Project Gemini

Step 10: The Enemy

Kari walked over to where her friend sat, huddled in a corner, hugging herself and shaking. She didn't look composed at all. Kari bent down and looked at her Rei's pale face. Her eyes were clouded, her lips were the lightest shade of red she had ever seen, and she had this strange glimmer in her dark blue irises. That had never happened before. Kari put her hand on Rei's shoulder. "Rei…are you okay? You don't look okay?" Rei didn't reply, instead, her head bent low, and she doubled over as if in pain, her hair falling away from her face. Kari's eyes widened and she shook her friend's shoulders, trying to wake her up from whatever she was experiencing. "Rei, Rei, what's wrong with you?" By now, the other digidestined had gathered around her, wondering what had happened. Yet the girl did not reply. T.K. bent down next to her. Kari turned to him. "What are you going to do, T.K.?" He apparently was thinking.

"I think I might have an idea of why she's acting like this." Izzy piped up. Everyone stared at him, he could feel it. He plainly stared back, still looking at the thirteen-year-old girl. "T.K., pull her head up." he said. The younger digidestined stared at him.

"Pull? Why? Won't that hurt her?" he asked.

"Just do it. If my calculations are correct, she would feel no pain inflicted on her at this period of time." Izzy reassured, motioning for T.K. to proceed. He didn't seem so sure, but in the end, he turned to Rei and put his hand above her forehead, where her bangs where, and pulled lightly up. She gave no resistance, and her head snapped back up willingly. Her eyes were closed shut, and she seemed to have difficulty opening them, and since T.K. was pulling her bangs, they could see her forehead clearly. They gasped.

Right in the middle was a blue sign, a character of some sort. Looking closer at the light blue glowing sign, Izzy nodded and rubbed his chin, thinking. T.K. let go, and her head snapped back down. They all looked at him for an explanation. "As you can see, there's a character inscribed on her forehead, and if you've been studying, the sign is the character for 'small', or depending on how you use it, 'young'. I am starting to think that this friend of yours didn't fall into the digiworld by mistake, nor is she acting so strange on her own."

"What do you mean?" Sora asked. The others nodded, agreeing on their confusion.

"Did you remember when Gennai told us about how the Gemini grew in, or as humans?" Izzy asked.

"Do you mean to say that…" Mimi started.

"That she could be one of the Gemini? Precisely. Though I have no evidence, it's a truly reasonable hypothesis. The likelihood of such a matter is fairly high if you consider the surrounding data we have on her."

"Then who is the other?" Matt asked. Izzy shrugged.

"I have no clue, but perhaps this Gemini knows who the other half is." Kari stood up.

"Don't call her that! She's not an it, she's a person too! Call her by her name, she's Rei, even if part of her is the Gemini!" she exclaimed defensively. They all seemed taken back, except for T.K. who was nodding along, but they agreed in response. Rei's head looked up, her eyes wide and seemingly blank. They all stared at her. She focused her vision and looked around, then at herself. Why was she in this position?

Having trouble? A voice inside said.

Yes…how did you know?

Don't try to understand everything about the Gemini. You never will. Just give up, you don't need to anyway. The only thing that's important that you know, is that you are the Gemini, Ran is the Gemini, and you have to find him. You are the key to the digiworld, and you have to be careful not to be destroyed.

This place is bare. What is there to destroy me?

Yes, the digiworld is bare, but Earth isn't. Do you think that resurrecting the whole digiworld would be as simple as that? The evil…the evil Gennai mentioned about… the evil that caused the wars in the first place. Do you think they would give up that easily? Think again. They found out about the Gemini, and that's why the battles kept on getting closer and closer to Gennai's house. Their plan was to destroy him, taking away his chance of creating me, therefore destroying me in the process. They were not digimon.

Then…what were they?

They were…life forms, similar to me.

Similar, in what way?

There were two twins as well. Two of them. I believe that when we were sent to Earth, they came as well. And when we were born in you, they were born in two humans also. Yet we are not evil, and they are. They have made who ever they have chosen evil as well.

So you're saying that the two humans they chose aren't necessarily evil?

Yes. The evil probably chose those two because they had some ability the evil needed.

But if they are the enemies, we have to destroy them.

Do you really? Think that out for yourself, Rei-sama.

Rei-sama, why call me that?

It seems right, doesn't it? You are the only reason I am here. Without you, there is no me. Do you forbid me to call you that?

I…don't know…

Then I will call you that. Go back to consciousness now, Rei-sama. Your friends are waiting.

Rei snapped out of her trance, and stared into the expecting faces of eight digidestined. They were all looking at her…expressions of shock and worry on their faces. She cocked her head and unwrapped her arms from around her. "What are you all looking at?"

Step 11: Observation of the Amoral Gemini

Kou felt someone shaking him by his shoulder, desperately trying to wake him… again. Without looking, he told his tormenter to let go. "SHUN! I'm sleeping here!" The hands backed away, and there came no reply. The elder thirteen-year-old felt a pang of guilt in his chest and opened one eye, looking up to the left. There stood a mirror reflection of him, his younger twin. The same sandy hair, slightly parted at one side, the same gray eyes, and the same blue band around his forehead. Kou rolled over to face him. "What do you want, Shun?" The other looked up, worry inscribed on his face.

"Last night, I had the same dream again, Kou! I dreamt about that scary-looking barren place without anyone living there, and I dreamt about the eight people, two that were our age, that went there to save them. Then there were these twins, just like us, and they were here to save them too. And these twins had some special name, and they were the keys to doing it, or something like that. I don't understand them, it seems so complicated. Do you?" Shun spat out in one breath. Kou blinked at him, and rolled over again.

"I think you've had too much…TV, yeah that's it. Too much of it. I didn't understand a word you said." Shun pushed him and crossed his arms.

