Create PPPoE Connection in Windows XP
- From the Start
menu, choose Control Panel.
- Click the Network and Internet Connections icon.
- Click the Set up or change your Internet connection icon.
- Click the Setup button.
- Click the Next button.
- Select Connect to the Internet.
- Click the Next button.
- Select Set up my connection manually.
- Click the Next button.
- Select Connect using a broadband connection that requires a
user name and password.
- Click the Next button.
- In the ISP Name field, type a name to identify your PPPoE
connection (e.g. EarthLink).
- Click the Next button.
- In the User name field, type your email address.
- In the Password field, type your password.
- In the Confirm password field, type your password again.
- Uncheck the box next to Use this account name and password
when anyone connects to the Internet from this computer.
- Check the box next to Make this the default Internet
connectionif you want your computer to use this connection by
default.
- Uncheck the box next to Turn on Internet Connection Firewall
for this connection.
- Click the Next button.
- Check the box next to Add a shortcut to this connection to my
desktopto have a shortcut to this connection placed on your
desktop.
- Click the Finish button.
- click on the Properties button.
- Check that there is a tick next to Use Dialing Rules.
Type in 087 for the Area code. Type in 303030 for the Phone
number.
- Select the Options page tab. Check that there is a tick in
the box next to Prompt for name & password, certificate etc..
in the Dialing Options area.
- In the Redialing Options section check that the Redial
Attempts is set to greater than 1.
- The time between redial attempts should be at least 10 seconds.
- The Redial if line is Dropped option should be ticked.
- Select the Security page tab. Check that the Security
Options option is set to Typical (Recommended settings).
- Select the Networking tab and check that the Type of
dial up server I am calling is set to PPP:Windows 95/98/NT
4/2000, Internet.
- In the This connection uses the following items listbox
check that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is present.
- Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the Properties
button. Please note down any settings that are already in this area
before making any changes.
- Obtain an IP Address Automatically should be selected.
- In most cases the next option should be left on Obtain DNS
server address automatically.
- If you need to enter in the Xtra DNS settings then select the Use
the following DNS server addresses option.
- The Primary DNS is 202.27.184.3
- The Secondary DNS is 202.27.184.5
- Click OK to save any changes.
- Close everything (X's in
top right hand corner) and get back out to the desktop.
- Double click on the shortcut and click dial to connect.
