AnimeFest 2001

Hi again! On June 5, 2001, from 1:59 pm to 3:12 pm. the second of the AnimeFest phenomenon occured. This time, we held it at Yukari's house...a brand new huge plavce where we not only had free reign of the basement and the TV's down there, but we also had surround sound. Lucky! ^_^.

Once again, my attempts at organization didn't quite succeed. Orignally, San, Schala, Sora, Kouji, Chihaura, Meiling, Yukari, and I were going to attend, but things didn't quite work out. San called up during the first hour and regretfully backed out because she was incredibly sick, and hopefully she'll recover soon. Schala had to leave pretty early on, and Meiling and Kouji had to leave as well later in the evening because of things they had to do the next day, leaving Sora, Yukari, Chihaura, and I as the core group. Chihaura had to leave early the next morning for an equiation competition, but other than that there weren't too many problems like last time, when one person didn't show, one had to leave after one hour, and another got sick the next day.

As for what we were going to do, my schedule went flying out the window. Originally, San was bringing Fushigi Yuugi Volumes 9-11, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Legend of Basara Volumes 1 and 2, Kouji was bringing the first 3 dubbed tapes of Oh! My Goddess, Sora was bringing a subtitled Sailor Moon video, Yukari would have Pokemon:Revelation Lugia in Japanese, Chihaura was bringing 2 dubbed Ranma 1/2 tapes, and I was bringing Escaflowne Visions 5 and 6 and Card Captor Sakura volumes 1-3. We were also bringing all our mangas to read and all our soundtracks. However, even before the party began, San decided to bring the first volume of Ayashi no Ceres in place of Legend of Basara, and I was adding a volume of Slayers Next to my list. Things got worse. Kouji brought ALL her anime with her because she hadn't gotten my email, I brought along CCS volume 4 and the first movie and Saber Marrionette J-X episodes 6-10, Sora brought along both of her subtitled Sailor Moon movies, and Chihaura only brought one Rannma tape, plus only Yukari and I brought any music. So...we somehow figured it out, and you can read the synopsis below to find out how!

