be noticed since both sides were busy. Nick saw an open gate near him as he made a dash for it. He ran out and closed the door behind him. Once he was out he ran up a hill and into some trees. After he merged from the forest on the other side he found an abandoned car with the doors wide open.

“Please have keys?” Nick thought as he hoped that he could use the car to get away. HE Looked in the car and at that moment he wanted to shout out in praise, but he kept his month shut as he thought “Yes…my luck must be changing!” Nick got in and he turned the keys and the car came to life. With a smile he put the petal to the metal and drove away into the darkness.

“I made it…I can’t believe that I bloody made it out of that hellhole alive!” Nick thought happily as it looked like he was home free.

Suddenly Nick jinxed himself again as someone was hiding in the back seat was waiting for him. The figure rose up from the ground and was about to grab Nick, but luck didn’t abandon the former cop yet because Nick saw someone moving behind him. Nick jerked forward just in time to avoid getting grabbed. Nick pulled out his M16 and unloaded his last clip into the backseat at the figure hiding there.  Nick turned on the lights in the car to get a good look at his attacker. When the lights came on he was horrified to see who it was.

“It's you, you’re that bloody vampire Leo and I ran into four months ago.” Nick exclaimed as he recognized the vampire.

“Yes…I am glad you haven’t forgotten me. I am quite touch, but I haven’t forgotten about you either. Now I shall present you to my master like I was going to four months ago.” The vampire said as it reached out with its arms in an attempt to grab him. In a vain attempt to force him out of the car Nick pull the steering wheel to the left hard as the car suddenly spun out of control as it began hydroplaning across the street as it went across a puddle.

The vampire was slammed into the side of the car as Nick tried to hold himself in place as he pulled out his other weapon the berretta and started shooting the vampire hoping to kill him, but Nick knew perfectly well that his gun won’t be enough to finish him off. Suddenly without any warning the car crashed into a store as Nick was sent flying out of the car through the windshield. Luckily his back took most of punishment as he flew out of the car and then he landed or rather crashed into a large glass display case of a collectables and antique shop.

“Ouch.” Nick said as he tried to get up, but the man had a lot of cuts on his back from the crash. However Nick’s troubles weren’t over yet. The vampire was trying to climb out of the car. Nick scrambled to find something to fight him with because he knew that if he tried running he would as good as dead.

At the moment the vampire jumped out of the car at Nick; the former cop eyed a knife lying on the ground near him. He went to grab it just as the vampire was about to seize his neck. Nick grabbed the blade and he stabbed the vampire in the heart just in time before the vampire had a chance to stink its fangs into Nick’s neck. The vampire suddenly stopped dead in its tracks as it shouted “Sliver!”

Nick ripped the knife out of the vampire’s chest along with most of its insides; then he cut the unholy creature’s throat. The vampire died, but to be sure Nick used the knife to behead the vampire. It took him a short while to use a ten inch antique sliver blade to behead the vampire, but it worked in the end. As the vampire disintegrated into dust Nick picked himself up and he dragged himself out of the shop.

He walked down the street until he came to a small neighborhood hospital. He opened the door and he went inside. Later as the doctor examined him the MD was surprised that someone would come in covered with burns and some better bad cuts. The doctor was so confounded by how Nick had gotten so many burn marks on Nick’s body that he asked Nick “Good grief sir how did you get so badly burned?”

Nick simply answered him by saying “Well I learned that smoking is bad for you the hard way.”

After the doctor fixed up the former cop Nick left the hospital and he returned to the hotel he was staying at. As soon as he walked in and closed the door Nick let out a big sigh of relief as he shouted out in joy. “I did it. I got the proof. With this Umbrella is going down.” Nick was laughing joyfully as he pulled the disc out of his pocket. But his laughing stopped when he saw the condition the disc was in. The disc was partially melted and cracked from what happened. The disc was officially useless.

“Damn it all to hell. I go though all this hell to get this and even more hell to get out of that place alive only to come back with jack! What did I do to deserve this? Can you cut me some damn sack for once?” Nick shouted in frustration as the only proof he had was ruined, but suddenly Nick was hit in the back of the head by someone who appeared behind him. Nick was rendered unconscious as his friend Leo was standing over him.

“Baka” was the last words he heard as unconsciousness claimed him.

The End

For now anyway
