Many people shy away from using certain symbols such as the 'cross' simply because many of them have been, and are still being used by false religions, witchcraft, and the like. But what most do not realise is that most, if not all, of these symbols originated with God, and it is the Devil who has supplanted them and perverted them for his own purpose - even as he has done with the Church of Rome founded by St. Peter! Satan has nothing that he could really call his, except for the LIES that he spins, and the confusion! He has perverted God's Creation - the sun, moon, stars, animals, men, objects, even houses, cars, televisions, money, and almost everything else you can think of - by getting people to bow down to worship it! If you were to visit any of the Orthodox Churches in Ethiopia, you would find that upon entering and leaving the building the priest will hold out a cross up to your face, expecting you to kiss it! I was a little uneasy about doing this when I first visited some of these Churches - kissing an object made of wood or metal seemed weird to me. But after doing the same thing when the guardian of the Ark raised the cross to my lips upon visiting him, I realised that there was absolutely no other way of one outwardly showing true reverence to Christ as their Lord and Saviour! Some people will interpret this as ‘worshipping,’ but in my opinion that is foolishness! If one kisses their loved ones, or a picture of their loved ones, such as their mother, husband, child, friend, or brethren, would this be worshipping them? Of course not! And so whilst some religions may fear the cross as an image, still even they themselves, as do all religions, use images and logos to explain their concepts. For example, if you were to drive by the JW's main Assembly Hall in Woollen Hills you'd see a giant icon of a Watchtower and lots of times they use the Watchtower as a logo on their Magazines. Or also Calvary Chapel uses the logo of a descending dove that is instantly recognised. Now do members of Calvary ‘worship’ or pray to this dove logo? Do JW's ‘worship’ or prayer to the Watchtower logo? ... The cross is also of meaning to Hopi and native Americans because it represents the scared directions of West, East, North and South. Still some people who claim that Christ was impaled on an upright pole would reason that the cross stems from Baal worship, and represents a penis. But would not the upright pole resemble a penis even more? And would such people who pray to such objects not pray to this as well? Either way, the focus should not be on praying to polls or crosses but rather the main point is why Jesus gave his life! However, having said all we have said about the cross, if it was proved to be an upright poll that Christ was sacrificed upon it would not alter that fact that this is the main focal point of our redemption - since this is where redemption began! What most do not realise, or they simply forget to realise, is that the crucifixion of Jesus Christ is a GREAT OFFENCE to Satan! Why? Because this was the most fatal blow that has ever been delivered to him since he was hurled out of heaven upon becoming God’s adversary! Satan hates anything at all to do with the crucifixion of our Lord and Saviour because this is where he was defeated and lost the keys of DEATH! And because the cross is the most powerful, and most painful, symbolical reminder of this defeat - which wounds Satan every time he is reminded of it - he desperately tries to BLOT IT OUT of the memory of all those minds that might be getting too close to the truth! Satan won’t bother everyone who believes in the cross as a Christian symbol because most of them are deceived. And so, as the saying goes, he’ll just let sleeping dogs lie. But he will certainly try to erase the memory of it - and any other such truths that help free man from sin - from those who are getting to close to the truth than he’d dare allow them to.'For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ [is] the power of God, and the wisdom of God.'(I Cor. 1:22-24). Satan knows that most people in the world identify the cross with Jesus Christ, and so if he could erase it he will have taken away the most important symbolical memory that people have of Christ's victory over his defeat! I wonder just how many people have come to Christ, or at least had their consciences smeared, just by looking upon a cross? I know that I did several times!‘And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.’(Num. 21:8). The cross, which is what the rod of Moses represents, is the most powerful symbolical reminder of the greatest and most important titanic struggle that has ever taken place between God and Satan since his struggle began! It is the simplest and most effective way, and perhaps the only way, that this event could ever be expressed without words! If Satan could do away with the cross, then he will have taken away the most powerful and comprehended symbol that represents Jesus Christ and Salvation for mankind. This can be the only reason why such people get all jumpy when it comes to the topic of the cross! Because Satan DOES NOT WANT TO BE REMINDED OF IT!
