The History of Northern Ireland

There are few countries in the world with a history so contraversal like that of Northern Ireland. Much has been written on the violence and lawlessness but little is ever invested in the history before the madness descended. History is about interpretation and what sets a good historian from a biased one is the level of understanding they have for the events and their ability to hear the stories of both sides. In Northern Ireland there are two sides; two sides that are so incredibly different yet so similar but it is suspicion, mistrust and ultimately an unwillingness to trust that has created the dividing walls in this country. In many cases these walls are simply metophoric but in some places they are real. This website will seek to discuss how this country became entrenched in division but also how the will of its people has seen it come back together if somewhat gradually.