• 1:58-I showed up at Yukari's house first, and very quickly, everyone else followed. Meiling arrived next, then Kouji, then Chihaura, then Schala, and finally Sora. We all sat around and flipped through our anime photo albums and sketchbooks, and Yukari and Kouji argued over who was cuter, Tasuki or Tamahome. I said it didn't matter because Nuriko was cuter than them both, and Schala ended that before it started by reminding us she had to leave in a few hours.
• 2:40-We popped in the Slayers Next tape I brought. Whcih volume, I can't remember, but we all were cracking up during They're Talking About A Girl Named Zelgadis?!?!, cheering when Lina got romantic in The Secret of Giga Slave, and arguing over whether or not Xellos's eyes are cool or creepy during Xellos's Secret Revealed!
• 3:40-Time for the major event of the evening; trying to summon Suzaku! Kouji brought along a copy of the incantation, Sora drew the characters on each of us in red pen, and I double checked the order we stood in on the video. Yukari was Chichiri, Chihaura was Chiriko, Kouji was Tamahome, Schala was Tasuki, Meiling was Hothori (we love her for volunteering!!!), I was Nuriko, and Sora was Miaka. San would've been Mitsukake, but we substituted in Yukari's 6-inch Kojiro figurine instead. We performed the ceremony and burned the incantation, but nothing happened. I still say that Kojiro was the fake.
• 4:10-Schala had to leave, and we popped in Kouji's fansubbed Fushigi Yuugi tapes. We watched about half of Episode 27 before...
• 4:30-...we ran upstairs and ate half the food in the house.
• 5:00-We watched some more of Fushigi Yuugi. We skipped episode 28 because it was just a recap, and watched most of episode 29.
• 5:30-Then we went and ate actual food. Pizza and soda. But it was still good.
• 5:45-We finished watching Fushigi Yuugi. After I went into hysterics during Episode 33 (all the way through his chest...no!!!!! He's not dead, he's still alive, that whole episode was a bad dream...), we decided we'd had enough for the evening. Sometime in here, Meiling also left.
• 7:30-We popped in my birthday present to Yukari, a dubbed Pokemon Volume, Charizard!, and watched Holy Matrimony. Kouji pretty much just drew pictures during that one, and most of us really didn't watch except for Yukari and I.
• 7:50-I insisted in putting in the first volume of Card Captor Sakura. However, none of us really paid attention because we were all too busy watchign Sora draw her picture of the core group at AnimeFest 2001, which right then consisted of Kouji, Chihaura, Yukari, herself, and I. Chihaura also spent a while working on her drawing skills. We stopped the tape after one episode.
• 8:15-we headed upstairs and I made everyone nonalcoholic versions of the Nuriko Special. While we drank them, I explained the plot of Wish to Sora and Yukari spent a long time tricking Chihaura into letting her take pictures of her. Yukari also paraded around in a dress she wore for her final project in AP English and basically we just talked.
• 10:30-Kouji left, and the rest of us stayed upstairs until Yukari's parents told us they were going to bed.
• 11:00-We wend back downstairs to Yukari's room and, for some reason, decided we all really wanted to watch My Little Pony:The Movie. We had some very interesting discussions on what cartoon characters we were like. We decided that from that movie, I was most like Gusty, Yukari as Fizzy, Chihaura was Morning Glory (I think), and Sora was Lickety-Split. We also decided that, from The Land Before Time, I was Little Foot, Sora was Ducky, Yukari was Cera, and Chihaura was Petrie. There was another movie, but I can't remember which.
• 12:30We decided that it would be a lot of fun to do a smash book just like in those stupid YA novels we all used to read when we were younger. Here is what we all wrote.
• 1:10-Don't ask me how this evening turned into a normal sleepover, but next we all decided to play Truth or Dare. It's way too long to write about here, but you can read about it here!
• 3:15-The game went on forever, but then, as you may have read, Sora dared Yukari to either do something really really gross that I can't even write here, put her underwear on her head and start humping everything while acting like a chicken, or lick eithr Chihaura or I from chin to the top of our forehead. That somehow turned into just me, and Yukari kept avoiding it and I got really really upset. I wouldn't say why, so Yukari pulled me out into the living room and demanded I explain. (Now's the part where I *blush* and really really regret the fact that I'm leaving for 8 weeks and won't be able to see her all summer) I explained to her that while I really wasn't sure whether or not I wanted her to be licking my face, it still hurt that she wouldn't even be able to do something like that on a dare for fun and...man, it still sounds stupid, but I basically babbled for a while and then started crying because I didn't want to leave for camp or for her to graduate next year or anything and it turned into an actual Touching Moment when Yukari hugged me and we just sort of sat there for a while with me squeezing her hand and leaning my head on hers and crying and her telling me that I'd cope and everything would be fine, so don't get upset. Awww...*sigh* Don't you hate it when a moment has to end?
• 3:40-Sora and Chihaura got bored with waiting for us and came out to cheer us up. ^_^.
• 3:50-We still weren't tired, so the four of us went back to Yukari's room and brainstormed, to no avail, what we should do next.
• 4:10-Chihaura finally gave up and headed out to the living room to sleep. Sora, Yukari, and I kept talking and still couldn't come up with something to do, so...
• 4:40-...we went to bed. Yukari and I stayed up talking for quite a while aboout lots of stuff. She kept mentioning how she wanted to stay up to see the sun rise, I kept talking about camp, and then I told her like a million times how beautiful she looked right then. We talked about some other, real stuff, too, but we can't remember what.
• 5:30-Yukari fell asleep and I stayed up for a little longer just watching her and then I decided I should sleep, too.
• 8:30 to 9:00-I woke up, then so did Yukari and Chihaura, followed by Sora. A bunch of guys were walking through the basement carrying stuff to set up a sauna in the backyard. Yukari and I laughed about Chihaura's inane sleeptalking that night ("No, I really read that somewhere, I swear? I didn't read anything." And so on until I told her to sleep and she did), and then we started cleaning up a little a getting dressed.
• 9:30-Yukari's youngest sister made us breakfast, so we pigged out.
• 10:00-Chihaura left and the rest of us finished eating.
• 10:20-Sora, Yukari, and I went back downstairs and put in my CCS Complete Vocal Collection to listen to. We read the issues of Animerica that Yukari and Sora had brought and talked about what we read in there for quite a while.
• 11:00-We decided to actually watch Card Captor Sakura, so I rewound the tape to the beginning and we watched the first tape, which had episodes 1-4 on it. Next we did a super fast game of MASH-O with anime guys and anything we wanted on there. See the games here!
• 1:30-Sora and I packed up and we headed upstairs to start loading up my car so I could go home. But when we got outside, we discovered that my car had mysteriously moved from the driveway to being parked sloppily by the sidewalk outside Yukari's house. Nothing in it worked and I called my parents, Toki because she has the same car I do almost exactly, and some other people for ideas on what to do. Sora's father suggested we jump it, but we had no jumper cables, so Sora called one of her guy friends and he came over and jumped my car for me. It started up...whoever moved it last night had turned on the lights and drained the battery.
• 3:10-Disaster averted, Sora got a ride home with her friend after I thanked him. I hugged Yukari and gave a tiny emotional goodbye before getting into my car where I cried for a moment because I wasn't sure if I'd see her agian before I got back from camp. Then I drove off, returned the Slayers Next tape to the store, and went home to sleep.

We did a lot more this AnimeFest than last time! Last time we certainly watched more anime and it really ended up having a theme, but this time we had more of a meeting of the anime club, as Yukari put it, and did a lot more in general. It also went longer than last time, due to the car problems, but we all had a blast. So until next time, Sayonara and Rekka Shinen!
