Inspiration & Creation

Of all the characters I have created for past RPG's, Jeanne is one of my best. A lot of it may stem from the fact that he's loosely based on Enjolras, a striking character from Victor Hugo's novel, Les Miserables.

What's this Enjolras like you ask? Well, here are some excerpts from Victor Hugo's dynamic novel, Les Miserables:

'Enjolras was a charming young man, who was capable of being intimidating. He was angelically beautiful. He was officiating and militant; from the immediate point of view, a soldier of democracy; above the movement of the time, a priest of the ideal. Like certain young men of the beginning of this century and the end of the last century, he had an exceedingly youthful look. His twenty-two years of age appeared seventeen. He was severe in his pleasures. Before everything but the republic, he chastely dropped his eyes. He was the marble lover of liberty. His speech was roughly inspired and had the tremor of a hymn. He astonished you with his soaring.'

That excerpt was actually much longer, but you get the general idea. Enjolras was a beautiful person, both physically and spiritually. Then it struck me. What would happen if this fine young man were to be corrupted? The result? Jeanne.

If you haven't noticed already, Enjolras and Jeanne share a lot of similar traits. They both carry similar looks, as well as the ability to speak and enthrall you. They also both shared the goal of a perfect utopia, only the latter wanted the literal meaning of the word, which translates to 'nothing.'

What? You want to know about Jeanne's love life and how it relates to Enjolras' own? Well, you'll have to wait on that one.
