I think that they figured out a way to computerize her genetic code as a virtual humanoid, so they went ahead with designing Lyoko in hopes that they could then oneday bring her back to earth after she was preserved in virtual form. With their plans, they built the scanners and super-calculator, and hid them in the factory to keep them secret, so that they could monitor Lyoko and travel back and forth. Jeremie with his vast knowledge of computers, was able to operate the calculator and talk to Aelita. After they all became friends with her, they didn't want to re-shutdown the super-calculator and leave Aelita behind, so they all learned the ways of Lyoko and XANA and were willing to become warriors against XANA to fend of his evil attacks. This is why Jeremie hopes to one day materialize Aelita, so that she can remain with them, and XANA can be rendered harmless forever.

FUNimation announced that it has been appointed the master licensor and exclusive home video distributor for Code Lyoko, the French animated show getting airtime on Cartoon Network's Miguzi block. Code Lyoko, targeted at 6 to11-year-olds, features both 2D and 3D animation in each episode. Cartoon Network recently ordered a second season of 26 episodes. FUNimation plans a retail release early next year for DVDs and licensed products."

-Aelita returns to the real world by entering "Earth" as the code in one of the towers.
