Time is like drops in a bucket. We tend to give little consideration to just the small increments of time, and yet seconds turn into minutes, minutes turn into hours, hours turn into days, days turn into months, months turn into years. Sometimes when we focus too much on the big picture, we miss the little details; when we get too caught up in busyness, we may miss the little important moments in life.
We talk about time passing quickly—maybe it passes quickly because in our busyness, we don’t take enough time to focus on the seconds and minutes of our lives. When we take the time to slow down and mindfully notice everyone and everything around us, we’ll have a greater appreciation for life.
There was a song many years ago with the chorus of, “You got to stop and smell the roses…along the way.”* “Roses,” of course, was a figure of speech—we need to take quiet, still moments to refuel our souls, take time to look around and be aware of those around us, to prioritize the things that are important and lasting in life and the things that are not. When our earthly time nears the end, I hope our sentiment about life won’t be “I missed it.”
“Drops” of time over time make for a full “bucket” of life—what will your bucket be filled with?
