February - Very mild, very wet, very sunny and stormy. The mildest February since 1998 and the wettest since 1990. Brief anticyclonic spell between the 14th and the 17th. Stormy between the 22nd and the 26th.
March - Very mild and generally dry. There was no rain recorded up to the 8th and after the 21st but there was an unsettled spell of weather between the 9th and the 18th. Dull first three weeks but fine and very sunny spell between the 26th and the 30th. Each day recorded between nine and eleven hours of sunshine.
April - The sunniest April recorded since 1990 and the driest since 1984. Very mild, and rainless first three weeks, but unsettled after the 25th.
May - Slightly duller, wetter and milder than average. Dry first half. Unsettled and wet second half.
June - Average temperature and sunshine totals but drier than average. Lowest maximum temperature in June since 1991. Unsettled first half and dry second half.
July - Cool, dull and very wet with severe thunderstorms in the closing days. Wettest July since 1980 but no rain fell between the 12th and 18th and 21st and 29th.
August - Very wet and stormy first two days and unsettled up to the 10th but hardly any rain fell after the 11th. Below normal sunshine totals, but warmer than average.
September - Very dry apart from a wet and unsettled spell between the 6th and 9th. No rain fell for the final 20 days. Warm with average sunshine totals.
October - Warm and sunny first five days. No rain until the 11th then very wet, stormy and unsettled. Average sunshine and temperature.
November - Mild, wet and very dull.
December - Dull and wet with average temperature.
The Lowest day-time temperature was 29F on 2nd January.
The Highest Night-time Minima was 65F on 30th July.
The Lowest Night-time minima was 22F on 2nd January.
The sunniest day of 2002 was 14th July when 14.2 hours of sunshine was recorded.
The sunniest spell was between July 10th and July 16th which gave an average of 10.8 hours sunshine a day. The second sunniest spell was between March 26th and March 30th which yielded 10.3 hours of sunshine a day. The third sunniest spell of the year was between April 3rd and April 8th was gave an average of 9.9 hours of sunshine a day.
The cloudiest spell in 2002 was between January 7th and January 10th, and November 27th and November 30th, when no sunshine at all was recorded. Only 1.3 hours of sunshine was recorded between January 5th and January 11th. Only two hours of sunshine was recorded between January 27th and February 2nd.
July 31st was the wettest day of 2002 with 1.94 inches of rain, or 49 millimetres. August 2nd was the second wettest day of the year with 1.06 inches of rain or 27 millimetres. The third wettest day of the year was November 16th, with 0.90 inches of rain or 22.9 millimetres. The fourth wettest day of 2002 was October 15th, with 0.88 inches of rain or 22.3 millimetres.
The driest month of 2002 was April, then March followed by September.
