Step 1: Destruction
The digiworld was in a time of war, war caused by something that everyone had forgotten. The reason was buried under years of fighting and all that mattered now was winning. Even the good digimon forgot what the real reason for the war was, and the battles raged on night and day. Reasoning became a word for weak digimon, which were soon taken care of by the stronger ones. Disaster and chaos wreaked the land, and the most powerful emotion was hate. So many deletions had occurred, so many digimon lost, but still the fighting continued, with no known reason to stop and no significant reason to keep on going.
No one would halt, for if you did, you lost. No one would admit to losing, even if it were their final breath or their final glance at the sorrows and hates of the what the digiworld had become. No one would try to stop the fighting, because all that wanted to were too afraid to do take a stand. No one would stop anything, so the hurt and pain went on. It spread to every corner of the digiworld, enveloping any weak or powerful digimon that the evil could lay hands on. It occurred again and again, over and over, until every single digimon, weak or strong, was engulfed in the battle, whether it was fighting, providing supplies, or spying.
Digimon chose sides, and in the end, there were eight strong armies fighting against each other, each led by their own powerful mega-level digimon general.
This wasn't the digiworld anymore. That's what it used to be. The real digiworld was now hidden under layers of deletions and wrongs. What now replaced it was a battlefield, with no blood. This is the hell that the wars and battles had created.
An old and aged man stood staring at the screen before him, numerous images of suffering and deletion occurring in front of his eyes. A single and solitary tear escaped his eyes and rolled down his wrinkled cheek. He shook his head sadly from side to side. Taking his hand and placing it on top of a large red button, he whispered something to himself.
"Forgive me, Digidestined, for what I am about to do. But trust me, this is for the better. There is just too much suffering and pain in the digiworld now, it is too much for anyone to bear. True, the connection between our world and yours has been severed, but the link can be made again, and if that happens in the middle of the end, then your world will be brought in to destruction as well. I cannot let that happen to you. But there will be a way to revive those that will be saved. There will be a way for you to return the digiworld back to peace. Look for it, Digidestined, look carefully, the fate of my world rests in your young hands. Come back soon, come back very soon to save us. Come back and look for Gemini. Look carefully for Gemini, wherever it may be." He said, before he reluctantly and dutifully pressed the button.
Red lights and sirens flared all over the digiworld, causing the digimon to look up and interrupt their raging battle. Their eyes clouded with sorrow and hate as enemy and comrade alike stood side by side. The fighting had stopped, the end had begun. In the distance, the battling digimon heard the cries of their kind as the digiworld was torn apart and being destroyed, most digimon with it.
From amidst the watching crowd, one digimon of each kind was chosen randomly and was levitated from the grassy battlefield. The others looked on intently as they were enclosed in a white bubble. The bubble started to close in on the chosen digimon, and soon, all that remained of the digimon were digieggs. The other digimon watched as the digieggs were thrown and scattered across the digiworld, not to be seen again for a long time. This process repeated itself again and again, until all the digimon in the world were either destroyed, or preserved. The destruction took all the digimon that the preservation process did not have the chance to take. Now, across the large digiworld, a few digimon of each species lay as a digiegg, waiting until someone would come and hatch them again. But that wouldn't happen for half a decade. So they waited, in silence, for the rescuers to come again, as they did before, to save the digiworld from evil.
Gennai lay on his back in his house, pressing a final button that preserved the data he had saved for the digidestined when they came back. Life was slowly draining out of his body, the color slowly draining out of his skin. For him, the world began to grow cold and dark…darker and darker…until the darkness enclosed him, not to let go again.
The digiworld was gone. Now, all that remained was a barren and death-filled land, where nothing was alive and moving, nothing at all. Everything was cold and bare, dark and silent. Nothing broke the silence, nothing would…until five years later, when the digidestined would come back once again, to look for the Gemini.
Step 2: Birth of the Gemini
"Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Tsukishima. You have a new baby girl and boy." The white-clad doctor said through smiles. He carried one small person his arms, wrapped in light blue cloth, and the nurse near him carried another, wrapped in a light pink blanket. The doctor looked up at the two smiling parents, the mother was wearing a joyful smile on her flushed face, and the father, who was holding her hand by the edge of her bed beamed with pride as he accepted his baby girl from the nurse's arms. The doctor walked up and placed the baby boy in mother's arms. She accepted her son gratefully. The father walked up to the doctor and held out his free hand, beaming.
"Arigato, doctor." He said. The doctor smiled a smile that almost matched the father's and took his hand, nodding.
"You're welcome, Mr. Tsukishima. I am glad to help one more child into this world. I'm sure that you will be very successful parents."
