April 1998 was the second wettest April of the 20th Century and the wettest since 1920. It was a very thundery month, with five thunderstorms recorded, along with hail and lightning.

The worst snowfall of the year so far was recorded on Tuesday 14th April with six inches. It was worse than anything all winter and the worst snowfall since New Year's Eve 1996.

April 1998 was the coldest April since that of 1989 though overall temperatures were around average. It was cold from the 9th to the 15th and quite warm from the 22nd to the 29th.
