The 2nd was also fine and warm, with sunny spells but a cold front displaced the brief reign of the high pressure, bringing much cooler weather for the Golden Jubilee day on the 3rd, which was cool in the daytime but fine and sunny in the evening, as was the 4th throughout. Another depression brought unsettled weather until the 10th. The 5th was the coldest day of the month. The 6th and 7th were warmer but the 9th was another cool day.
The 11th and 12th were both fine and sunny, but a severe rainstorm broke at 6.40pm on the 14th, giving 8 millimetres of rain in 50 minutes. Coincidentally, a severe rainstorm broke on that date in 1969, causing terrible flooding. The 15th saw fine and sunny periods by day but rain fell that night. An anti-cyclone on the 16th brought dry and settled weather for the first time in the month. No rain fell at all during the next 11 days, and there was a short fine spell between the 17th and 20th. The 23rd and 24th were both sunny, as were the 27th and 28th. A front brought showers on the morning on the 28th, and the 30th was a cool, dull day with showers.
Daytime temperatures were below average by 1C but night-time temperatures were above average. This made June 2002 exactly average in day-time temperature. Like June last year, it was an average month in most respects. Sunshine was exactly average for the time of the year, but rainfall, whilst not extremely dry, was below average. The month, like May, can be categorised into two months. Unsettled in the first half and dry in the second, whereas with May it was the opposite. There were no late heatwaves unlike June 2001 though, but there were also no thunderstorms recorded at all at any time during the month.