"Thank you again." The mother said weakly, leaning against the back of her bed. The doctor nodded once more and left the room. Two nurses took one baby each and walked out of the room, reassuring the parents that their newborns would be safe. Both nurses walked out of the room as well, and headed towards the room where all newborns were placed before they could leave with their parents, one clad in pink, and the other in blue. Both parents held each other's hands. "What will we name them, dear?" the mother asked, looking up at her husband. He closed his eyes and opened them a moment later.
"You think of the girl's name, I'll think of the boy's." The mother nodded and looked outside the window. The father did the same. No noise was heard until more than fifteen minutes later, when the father smiled and announced his decision. "Ran." The mother looked up.
"Ran. That's a nice name. He will be named Ran. I like Rei. Do you like Rei, dear?" the mother asked, hopefully. The father looked down and smiled, nodding.
"That is a beautiful name."
"Then it will be Ran and Rei."
"Yes." The father said, walking outside for his wife to get some sleep after the many things she had gone through. He looked at another baby, being carried to the parents from the baby room by yet another nurse. He squinted and looked at the baby's identification. It read Ishida Takeru. He stared on as the nurse handed the little baby to his parents. By the couple's side was a little boy, with blond hair and blue eyes, staring and smiling anxiously up to see his little brother. Occasionally, he would pull on his mother's shirt to remind them that he was waiting. The mother would smile down at him and nod, telling him to wait. Mr. Tsukishima smiled and walked down the long hallway, to see his children again.
The Gemini, two glowing orbs of energy, went into the baby room at night, when no one was awake and watching. Entering two bodies next to each other, they placed themselves in the babies' bodies. Immediately, a series of events took place inside both newborns' bodies. Instead of flesh, was metal, pure and cold. Instead of blood, was the metal liquid, mercury, and instead of a heart, was a circuit that provide the Gemini with enough information and data for them to operate the human or now-machine bodies normally - the Human Chip.
Static electricity started to crackle around both bodies. The Gemini were born, as they were to be. First as humans, then as the vital key to restoring the digiworld.
The Gemini were born. Rei and Ran Tsukishima.
Step 3: Observation of the Gemini
A silent girl with light turquoise hair walked down the street in her school uniform, holding her books to her chest. She looked down at the pavement as she headed towards her home. Looking up, she smiled and closed her eyes, letting the breeze blow her short hair back, and her uniform dress against her legs. By her side, a new figure stepped up, holding his books at his side. The girl's blue eyes found their way to look at her companion and she smiled. A boy stood next to her, with dark blue hair, and dark blue eyes open that would not close. Rei put her hand on her brother's cheek to tell him that she was there. Ran turned to her, his eyes still open and unmoving. "I thought it was you, Rei. Why didn't you wait for me?" Rei opened her mouth, but nothing came out, and she closed it abruptly. Taking her brother's hand, she wrote some letters on his palm. "You forgot? That's funny. Lead me home, please." Ran said, smiling. Rei took his free hand, and walked down the street to their house, books in her other hand. Halfway down the street, Rei stopped, looked at two people her age, sitting near each other on the bench in a park. Rei smiled. Ran turned his head towards her. "What do you see, Rei?" Rei took his hand and wrote more words on it. Ran smiled. "Wave hi to them for me, I don't know where they are." Rei nodded, and let go of her brother's hand. She walked up to the park fence, and put her hand through one of the holds, and poked her classmate on her shoulder. Hikari turned around quickly and smiled. Takeru did too. Rei smiled back and waved before walking in to the park in front of the two.
"What are you doing here, Rei? Shouldn't you be leading Ran back right now?" Hikari asked, quickly inching away from Takeru. Rei smiled and took Hikari's hand and quickly started to write on her palm. After writing a few words, Hikari pulled her hand away and blushed, inching further away from Takeru. Rei turned to the other digidestined and smiled. Takeru just stared on, completely confused.
"Where's your brother?" Takeru asked. Rei pointed to Ran, leaning against a wall, arms crossed and waiting, staring emptily into the sky. Takeru nodded. "Oh." Rei quickly walked out of the park, waving goodbye. She crossed the street and took her brother's hand again. Ran smiled.
"You asked her if she liked Takeru?" Ran asked, surprised. Rei nodded and at the same time, wrote "yes" on her brother's palm. "Rei! You probably embarrassed her to death!" Rei giggled and continued walking home, leading Ran at the same time. When they finally walked through the door, their mother quickly came up to her two thirteen-year-old twins and smiled. Rubbing her hands on her apron, she spoke.
"How was your day?" she asked, like any other mother would.
