Gene Starwind is a great male model of sweet behavior. He thinks big, one step at a time, and usually has two things on his mind. His current goal, and the P-Nons! (What a role model ^_^) This whole series is about the crazy right after the next adventures that Gene, and his strange round-about crew get themselves into. There is alittle romance saga between Gene, and the mysterious girl Melfina, as well as an overlaying mystery about the unknown Galactic Layline. It's oldschool Anime space Greatness, with an allstar cast of comedy, as well as suspence.
Even tho Outlaw star is a reletively new anime, the animation doesn't really show it. Like Most other's, it suffers from what I like to call "bordom animation". "bordom animation", is when the animators show there lack of careing during certain episodes, and the characters just look a lot crappier than normal. A good Example of this is the samurai character Sazuka who can either look gorgeous, or like she was just smashed in the face with a brick. (You'll know what I mean.) But the good news is that it all shapes up by the end of the series, where everyone is very much detailed.
One of the finer points of the series is he great cast of characters. I've allready mentioned why Gene Starwind is such a sweet character. There's Gene's little partner Jim Hawking who is a boy genious, and at the same time, an annoying little kid. There were times that he was allright, an episode where he falls for this one girl comes to mind. Next there is the cat girl Aisha, and the samurai girl Sazuka, who are great adds to the show. And lastly Is the strange but lovely Melfina, who follows the classic role for an anime girl ... Man says jump, Melfina asks how high, and wears a skirt during the whole duration. Ahhh anime girls ...
I think this show covers just about every genre of music. From the rock opening, to the sweet vocaled endings, to everything inbetween. "Through the Night" is a song that grows on you, as for the 2 ending themes, well there really isn't any need to get into detail becuase you can make your own favorable review when you hear them. (I love them!) This series also has great sound effects on its side, with gunshots so crisp and so clear. And lastly is the great voice acting. Each character has a great voice which is very suitible for his/her personality. All of this goes very well with its counterparts.
When Outlaw Star isn't making you laugh, you'll probably be being entertained by the fast paced action scenes which go anywhere from crazy shootouts, to swordfights, to some really nice looking spaceship grappler fights. Bassically spaceships with arms, without going into detail. All this action, met with great characters, and a pretty good oldschool anime storyline, and you should fairly entertained with this one.
