Press Release
For Immediate Release
March 28, 2002
782 Kg.
782 Kg., an exhibition which serves as the Senior Thesis exhibition for 35 University at Buffalo art students, will open on April 9, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the Center for the Arts. The kilogram, a common form of measurement used internationally but a vague mystery here, balances distinct artistic perspectives to form the combined weight of the artists' work. The exhibition continues from April 9 - April 26, 2002.

35 Artists x Senior Thesis + 6 Months = 782 Kg.
( To convert pounds to kilograms
multiply by 0.45, since there are
2.21 pounds in every kilogram. )

This conversion to 782 Kg. resulted from the thematic groupings of the exhibition: Alienation and the Gendered Body, Rupture and Family Memory, Sex as Tool, Transient Cultural Spheres, and Institutional Power. The media of the work ranges from the technique of Renaissance oil painting (complete with gold leaf inlay) to such contemporary media as digitalia (computer art), video projections, pop culture kitsch, photographs (silver gelatin prints), pseudo natural world wonders, and electro-soundscapes. These works will be installed in several locations in the Center for the Arts: the UB Art Gallery 2nd floor, Room 218, the Atrium and the Art Department Gallery on the Lower Level, the Student Lounge (located near Room B2) and Room B37. Fortunately, a map will be available at the opening reception.
The 35 artists in the exhibition are: Sarah Banasiak (Buffalo, NY), Vincent Buccitelli (Tonawanda, NY), Liza C.S. Camhi (Buffalo, NY), Kathryn Mary Cielewich (Buffalo, NY), Chang Chiao-Hao (Amherst, NY), Amy Farrell Chapman (Ithaca, NY), Christopher Corbett (Getzville, NY), Catherine Crouch (N.
