Character Description: Ichigo Kurosaki is a high school student that becomes a substitute Soul Reaper after absorbing much of Rukia's powers. He intially is unhappy about having to do such, but he eventually comes to accept his fate and is happy to protect those he cares about. Ichigo's name has two translations. He is sometimes called "Strawberry" because the kani for his name means strawberry. However, in a later episode of the series, Ichigo says his name translates to "number one guardian." Ichigo's zanpakuto is very large and bulky in its unawakend formed, but it is not as powerful as the sealed one. This is due to Ichigo's inability to control his spiritual power. Upon training with Urahara, Ichigo is finally able to tap into the spirit of his zanpakuto and awaken his powers as a Soul Reaper. From this point forward, his zanpakuto assumes a released form because of Ichigo's excess of spiritual energy. Its attack is called "Getsuga Tensho" or "Sky-piercing Moon Fang." Ichigo is one of the few Soul Reapers that is not a captain to have achieved his zanpakuto's final release, or bankai. His bankai is called "Tensa Zangetsu." Unlike other bankais, Tensa Zangetsu enhances Ichigo's preexisting abilities. The training Ichigo received from Urahara brought him to the edge of becoming a Hollow. This Hollow only emerges at important times when it is necessary to protect Ichigo's life. It can also emerge when Ichigo's spiritual pressure becomes unstable. Ichigo is constantly concerned with controlling his evil side because he is aware of how dangerous it becomes. |
