House of Hell

© 2001 Elizabeth Marquez
(V1)
She's haunted by the night the police came
Took her dad to pay for his crime
He shot a man while he was drunk
Left her Mom without a dime
She lived in pain for many years
Remembered all her years of shame
When she slept on pallets for beds
Stayed warm by kerosene flame
(V2)
She knew she had to go back
To set things with her past right
She had some skeletons to clean
Out of her closet of her life
She drove to the old neighborhood
To throw stones at the house of hell
But when she got there she saw
Only the land was for sale
(C)
(Cause)
The city came and used a wrecking ball
To wipe her memories clean
They tore down her house of hell
Now the grass is growing green
(B)
She cried tears of joy and pain
As she sat on the empty lawn
There were no skeletons to hide
Because the closets were now gone
The house of hell no longer there
Now she can move on
(C)
(Cause)
The city came and used a wrecking ball
To wipe her memories clean
They tore down her house of hell
Now the grass is growing green
(T)
Standing on the same godforsaken ground
that now her cold tears fell
she could almost hear the angry echoes
of the ghosts from the house of hell
