Minor Characters
Jhil is the father of Nausicaa, and king of the Valley of Wind. His leadership skills had made all of his kindgom worship him, for he ruled with mercy and dignity and made few enemies. His daughter became a symbol in the Valley--much like he was--shortly before his death.
Yupa is the guide and mentor of Nausicaa, and a close friend of Jhil. He was saved by her, and I think ends up saving her later in the manga. At the current point of the manga I'm at right now (read up to volume 4), he is sort of taking a secondary role. He meets up with Ketcha and Asbel later on, in search of Nausicaa.
Asbel is the son of the Chieftain of Pejitei, in the lands of the Autonomous States of the Periphery. His sister, Rastel, died in the crash of a refugee ship, destroyed by the bugs of the rotwood. Pejitei was attacked by the imperial guards of the Vai Emperor of Tormekia, and were forced to hide in the Rotwood, therefore dishonoring the insects.
