Son Gohan Son Gohan is the first character shown in Dragonball Z, although it's cut from the dub. He is the first son of Son Gokou, and half Saiya-jin. At the age of 4, Gohan is restricted from training and spends all his time studying because of his extremely over protective mother. Inspite of Gohan's lack of training, his power is incredible and surpasses his fathers greatly. His power level changes frequently and greatly with his emotions. When Gohan is scared when trapped in the space pod by Raditzu, his power level is 710, and when he hears his fathers pain, he goes nuts and his power shoots up over 1000. I think Vegeta put it well in the beginning of the Buu saga, when he said that even though he and Gokou surpassed Gohan, "you never know what this kid can do until he loses his head". Gohan's anger is the main instrument in his incredible power, and most of his power ups are because he is mad at someone or something. Gohan trains with his first mentor, and the person he idolizes and loves for the rest of the series , Piccolo in preparation for the arrival of Vegeta and Nappa. It is during this year of training that Gohan goes Oozaru for the first and second times. When the Saiya-jin arrive, Gohan disappoints Piccolo when he is too scared to get involved. After the time out to wait for Gokou, Gohan regains his confidence. When his teacher Piccolo dies, Gohan flips out and his power gets bigger than ever. Unfortunately, he still isn't strong enough. Gokou returns, and fights Vegeta. When Gohan senses his father getting pounded by oozaru Vegeta, he goes back to help. When Vegeta reverts back to his normal form, Gohan fights him, and since Vegeta is weakened a whole lot, Gohan puts up quite a fight. When Kuririn misses with the Genki-dama, Gohan was there to redirect it. When Vegeta returns, Gohan goes Oozaru by looking at Vegeta's artificial moon, and Vegeta is basically screwed. Gohan gets his tail cut off, but lands on Vegeta, crushing him thus defeating the prince of Saiyajins. Next Gohan goes to Namek to search for the Dragonballs to wish back Piccolo and the others. It is here where Freeza is introduced. Gohan is kind of a loser at the beginning on Namek, but after his power up from Saichorou, and he faces the Ginyu Tokusentai, he gets pretty cool. He shows true courage, and refuses to give up against a much stronger Rikum until his neck is broken, and has absolutley nothing left. He's revived by Gokou with a senzu, and after Gokou beat the hell out of Baata and Rekum, Jeis leaves. Gohan goes and gathers up the Dragonballs, and he and Kulilin form an alliance with Vegeta. Gohan is now wearing the armor of Freeza's men. The fight with Freeza begins, and Gohan doesn't really get involved until Kulilin is impaled, when he goes nuts and beats the hell out of Freeza in his second form. Piccolo returns, and when Freeza in his third form pounds Piccolo, Gohan goes nuts again, and nearly overpowers him, but he does force Freeza to go to his final form. He stops fighting, until Gokou is believed to be dead. He knows the Freeza will want all the saiya-jins dead, and the last thing he wants is Freeza to come to Earth to get him. So Gohan goes to fight, and actually again shows tremendous strength against Freeza form 4 at 75% power, even though he's only trying to stall him so he dies in the explosion.. He forces Freeza to go to his 100% power, and then is ready to die when Gokou returns. Now Gohan trains for three years to fight the androids.He doesn't get involved against the androids. Cell is discovered, and when he becomes perfect, he announces the Cell Game. Gokou and Gohan go into the Room of Spirit and Time, and train their little hearts out. It's here where Gohan goes Super Saiya-jin for the first time. In the manga, Gohan just imagines his Dad or Piccolo getting killed by Cell. But in the anime, it's really cool. In the ROST, Gohan is holding off a Kamehameha from his dad. He starts remembering the times when he couldn't do things on his own. He got angry at himself for always having to rely on others and goes SSJ. When he comes out, he is giving clothes just like Piccolo's. In the 9 days before the Cell game, Gohan and his Dad don't do any training. What they do is stay in SSJ form to get used to it so when they power up they'll be much stronger. When Gokou fights Cell , he realizes he can't win, he volunteers Gohan to fight Cell. Cell wants Gohan to get mad because he wants to fight him at his true, full power. So he beats him up, but when he realizes that Gohan won't get mad at his own pain, Cell creates 7 Cell Juniors, to beat up all the Z senshi. Gohan is really pissed from watching his father and friends get their asses pounded. He has a talk with number 16's head, and when Cell crushes 16, Gohan screams and powers up, becoming Super Saiya-jin level 2. After he easily disposes of the Cell Jrs, he serves Cell his ass on a silver platter. Cell self destructs, and Gokou teleports him to Kaiosama's, killing everyone on Kaiosama's planet. But Cell regenerates himself, comes back to Earth, but Gohan finally really kills him using a huge Kamehameha, with the support of his deceased father. The next time we see Gohan, it is 7 years later, and he is now 16 and attending Orange Star High School. He is under the semi-gay persona of the Great Saiyaman. He had Bulma create him a suit to disguise his identity so he could fight crime in Satan City. He meets Videl, his future wife, and teaches her to fly, and she becomes Great Saiyaman number 2, which just makes things worse, because Videl is a loser. At the Tenkaichi Budokai, Gohan sees his father for the first time since he sacrificed himself at the Cell Game.Kibit has to face Gohan in the first round, and is ordered to go Super Saiyan. He does, and tells him he'll do him one better and go SSJ2. These two ripped, evil looking guys attack, and they drain Gohan's energy. He, his father, Vegeta and Kaioshin head out after them. They go into Babi-di's ship and everyone starts fighting. Gohan fights Darbura, and loses pretty bad. When Buu is released, Gohan fights him first, and Buu tears him a new ass hole. Gohan is now believed to be dead. Kaioshin finds him and Gohan is taken to Kaioshins planet for training with the Zet Sword. After it breaks, Rou Kaioshin is released and gives Gohan a huge, and quite long power upgrade. The upgrade gives him the strength of 6 Super Saiya-jins or SSJ6, it's not really known. But he's really really strong. Mystic Gohan goes to Earth, lays the smack on Buu for a little while, then gets absorbed when he's about to fuse with Gokou, which was probably for the better. He's then rescued by Vegetto, but then dies when the Earth blows up. He's wished back shortly after though, and contributes to the Genkidama that kills Buu. At the end of DBZ and in GT, Gohan fulfills his mother's dream and becomes a scholar. He is basically a complete nerd and has no significant role from here on. He is married to Videl and they have a daughter named Pan. He stops fighting until Bebi comes, when he is forced to. |
