The 5th saw the highest temperature recorded all month but the weather was at its most disturbed between the 7th and 16th with depressions close by most of the time. The 8th was a very wet day. The air pressure fell to 968MB on the 14th, a very low value. Another extremely wet day occurred on the 16th when almost 23mm of rain fell with a biting cold North-Westerly wind, from 3am until 10.30pm.
A quieter interlude occurred for the next three days and after the 21st, the weather was comparatively quiet and mild, if remaining very dull. Only 4.8 hours of sunshine was recorded in the final 11 days of the month. Thick fog occurred on the evening of the 29th. Further rain advanced from the West on the 30th, bringing another wet day.
November 2002 was the reverse of October 2002 with weather conditions. Up to the 17th it was very disturbed and unsettled. Then up to the 29th it was more settled. Sunshine totals were very low and it was the dullest November since that of 1994, which was the mildest of the 20th Century. November 2002 was marginally duller than that of 1997 - a similar kind of month, as that November was also mild, wet and dull. Rainfall was above average but it was not as wet as 2000.
The month was milder than average, though day-time temperatures were only slightly warmer than average. Night-time temperatures, aided and abetted by the overcast conditions for much of the month (21 sunless days were recorded), were almost 2C warmer than average. There was no frost or snow recorded at any time during the month.
