Dear Soi, I was looking at an article in the newspaper earlier today, and it showed this leggy supermodel, all dressed in black, with WAY TOO MUCH eye makeup, who looked like she's walking on a pair of toothpicks. (Yes!! Those were her legs!!) The pants she wore were almost a second skin. I was like, "Geez, give that poor woman a steak!" The kind of beauty standards that our society has placed on women are beyond stupid. The standards are completely out-of-whack!! Why the hell are women under so much pressure to look like these waif-like creatures you'd find in a starving country. (Actually, they probably HAVE starved themselves; that's the sad part.) It's just absolutely moronic. As for Barbie dolls, well, as a friend told me, if Barbie was a real woman, she'd be dead. I'm serious. Dear Ashitare, I'm asking you this question because I know you are arguably the most well-read of the Seiryu Seishi. (Don't tell Nakago I said that.) I also figure you have read the most Shakespeare out of all of them, so I will ask you this: Do you believe the 1996 Leonardo de Caprio movie version of "Romeo and Juliet" was a preservation or a perversion of the original text? I notice they had cut out at leat two crucial scenes in that movie and completely changed the scenery. (Really, Verona BEACH? Tybalt as a silver-toothed COWBOY? Mercucio as a DRAG QUEEN?) Where are standards? In my opinion, they perverted the text with the ridiculous scenery and the cutting of the two critical scenes. Only the soundtrack saved the movie from being a total disaster. (#1 Crush by Garbage is one KILLER song!!) But a great soundtrack alone doesn't cut it, as you know. But like I said, you've probably seen the aforementioned version of "Romeo and Juliet" and the original Olivia Hussey production (which was much, MUCH better as far as I'm concerened.) Dear Lady Shera, Why thank you, my dear. I'm honored to give my opinion. I think that the de Caprio version was a perversion...a cheap way to attempt to cash in on serveral markets at once. (Shakespeare fans and hormone-oozing pre-pubescent girls that couldn't get enough of Leonardo.) While the movie was quite arresting visually, the cut scenes and the complete misrepresentation of some of the characters destroyed its chances of being a decent interpretation. Also, I'm sure the soundtrack is quite nice if you like modern pieces, but I thought the sound balance was off in some places, to the point that it was difficult to hear the actors over the music. Not a good state of affairs. Personally, I would prefer to stick to stage productions, since that is what the plays were written for, after all. Or if they must be made into large budget feature films, I prefer the way Kenneth Branagh does them...more traditional. I'm not completely averse to setting updates, but it's possible to take them a bit too far. (A drag queen...I mean, really!) Ashitare

When I had my semi-human form, it was easier to make myself understood (by typing or speaking) and I didn't have nearly as hard of a time turning the pages of my books. However, the wolf form is nice because I think it really does look better, and I enjoy having a good sense of smell. 2) If you mean dog stuff as in 'Do I lick myself' or 'Do I run around and sniff people's posteriors' then the answer would be a firm no. 3) If such a thing happened, heaven forbid, I would have to make sure to brush using a decently minty toothpaste and floss very carefully. 4) I would have to say it's the people who insist on telling me that I'm not acting properly. Dear Soi, Happy late late late Chinese New Year! I've got love trouble. I've got a crush on the class president, Abraham. The problem is he's always surrounded by girls. I dunno if he's a ladies' man or a girl-chaser, but he's a very nice guy and if you look around at recess, you'll always see him chatting with a girl in a friendly way. I don't know if it's friendship, infatuation, or what. I'm a teeny-weeny bit jealous. My friends all know I have a crush on him, and they've been trying to help me by telling him about my crush on him. Last Valentine's I sent him a musical Valentine (in person; as I have no shame sometimes). He said thanks but that was all. I know he's a bit shy, but won't he notice me for once?
