Becoming Sojourner: Journey to Freedom Feb 20th 2021 6pm. (subject to change)

Our Black History Month production will be Journey to Freedom, Part One of Becoming Sojourner, the original musical I wrote honoring the exceptional life of Sojourner Truth. Part One is the story of her family - how the slave girl born Isabella got freedom for herself and two of her children.

Women's History Month production of: Becoming Sojourner.

Sojourner and her two youngest are free. Her two eldest daughters remain behind in slavery. Sojourner has joined the crusade to stop other families from being ruined by slavery, her later political activism includes her fight for suffrage and the Notable Figures she interacted with, including Abraham Lincoln & William Lloyd Garrison

Our first production, July 2020

Greg, a MAGA Republican , third generation on the police force, has his normal workday disrupted when his partner doesn't show up. His replacement, a POC female, informs him that his friend was implicated overnight in an incident resulting in the death of an unarmed black man. By daybreak a protest has formed right outside their office.

Part 2- Bill's story

Welcome to: Part 2- Bill's story: Sat Sep 5, 6:00pm

Professor John H. Barris came to this country as a refugee, fleeing Rwandan genocide. He met his death as another unarmed black man killed by a police officer. Part 1 saw the affect this death had on the community- the citizens overwhelmed at the lack of justice experienced by people of color./p>

In part 2, you will meet the officer responsible, Bill, the friend, a man honored and respected in his community- as well as Bill, the monster, who stomped an innocent unarmed man to death in broad daylight. What was going through his mind?

Summary:

Cyrus, sitting in jail for attempted murder, is confronted with the Angel of the Lord. He learns God has chosen him, despite his past, but Cyrus is not sure why, or what he is supposed to do. Suddenly led by a God he had not known, he is confronted with the concept of forgiveness, blind faith and trust. In the second Act, he meets Helen, who has lost everything that made life worth living- her son, her husband, her job, her faith, her hope in the future.

When a beautiful future looms in the horizon, the Destroyer enters, throwing roadblocks in their path and ripping away the beautiful future Helen and Cyrus had hoped to build.

Season Showtime celebrates that wondrous time in our recent past when holidays were celebrated in large groups without masks, and a night at the theater was a magical event.

synopsis

Recently widowed, Simon struggles to cope with becoming a single parent to his lively daughter Holly. Mama's last gift to Holly was a season subscription to the ballet. There, they encounter Carmen, an usher at the theater who brightens both of their lives.