"Fine, the usual, right Rei?" Ran answered. His sister nodded, being she couldn't respond with her voice. Their mother returned to the kitchen, wiping a tear away from her eyes before Rei could see. They had been so overjoyed when those two were born, and wished that both of them would live full and happy lives…but the day that Ran lost his sight and Rei lost her voice, those dreams were shattered. Both of them made the best of it, and they did everything they could normally, but it wasn't the same. Rei stood still in the hallway, staring at the wetness on her mother's hand. Ran turned to her and whispered. "Is she crying again, Rei?" Rei replied on his hand. Ran's eyes clouded, though he couldn't see through them. Rei quickly walked up the stairs into her room, and Ran went into his. Both of them left their books on the table.
Step 4: Beckon from the Digiworld
Tai Kamiya waited, leaning against the doorway for his sister to return. Yamato Ishida, or Matt, also stood a distance away waiting for his brother to come back. The other four digidestined sat in the leader's living room, doing their own activity to keep them from becoming too bored. Koushiro Izumi, or Izzy, sat on the couch, typing away at his pineapple laptop, reading and re-reading the email that had just been sent to him from the digiworld for his and the other digidestined's eyes only. Sora Takenouchi sat next to her best friend, Mimi Tachikawa, who had just arrived in Japan, waiting anxiously and looking around. Jyou Kido, or Joe, sat on a chair near the window, looking out and as always, fretting and complaining silently to himself. Sora stood up and walked over to her boyfriend. Putting a hand on his shoulder, she reassured him. "It's okay, Tai. I'm sure Kari will be back soon, with Takeru too." Tai turned to her and nodded, his worried expression fading off his face. Matt looked up and shrugged, closing his eyes again, and waited some more.
"Yeah, Matt. Sora's right. Just cool down, I'm sure they'll be here any second." Mimi said, receiving agreeing nods from the other digidestined. Matt shrugged again. Soon, two voices were heard outside, laughing and talking. The door opened, revealing a surprised Kari and Takeru on the other side.
"What are you guys doing here? Did something bad happen?" Takeru asked, behind his friend, who nodded. Tai and Matt suppressed their urge to yell and sat both their younger siblings down in the living room, before placing themselves in their own chair. Tai, being the leader, explained everything.
"Okay, guys. Izzy just got an email from Gennai." He said sadly. "It happens that…it happens that…"
"That what, Tai?" Matt asked, getting impatient.
"That Gennai is dead." The other digidestined, except for Izzy, who already knew, gasped, and the girls' eyes started to water. Tai put his hand on Sora and Kari's shoulder. "Izzy got the email yesterday, it had been sent five years ago, but it took that long just to get here because of the cut connection between our worlds. It was his last words to us before he was deleted." A silence soon followed, before Tai reluctantly continued. "It gets worse." They all looked up at Tai, except for Izzy, who was still staring in disbelief at his laptop screen.
"That story could get worse?" Joe asked. Tai nodded.
"The digiworld has been destroyed."
"Does that mean…" Mimi started, not wanting to continue. Tai answered.
"Yes…our digimon too. Unless…"
"Unless what?" Takeru asked, eyes wide and shocked.
"Unless they are one of the chosen digimon. You see, one or a couple of each kind of digimon were preserved as digieggs, but only a few. Most of them were deleted."
"And what if they're not one of those chosen ones?" Kari asked. Tai stared at her, and lowered his head.
"Then…they're gone." Kari burst into tears, and Takeru put his hand on her shoulder, trying not to break into tears too. Mimi covered her face with her hands, and Matt and Joe looked down. Even Izzy stopped typing and let a tear escape from his eyes, which he quickly wiped away. Tai bit his lip before continuing. "You don't have to cry just yet."
"What do you mean?" Joe asked.
"They might still have a hope."
"What hope?" Sora asked.
"Gennai said we had to look for something called a Gemini. And that the Gemini could restore the digiworld to what it was."'
"And what if we can't?" Matt asked.
"Then you can really cry." All was silent and no one dared to speak, until Tai stood up. "But we're going to look for this Gemini anyway, it's the digiworld and our digimon's only hope! We have to go back to the digiworld! Who's with me?" All their hands shot up.
"I am." they all said at once. Tai nodded.
"But we have no idea what or where or how to find this Gemini!" Matt said. Everyone nodded. Izzy spoke up.
"That might no be true. There's an attachment that Gennai sent us…I'd be it would be a clue as to how to solve the mystery of this Gemini." They all nodded. "I'm going to try to open it…prodigious, it worked!" Izzy said as he pressed enter on his keyboard. Immediately, another message sprung up on the screen and Izzy read it out loud. "Dear Digidestined, in order to find the Gemini, you will have to return to the digiworld to seek out clues. My computer does not have enough strength to send you anymore than this because of the destruction. In my home, I will explain everything, just look…." Static followed. "for the tape…for the clues…good…good…lu…luck…digi….digidestined." All of the eight digidestined looked at the laptop screen, which had gone completely blank, shocked and speechless.
