ECONOMIC SYLLABUS  FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

Textbook: Economics: Principles and Practices, Glencoe 1999

Course Description: This course is a survey course in which students will examine an introduction to Economics and identify major Political and economic theories and systems with other countries and discuss how the systems interact.

After completing the course, the student will be able to:
1. Become familiar with the terms used in Economics and the questions economists try to answer.
2. Understand and analyze the economic problems of society.
3. Understand opportunity costs and evaluate tradeoffs involved in economic decisions.
4. Analyze and evaluate the three basic types of economic systems. Examine the characteristics of the
    various types of economic systems in the world today.
5. Analyze economic growth and the role its plays in the various economic systems.
6. Describe the function of supply, demand, and competition in the market economy.
7. Analyze and evaluate the various forms of business organizations.
8. Evaluate the Federal government’s role in controlling the money supply.
9. Examine labor issues that have occurred in the United States.
10. Analyze the process of financial investments, markets and equities (play the stock market game)
11. Evaluate the international trade market and explain how it affects our society.
12. Interpret various types of charts and graphs related to economics. Such as, the Business cycle, Production Possibilities Frontier, Supply and Demand curves ( and how they interact), and various types of stock
charts.

Course Requirements: The student will complete all assignments by the deadline that is designated by the teacher. Homework assignments should be written in the students agenda book. A notebook is mandatory.Your notebook
Should have a section designated for in-class notes, graded papers, quizzes, video notes/assignments, and tests. The notebook may be check at anytime without warning to insure that you are keeping up with the material covered in class. The notebook will count as a test grade.

Grading Procedure: Grades will be determined from students’ test, quizzes, and daily work. Grades will be figured using the following formula:
Test 25%
Quizzes 20%
Daily Work 30%          =                  100%
Mid-Term 10%
Final Exam 15%

Make-up Work: It is the students’ responsibility to make-up work within 5 days of his or her return to school from an excused absence. After a serious illness, exceptions can be made by consulting the teacher (or you need to talk to the 12th grade counselor)
If a student has more than 6 absences, he or she may lose credit for the semester. If credit is lost due to excessive absences and “NC” will appear on the permanent record. This course is required to graduate, so be in class, be on time and come prepared to work.

Grade Reports: At various times throughout the semester, indicated in your handbook, you will receive report cards. These grades should be carried home to parents. All grades are cumlative for the semester and do not stand alone for each grading period. All grades from the beginning of the semester are represented on each grade report and added together to calculate the grade.

Class Rules:
1. Come to class prepared (Book/notebook/pen or pencil) Do not ask to go to locker during class.
2. Do not talk or leave your desk without permission.
3. Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.
4. Follow directions!
5. No food or drinks in class.
Computers:
The computers in my class are for educational purposes only. You may pull up my webpage to practice any of the objectives that we are covering or will be covering. The computers will only be used to play educational games in class. If you finish an assignment for my class, and you want to type an assignment for another class, that will be permitted. But, Please ask first!!You can not send E-mails from my computers!!!

Discipline Plan:
The following procedure will be utilized if there is a student who is not doing their assignments or has been doing haphazardly and misbehaves:
1. Conference with the student.
2. Referral to counselor.
3. Deficiency notice.
4. Telephone conference with parent or parents.
5. Personal conference with the parent or parents.
6. Referral to an administator.
