Yumegari Part: 1/1 By: Loralei Fairhill okies, folks. i have NO idea what this has to do with the other Dreamhunter i wrote, but both stories have the narrator speaking to the same character. and both have the same title (Yumegari means Dreamhunter in Japanese). nothing else to say, so enjoy! Yumegari = dreamhunter Genso no Megami = goddess of illusion this story is STRICTLY mine, and i claim all rights to Genso no Megami and all the original ideas in this fic. steal her or them, and Gawen kicks your a**! ^^; A golden sliver of moon hangs alongside the stars tonight. Can you see it, yumegari? Do you feel how it calls to me, beckons me to dance in the gorgeous heavens among the celestial bodies? Sometimes I think that this world is unreal. That the butterfly alighted on that bright yellow flower over there does not really exist; it cannot truly be of this world; its beauty is too great. The colors it possesses are too vibrant, too perfect. Greens, reds, blues offset the meadow, for each butterfly covers its own flower. . . . I see I am not making any sense to you, yumegari. How could I? You do not know such things and never have. I see the disbelief and ignorance reflected in your deep night eyes, and I understand. Truly I do. But I am not resigned! In the forest, there is a pool created by a small trickle of crystal water from a crack in a large mossy boulder. In the depths of the pool, down under the rocks, is the entrance to a cave. An underwater cave without water inside. The walls are covered in quartz, reflecting itself upon its own many surfaces, creating snowflake kaliedoscope patterns on the smooth mirrored stones. Yes, I know you remember that place, yumegari, and am glad of it. Had you not, I would have worried. Since you profess to know it so intimately, pray tell me what I was going to say about it. Silent? Then I shall tell you. Your silence reminds me of your foolishness. Do not mock me, yumegari, for in doing so, you mock yourself. You look so disconcerted. Perhaps I should explain myself further? This cave is the most precious place in all the world for it holds the secret to the heavenly mysteries, the beginning of the knowledge that brings immortality. To be in it just once can give you an extended lifespan, provided that you take care of yourself. To be in it twice will make you almost as long-lived as the people in the time of the biblical forefathers. TO be in it three times, however, brings eternal life. Yes, I have been in it three times. But eternity does not please me. Nothing pleases me anymore. I could hold the world in my hands, such a small thing, like a fragile blue-glass marble, and it would not make me happy. Happiness was in his shining countenance. But I see him no longer, and he doesn't see me; he cannot; he is dead. When he died, all the joy I had ever felt in the world was taken from me. Was he immortal as well? Yes, in a way. But he ended it for himself. Why? The burden was too great to bear. Just imagine waking each day and knowing that you will outlive every single person you've ever known or loved, except your wife. And she can't fathom what mental anguish you feel at the thought of outliving your childhood friends, your family, and possibly even your own children. Do you understand now what I mean? To hunt the dreams is to seek the stars. In holding them you hold my immortality, my existance. I wish you luck on your quest, if finding the beautiful dream is your aim. I could never find the courage to leave this place, much less search for something so elusive that could never bring me hope and love. That is not so for you; when you find it, everything I have lost, yumegari, will become yours. Do not take it for granted as I did, or it will bring your downfall. Guard the secrets I have told you well, for it you loose them, they will destroy you, I promise that. And finally, beware the creatures in the dark mirrors that seek to change your form and distort your intent. The maiden will help you on your way, but be careful which one you choose, for the younger may not be the youngest, and the secrets they hold will complete your journey. "What is my name?" you ask. This I should not tell, but I will. I am Genso no Megami, and what you have seen here never really existed. Yumegari, Elios, wake from this world and continue your search. I shall guide from the stars . . . the stars . . . so beautiful. . . .