"I haven't been watching any TV lately! You know that as well as I do. You know, people say that if you've had a repeating dream a lot of times, it could be like a fortune telling, and that could happen in your future…" Kou rolled over, smirking.

"Since when did you believe those 'people'?"

"Aniki! Maybe it will happen?"

Kou nodded, and tried to get back to sleep. "Whatever you say." Shun started to get angry, and jumped on his elder twin, tickling him. "Mercy, mercy!" Kou screamed between bursts of laughter.

"Not until you believe me!"

"Never!" Kou replied, and his younger twin continued his torture. After a while, Kou was out of breath, and his stomach hurt too much, not to give up. "Okay! I surrender, I believe you!" he yelled, immediately, his brother jumped off, hands on his hips.

"Now wasn't that easier?"

"No." Kou muttered under his breath, as he walked into the bathroom to brush up. After a few minutes, he walked back out, rubbing his hair with a towel, a look of involuntary defeat on his face. He sat on the bed opposite of his brother's and faced him. "Okay, so what if it's gonna come true? We can't do anything about it? I'm sure those people in your dream are gonna help us out." Shun's eyes narrowed and he shook his head slowly.

"I'm not so sure. Every time I saw them, I felt this feeling, like I shouldn't be helping them. Something like…they were are our enemies." Kou cocked his head.

"Really." He said sarcastically. Shun heard it dripping from his voice.

"Aniki, I'm not kidding! All of them were our enemies! Why won't you believe…" his sentence was cut short, as the previously standing Shun toppled over forward, caught by his twin in midair. Kou started to shake him, worry in his eyes.

"Otouto, wake up, what's wrong?" Shun heard the question, but his eyes wouldn't open, and his voice wouldn't come through, as if something was denying it to. Then, a voice inside his head came. A cold and piercing voice.

Step 12: Command of the Amoral

Are you afraid?

"Afraid of what?" At this, Shun was surprised. Where did this voice come from? How was he able to answer?

Afraid, of those eight people who are you enemy, and the barren world they're in?

"So they are our enemy? What have they done wrong?"

Many things.

"Like what?"

They have created troubles in the world I came from, in the barren world they're in. Have you ever heard the phrase, "the criminal will always return to the scene of the crime"?

"So you're saying they made the place that barren?"

Yes. You wouldn't believe how many happy digimon there were.

"Digimon?"

Digital monsters. Remember when you were younger, television reporters talked about monsters in the water, or a giant bug flying in the sky? Or when you were put asleep before you got to meet the evil looking vampire that was inspecting children one by one? How you were hugging on to your aniki, crying as well?

"Yes…I remember that." There was a hint of bitterness in his voice.

Those were digimon, but those were the evil digimon. There were many little and happy digimon on the digiworld, where we came from, but they all were destroyed by those eight people.

"How horrible…"

Horrible indeed, and now they plan to destroy that world, imagine that! So that none of the digimon will ever find a way of being resurrected, taking their chance of living, before they even lived! They were allies with those evil digimon, you know. If you could help it, would you let that happen?

"No!"

You can help.

"How?"

You and your brother will soon be brought to that same world. And the only way you can help those digimon, is by destroying their tormenters, the eight people, and the two twins along with them, especially. Why the two twins? Because they are the masterminds under their whole project.

"Destroy…that means kill."

Yes it does.

"I can't kill anyone! Onii-san has always told me that killing is bad! I believe him, I won't kill!" Nothing replied him, instead, a jolt of pain ran through his body, causing him to wince. Kou held his brother his arms, and felt him seem to jump. Looking at his face, he saw his brother's pained expression. He felt helpless, he couldn't do anything to help. He brushed the tears away from his brother's face, shaking him gently to wake up.

You'll kill.

"Or what?"

Or I'll kill…you…and your aniki.

"You're inside me, how can you touch Kou?"

There is one of me inside him. Just like I can kill you, the other can kill him.

"Who are you? Really? What do you want?"

Me and my other half are the Amoral Gemini. Opposite of the Gemini that are helping the digidestined. We want your bodies. We need them to complete our task.

"The digidestined? Those kids, a long time ago, that saved the world? And then saved the world again? What is your task, how does it relate to them? You were lying to me!"

Yes I was. The digidestined wants to resurrect the digiworld. We must destroy them.

"Why, do you like this…barren place?"

Because evil rules over it. What do you think I am? Pure goodness?

A cruel laugh emitted from his mind. "You can't do that!"

Yes I can.

A bolt of pain shot up his spine, and Shun stiffened his brother's arms. His head snapped up, eyes shut tight, and he yelled out in pain. "Shun!" Kou exclaimed, shaking his brother with more force, but his eyes didn't open.

You have to. Or then I'll have to kill you. After that, I'll move on to more twins, and if they disagree like you do, I'll have to kill them. You could be the reason for a string of indescribable and unexplainable deaths. It would be like involuntary killing. And you would be killing your aniki as well…think about it, Shun. You know you have no choice. Surrender.

"Do you promise to leave everyone alone after that?"

Yes. Surrender!

"I…I…surrender."

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so what? I kinda used a smaller version of Suboshi and Amiboshi. So? I wanted to use the word "aniki" and "otouto" and I wasn't so sure, so why not be sure and use twin brothers, like them? And while I'm at it, why not borrow some other things? I mean…they're looks aren't that bad either. Oh, don't worry, I won't give Shun (which is short for Suboshi's real name, Shunkaku) a yo-yo weapon. But I will give Kou (which is, I think, short of r Amiboshi's real name, Kou… something) a flute, but no powers. And I will make some plot similarities…^_^ What? I couldn't get them out of my system! I feel so bad for them!!!!!!!!!! Oh yeah, review!
